    You hit the nail on the head. The people that are against gyros are the ones usually afraid to fly whenever there’s a decent bit of wind

      I've never been a fan of any type of gyro. As I fly 3d, & I've seen for myself they limit expo, throws, & sensitivity. (1st discovered it on my eflite extra 300 bnf. Wouldn't hover to save its life! Put a non-gyro AR620 in, hover🤷‍♂️).
      Anyone new, limited budgets, or nervous to the point of desiring a gyro, more power to em.
      All that aside, I've flown foam birds in winds, gusty winds, up to 35mph successfully. (Destroyed a few too. No guts, no gl🤪ry🤷‍♂️)
      BUT, my 1 cent opinion.
      (& opinions are like 🫏🕳🕳. Everyone's got 1. But this is all mine)

      If you‘re on a skill level to not need a gyro anymore, fair enough - still, it can be a life saver, when lost orientation of the plane and that (for me) is reason enough to rectify it‘s presence. You can just put it on a 3 pos switch and add the off position. I don‘t see the point in swapping the receiver on a BNF to get rid of the gyro. 😊 on a PNP, you can still decide of course, if this ‚insurance‘ is worth the add‘l 30$.

      I couldn't agree more! There's been odd times & happenings I wish I had 1! Gnats, bees, loss of orientation (🤪), etc.
      I, like so many more I fly with 'flew nitro & wood 20 yrs ago'. I hear that often. Seems the older dudes (me, 59. Others are upwards of 65), are definitely die hard 'no'. Most everything I buy r pnp. Bestest buddy, if I get anything with a rx, he gets the rx outta it. Just as long as he's NOT making $$ on my kindness.

    ..... and those that bag gyro's the most haven't tried one. By myself I learnt to fly with a 400mm p51 mustang with 3 gyro modes .......I really struggle to keep my mouth shut when I hear the negative comments......so it's another tool in the toolbox, f-off . Great video Lads and love from New Zealand 🙃😉😎

    RTH modes usually require you to be 100 yards out or so before it will activate

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  9 месяцев назад +1

      I had about 5 different tests where it was at about the extent of my ability to maintain orientation. Any further and I wouldn't have trusted my ability to recover. So if that is in fact the case with this setup, I would consider that a failure as my flight skills are far beyond those of a beginner for whom this plane is intended.
      Also, this isn't the traditional BF/iNav FC, so while there may be some merit in your guess, there was no mention of that type of limit in the book.

    Thank's for this Video , I like Gyros as "live saver " for windy days .

  • @Legalmachinist
    @Legalmachinist 9 месяцев назад +1

    From the description I interpret the RTH function to only operate when the plane has exceeded the fence limit (eg when you have likely lost orientation!).

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  9 месяцев назад

      From the book:
      "8. Return to home function:
      Triggered using the GPS button on the top left hand corner of the transmitter, the aircraft will level out and return to home whenever this button is pushed- regardless of which flight mode the aircraft is operating under. To cancel, simply move any of the sticks"
      Point 10 says after 120m the model will initiate RTH automatcially.

    • @Legalmachinist
      @Legalmachinist 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@RCVideoReviews without wishing to belabor the point - From the ad description from the link: “Flight perimeter fence function: if the aircraft is in excess of 120m away from the pilot, the aircraft will return to home automatically, with the pilot having the option of taking over the controls at any time. Once over the home point, the aircraft will circle at a 25m altitude at roughly 40km/h.”

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  8 месяцев назад

      Right, but that doesn't stop the pilot from invoking RTH at any time. This is the way just about all RTH work. There are FCs like iNav that let you specify a minimum distance from home. This FC does not. This doesn't even address the fact I invoked RTH from a distance far enough that any farther and I would have lost orientation on the plane.
      If you get it to work, be sure to come back and explain it.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  8 месяцев назад

      RTH is not solely an automated function as described by the manual. Yes, it can be invoked automatically per the fence, but that is not the only way RTH is invoked.

