- Ian Allison whips out the Hofner bass to show us his philosophy on finding the right sound for “i’ll always be the one who makes you cry” in the recording studio.
As far as I'm aware, Paul played all the Beatles stuff with a pick. My favorite bassist and my inspiration (though I usually play with my fingers).
Awesome bass! I love the Höfner's narrow neck and low action. Absurdly easy and more fun to play than most people realize.
I've always played with a pick, as did Paul.

nice! ...but paul played a Rick 4001 on Abbey Road ;)basically, he played a rick on everything from revolver onward , just a little bit of jazz bass on the white album and the hofner on let it be (album)
Quite right.
Recently I heard the isolated bass track for Dear Prudence and was shocked to hear the unmistable sound of a Jazz Bass! The 4001 did get the most use post-
'66 and had the most beautiful tone to my ears.
I will deliberately use a inappropriate bass live just to mix it up , hofner cavern bass on Metallica is a favourite option, and to be fair it kick ass
The electric bass that Clarence Leo Fender created which was called the Fender electric bass for some Reason is now called the bass guitar and it confuses people. The electric guitar has a acoustic version, the electric Piano has a acoustic version, the electric drum has a acoustic version, and so on, but why is it when we get to the electric bass, they refer to it as bass guitar? I know for a fact that if someone puts sheet music in front of me, I'll be reading from the bass clef, same as the upright acoustic bass, so I don't consider myself a bass guitarist, but an electric bass player

The sound is the same, the shape is just personal preference. I like the classic single-cutaway shape of this club- to my eyes it's just gorgeous.

The sound is not the same. The violin-style is an actual hollow body, whilst the Club has a piece of spruce under the pickups and bridge - so, it is a semi-hollow, and that affects the balance of frequencies and harmonics, and sustain.
