I just got this kit installed on my 65 mph KMX eTrike: A-FREAKING-MAZING... Thanks Adam. Its night and day difference compared to my other non-suspended KMX eTrike.. These videos don't do justice to how effective this suspension really is: If you have a KMX trike I strongly recommend you get this installed... it is a huge upgrade in ride comfort; and specially so at any speeds higher than 8 mph. Shipping was lightning fast: Th from Canada, got here to Wisconsin on Sat morning. Won't be missing those road expansion joints, thunk... thunk... thunk... Also, steering got a lot better, it is a tad harder to move the wheels at a dead stop, but these act as a steering damper at higher speed so the trike feels a lot more precise at 30+ mph. Highly recommended!!
Yea..! I could have at one time, and you are correct it would have been fairly easy.. Unfortunately during the summer of 2010 while away my home was robbed and one things they had gotten was a 378 lb. Combination milling and lath tool which was carried away in broad day light...! And none of my neighbors seen a thing, but heaven forbid I should put the trash to early for morning collection the night previous I would hear all kinds of remarks from the management office about it...! People here are very selective on what they see and what they don't...! But to say the least it would have been very easily done on it and with not much effort either...!
Oh yea...! I got the house wired for sound now, You can't step a foot on the land I lease with out setting off a camera...! But I'm happy with the way my recumbent handles now, and I was just checking out that suspension, and who wouldn't want to make improvements to their ride... But thanks any how...
Well I got a custom Catrike Fat Cat Quad custom build just about a year ago or maybe more and I am really happy with it, as it for fills my every expectation... It's a great ride and I use it as my main form of transportation for where ever I go.. It runs on 26" in. X 4.8 in. Vee Rubber Speedster tires and brakes on disc brakes which makes for a flawless ride... I was just thinking out loud when I posted the statement on the suspension, as it would be nice to add some but not a real expectation at all, and I could live without them as it is not a big expectation when you are riding on 26" x 4.8" tires, and even better on 4 wheels as I have...!
You would think they ride slower, but at 36 psi on 4 wheels distributing the weight on it very equally, I have no problem at trekking along at like 19 to 26 mph depending on the road..!
Looks awesome! But the steering pivot is wayyyyy inboard of the wheel now... 😨 Increasing the scrub radius by that much will eat tires, cause significant brake steer and be harder to maneuver at low speed. I suppose that's a price some are willing to pay to retrofit something that was not designed for front suspension. Still, clever design. I applaud you for making the KMX more go-kart worthy! I'd love to see your "clean sheet" full suspension recumbent trike! For now, balloon/fat tires will do for me, but I will be making a double a-arm full suspension electric trike in my future. 👍
Agreed, this is indeed a compromise. For best results you should ALWAYS buy a full suspension trike properly designed from the start. The king pin angle stay the same, so as long as your toe-in/out is properly adjust, the tires will last. Yes, it is a bit harder to maneuver at low speed, but barely. This does increase the brake steering though. I compensate this by using a dual-pull front brake lever. This way the trike stop perfectly straight. Thanks for the comments!
do you have a video of it on the sidewalk? How does it cope with the little ditches on the sidewalk? Thanks! Would you recommend rear suspension as well for sidewalk riding? Thanks!
Sidewalk here are too narrow for my trike, but without suspension, I felt every little crack on the road... Personally, I would never come back to an bike without full suspension.
I do wonder if there can be such a mod to give the KMX a rear suspension? I'm sure it involves cutting the frame in two but a full suspension would be awesome.
sir which suspension is that can you give me its details... because we are in a SAE(society of automotive engineering) competition and according to me it is useful for us
You can find all the details here: endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=78893 It is also possible to purchase it from Ebay or following the instruction in the link above.
Thanks, Yes, right now I am selling a kit on Ebay ( search for "KMX trike suspension" ) or thru Endless-sphere.com ( in the forum [Items for Sale - New])
Thanks :) The KMX is the entry level trike, so they don't include any suspension to keep the price affordable. This being said, you can see my rear suspension prototype in action on this 360 degree video : ruclips.net/video/d1a2nwHTHG4/видео.html I will make a 2D regular video soon.
It's only a matter of local Law. Some country or states restrict power under 250W while other have no limits. Same thing with top speed ( usually restricted to 20 mph). Here, a 4 wheel bicycle is automatically considered moped, where 3 wheels an under can qualify as a bicycle. Most of the time, pedals must be functional to qualify as a bicycle.
Don't get me wrong, I like the suspension but use my KMX Cobra for pedaling only, so keeping the weight down is important. If you're into adding electric motors- then go for it :-)
I agree, but I think you would like them; and thats regardless of motor or not. I also ride my trike unpowered a lot of timesl; @ 8-12 mph easy pedaling, you can't tell the difference in effort, and this is pedaling a 100 lbs trike, at 4-5 mph up a 15% grade hill... now, the difference in ride is night and day; plus it makes the trike a lot more stable at higher speeds (dowhill?) so its not as "twitchy" as it might be without the suspension, or well, at least it did for me; and although I am used to ride my trike at 50+ mph without any suspension nor steering dampers this was a welcome improvement.
$1500 investment to realize you are 6" too wide to fit though a doorway. That would be very disappointing to put this on and not be able to go for a ride. :(
Front suspension is now available from : kmxsuspension.ca
looks great, glad you invented it!; i just bought me a KMX trike and will be saving up my money for this sweet mod!

I am thinking about getting a KMX trike. What mods have you done to make it 65mph?
People from all over the world have been waiting and wondering for someone to come up with something like that.. your product is AWESOME!!!!!
=]
+ElectricBike (Bruno) Thanks =)
lol
I want to adopt something like this to my trike. it looks epic and compact
How I wish I had suspension like that on my Catrike Villager Custom Quad...! That is awesome to say the least..

Very impressive suspension system

I should have a prototype of the rear suspension ready for the 1 st quarter 2017

Are there any builds for other trikes on the burner?
Very nice! Would you consider making this? I am build an electric KMX trike and this would be something worth consdering! Thanks.

+adam roy Very nice dude!! I'll probably pick one up once I get my trike put together... :) BTW, do you live near Wisconsin?
I am in Montreal, Canada.
+adam roy dang, that's a little far away, still dude, superb job.
How have you found the suspension to hold up now through the years? -Fellow WI cyclist.
This is AMAZING. But, what about rear suspension? Locally they don't have a single model that has it.
Thanks :)

Need a little air in that front tire, it we have a lot less resistance.
beau boulot !
At what point does it become a moped? A motorcycle?

It's clever but the wheel is so far outboard from the actual steering point.

Nice! but two of them must weigh a ton! I cycle with my Kmx Cobra
Thanks, They are designed to be robust even on an electric KMX trike. 1,4kg each side for a total of 2,8kg
@Al Mend: Not that heavy when considering they are built like a tank... but the ride difference is night and day...

The KMX front suspension kit is 795 us$ plus shipping from my website.
Bad trikes and really noisy although the suspension looks good and really working