    Nice demo..i have a couple of dozen planes i fly that are deltas and planes 1100 mm and much less using no gyros.i also have purchased a few different rtf micros with stabilization and they are amazing to fly even in wind like you have here...lots of fun and worry free...the key is to set them up without wind though..also keep them closer in windy conditions...that plane having gps is pretty cool and if plane got to far to see would save it from being crashed or lost which is something i never had...lost ,crashed and repaired a lot of planes over the years...

    • @RCVideoReviews

      Definitely a good note to setup without wind.

    I don't use gyros because I don't need them yet. But the gyros have a place a time and a use case. For newer pilots just learning, It can be useful if you lose orientation, if your eyesight is not as good as it was before, if you get dizzy. If you get sick, if the wind all of a sudden picks app to a point that you're uncontrollable, and I can keep going. with a flip of a switch is the difference between taking your plane home in one piece Or order a new one.😁

    I fly in high winds all the time. Only a few of us frequent the field I go to will. I've been flying with no gyro lately but I've done both. I look at it as skill training. Risky coming down in a cross but super fun.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  9 месяцев назад

      I agree. I can fly in that stuff without a gyro, and it is good stick training to be sure.

    Some gyros won’t initialize right away if the wind is rocking them. I don’t know what the problem was with RTH.

    you're the second review I watched on this plane and the other one the GPS didn't work either. A lot of people might lose their planes relaying on the GPS

  • @jerryc1491

    May have to calibrate the GPS?

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  9 месяцев назад

      On the second flight I followed the exact process in the book. The only thing I saw about recalibration was that when it picks up a location for the first time, it may take 40s, but subsequent locks take about 10s. I didn't see any other reference to GPS variability. Do you know of any process on this unit?

    I want full control of my plane. Don't need a babysitter. I also prefer windy days. To each their own.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  6 месяцев назад +1

      In stabilize mode, you still have full control of your plane. I liken stabs to trim--we use trim in full size planes to ease the pilot's burden. Little spin of the wheel and it let's us focus on flying the plane rather than keeping a certain pressure on the stick to maintain altitude or heading.
      But your money, your hobby--do your thing. I'm happy to flick a stabilizer on when I'm flying small planes on windy days. Perfectly acceptable.

    I’ve had this exact plane for awhile now and it is a good flyer, but the gps is total garbage. Completely a gimmick! It should work due to its cost. However It will fly away when you are needing it. Trust me! It will definitely not come back. It just bobs back and forth till you can not see it any more. I contacted Fms on this and they just sent me round and round wanting me to prove it. Well you have the same issue… so I just fly it as a park flyer and forget the gps junk. Fms defiantly did not stand behind it! Hopefully this helps others before buying. Also the front wheel is extremely brittle. One Little Rock or bump and it breaks. Very, very brittle front gear.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  9 месяцев назад

      Yeah, I'll talk about this in the next PilotJam. I think the PnP option would be a better choice for this reason.

    • @anonymousasusual9413
      @anonymousasusual9413 9 месяцев назад

      Agreed, it’s $200 thou, not exactly cheep for a plane this size. I bought it for my son. So I’m paying for the gps safety, that doesn’t work and a cheep front gear that breaks almost every landing. Not good for a beginner. At that price you’re not getting much. The remote is pretty cheep as well. At that price just for a plane that size, there are far better offers out. This isn’t a good one. Fms,to me when I reached out to them, seems to try and sweep it under the rug. Unfortunately

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  9 месяцев назад

      PnP is $139. Full RTF with radio, battery, charger, receiver, gyro at $199 seems reasonable to me. $10 for battery, $15 for charger, $20 for gyro, $20 for receiver. It's not unreasonable. If you don't need all of that don't get the RTF.
      I had lots of landings in rough wind and the gear did fine. When it comes to gear on beginners planes, it's better for something easy to replace and cheap to break rather than transmitting crash energy to the fuse.
