The 1989 NFL draft is famous for having four of the first five players selected - quarterback Troy Aikman, running back Barry Sanders, linebacker Derrick Thomas, and cornerback Deion Sanders - all being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The last top-five pick, Tony Mandarich, was considered a draft bust.

Been looking forward to watching this legendary draft fir the longest
So cool watching older drafts
Crazy hearing them cheer the Commish
Pete Rozelle stayed out of the way and let things play out. He was a good leader for the NFL.
It's also weird not seeing the players hug the commish.
This is great stuff.
That kid Barry sanders seems legit
Eh. Sounds like a bust. Seems just like a college player
I don’t think he’s gonna pan out 😊
He kinda seems like he'd play a full career...right?
@@seppreoghost174 Only 5-8, he's too small. :)
Incredible top 5.
4 hall of famers.
Joe T saying Aikman shouldn;t have been the pick haha.
Theismann doesn’t have a good record on Top 10 picks...he thought Lawrence Phillips was a great pick by St Louis at #6 in 96
I know Im asking randomly but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account..?
I stupidly lost my login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Duncan Julio instablaster =)
@Phoenix James Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now.
Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Phoenix James it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much you really help me out :D
wow Louis Oliver and Andre Rison that's brutal lol
Oliver was a decent player for Miami and Rison had a solid career
How the fuccin they got 37 videos of old draft not only that they got full recording coverage commercials and all
Anyone know if Troy made the team?
he did make the team
Think he got cut
Total bust...🧐🙈
Horrible pick ⛏️.. 💍💍💍
Yeah Joe, Troy was the wrong pick for the Cowboys
If Aikman played in the current rules he would have Rodgers type numbers, one the most accurate passers of the Super Bowl era
Aikman is one the best quarterbacks in NFL history. He was such a great pick for the Cowboys to anchor The 1990s Cowboys.
and the rest is history
Pete was off with his timing, McMahon did not got to San Diego til August and didn’t get much for him.
Uh...uh....uh....come on man! Maybe it's my time as a broadcasting student or short time as a broadcaster, but that was tough to hear.
Yeah I thought it was odd as well. Apparently he was having issues with alcoholism at this point and died of liver failure two years later.
@@davidwebb3407 He was only 47 when he passed and 45 at the time of this, so you get a sense of how much his drinking was messing him up.
The new era of the nfl begins primetime cowboys barry sanders detroit
I would say the Cowboys picking Troy Aikman worked out ok. Despite the critics like Joe Theisman. Funny watching the Jimmy Johnson interview with Jerra Jones hovering behind Jimmy salivating to speak on the mic.
Aikman was un unknown quantity back then.
Cowboys should have drafted Barry Sanders
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I think maybe the Packers should have drafted Barry Sanders. Drafting Aikman is directly proportion to 3 Super Bowl Rings and QB to win the most games in a single decade. Barry Sanders is remembered as a step behind The Great: EMMITT SMITH.
Jim McMahon for 2 top picks???? Are you for Real?
It sounds crazy really given Jim McMahon's injury history. But the Chargers were in desperation due to not having a QB in place after Dan Fouts retirement. Of course in a NFL throwback video from 1985 a scout from San Diego was very high on WVU QB Jeff Hostetler (who would QB NY in a Super Bowl win in 1990). He saw him replacing Fouts and its obvious the Chargers never prepared for life after Fouts.
And the Chargers drafted Burt Grossman what did he do smh the Bolts has had so many draft bus.
People used to give away draft picks like cheap hookers. Herschel and Eric Dickinson were traded for a truckload of picks. Imagine trading a truckload of picks for a RB today?
@@KTF0 Back in the 1970s a Green Bay Packers coach handed one team 2 to 3 1st rd picks. I believe it was for John Hadl . And that guy was like 32 or 33 when they did that deal lol
Hearing them talk like the Aikman pick was a questionable pick is hilarious
In hindsight it is - Aikman turned out to a terrific quarterback and leader for the Cowboys.
Seeing them world trade centers is absolutely crazy stick out in the skyline the first 5 picks had a chance of all hall of famers but green bay busted lmfao
Here's to Barry Sanders' wasted career.
Did they even televise The full draft back then, can anyone tell me?
They did, but rounds 4 - 7 went by on a scroll while talking heads rehashed round 1.
Also in the 80’s I don’t remember what year they changed it, but it was during the week in the morning. I remember when my parents got cable, and we had espn for the first time, I skipped school to watch the draft.
That’s the other thing not everybody had cable at this time. Yes it was televised but having espn was a huge luxury
I don't remember tv being this bad
What the fuck do you mean it’s perfect
I do. Just bang your phone real hard with a closed fist, the picture will get clearer if you bang it hard enough
It's not TV. Its a VCR recording and it looks pretty good.
