They are incomparable World and English Wonder! And they are still performing...

they are just breathtaking amazingly great skaters!! I have honestly never seen better ice skaters than them. They share such an unbelievable chemistry on and of the ice. Just look at Chris gazing at Jayne before they go onto the ice. That is such a symbol of their amazing connection and bond and the trust they have in each other. They are just incredible. 100% in sync with each other.
Bloody 💯 % agree.. one of my fave dances from them., I really liked one of their compulsories where they cut so deep on the corner with a knee bend,, I think it was a waltz but can’t be certain, I actually thought their skates were going to slip from Underneath them! Tess and Scott are incredible too but in an entirely different way., Torvill and Dean just changed ice skate ⛸ dancing !
@@marikafasola8771 Yeah! I pretty much know that., but dancing has changed and it’s pretty much acrobatics on ice now.. it’s v difficult to judge across 40 yrs ! It’s like comparing apples and oranges but it’s all we’ve got!

It's pretty rare in any pairs team for the man to be the one that catches your eye the most. He's usually acting more as a frame for the woman. But I always found the way Christopher moved to be so captivating. His lines were just as clean as Jayne's, if not even cleaner. He was a perfectionist and it really showed on the ice. Very powerful. Legend!
+CandyisAwesome86 You are absolutely right, Christopher is famous for his technique and presence. But, imho, exactly in this dance the way Jayne's looking at her partner is the most important moment. Bringing in an unspeakble tensity. The way he moves is fantastic, but her eyes - just here - are the strongest factor.

I didn't realise this was on RUclips, it's one of my all time favourite dances but haven't seen it since that night and thought it would remain forever a memory to watch in my mind. So amazing to see it again on screen. It is even better than I remember.

Torvill & Dean are a phenomenon, like a shooting comet, never to be repeated, not in this lifetime I remember watching them in their first Olympics, they took the world by storm and captured eveyone's imagination. Jayne is a Goddess on the ice and Chris is a Knight, like Lancelot ravishing us with his eloquent strength...and takes my breath away. Sigh..🔥
They came in 5th in their first Olympics in 1980 in Lake Placid, NY. That was an amazing feat for two people who had to work full time jobs, 8 hrs a day, six days a week. They barely had enough time to devote to Ice Dancing. They quit their jobs after the 1980 Olympics and luckily got a grant from the city of Nottingham that enabled them to devote full time to Ice Dancing. They won every National, European and World Championship after that, then the Gold Medal in the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo with Bolero. You are so right about Chris as Jayne's Knight in Shining Armor. She is the Queen of his heart. He has put her on a pedestal. He is so unbelievably handsome and does take one's breath away! Yes indeed! You are so right.

They went on to win the World Championships a month later with the same routines.

I think there was an agenda among the judges to move on from them, especially as they turned pro after the 1984 world championships. It’s preposterous that after 10 years as professionals they weren’t considered good enough to beat the best amateurs in the world.
When I think about these two, what I always wonder about is whether they can really ever comprehend how much they have contributed to human enjoyment, human aspirations, to the human condition in general, and appreciate the size of the audience that has and will continue to benefit from these two for a very long time to come. And, whatever else youtube does, the fact that youtube can make this available to us so easily is also a thing that I find amazing. In an interview, Betty Callaway, their onetime coach, once said something like "Of course I'm proud of them as skaters -- but I'm more proud of them as people." That comes through to me, whenever I watch them, and it is no small part of what I enjoy.

An absolute dream to watch. I'm no Skater, but I have watched the sport for the last 50 years and know class when I see it. In my opinion--as was often the case in ALL international sports--POLITICS raised it's ugly head here. The division caused by the usual -East--West divide was still present here , but even just old fashioned NATIONALISM prevails.
Incredibly sensual and perfectly danced. Don't care what the judges thought. We ALL thought they won because they DID!☆☆☆☆☆

An absolute dream to watch. I'm no Skater, but I have watched the sport for the last 50 years and know class when I see it. In my opinion--as was often the case in ALL international sports--POLITICS raised it's ugly head here. The division caused by the usual -East--West divide was still present here , but even just old fashioned NATIONALISM prevails.
