Dave is really good at clarifying things that Jocko is saying or putting a different perspective on those things. They really complete each other very well.
Thank-you Jocko and echo and everyone who's been on the podcast. You got me in the mindset to get out of a horrible 4 year relationship and I'm now taking extreme ownership. Reading everyday working out everyday and running. My problems were put into perspective for sure from this podcast.
The same thing im thinking just listening to jacko im ready to finish my relationship with my wife of 10 yrs and take ownership of my life ... Good luck brother
@@alvarohernandez2131 ... My man, instead of doing that (which I just did😔), consider looking at yourself and ask yourself why has my relationship become what it is? This is the very basics of complete ownership. I'll give you an example. She calls you "selfish" (as my ex did), or whatever your marriage problems are, just pick one. Now take that problem and dissect it. Find out, or try to discover, what role you played in the conflict and how can you fix it. This is the process Jocko is teaching. In all facets of our lives, we run into problems or we create problems, and leadership is the resolution of those problems without ego and without damaging relationships. Try to really listen to want Jocko is saying. I wish I had. All of our relationships are made better by listening to other person's perspectives and learning from them where we might be causing friction and can reshape things. The way I look at education and training with regards to learning are: Education is learning how to do the job. Training is learning how You do the job. Education is about the external, the enemy, intelligence, about tactics, strategy, and protocols. Training is about the internal, yes it's about how to achieve the results but also how you/your team perform under the pressures and recognising your weaknesses to address, get better and build confidence to smash.
Jocko, i think a great guest for the show could be a Ex-UKSF operator SAS/SBS Ant Middleton, Jason Fox, Ollie Ollerton just a few names. Or even just maybe try and talk about any Ops you did with other Special Forces. Keep up the hard work, love the show.
Thank you jocko you have a great pod cast and bring on the best guest thank you and your guest god bless America and the men and women on our front lines
As a former Marine, I was always impressed with how clearly organized and coordinated MARADMINS were. Were they always perfect? No, of course not. But as Jocko pointed out, they are clear enough that anyone -- from a General to a PFC -- can read and understand the message and its intent.
I’ve been saying this for years... he worked under Jocko too. The fact that they both live in San Diego and know each other surprises me that he hasn’t been on yet.
The whole American involvement in Vietnam helps proves the point that even if you have the most advanced military that if your leadership and dont understand people, in our case our political leadership lead us to lose in Vietnam. North Vietnam was paying attention to how the American public felt and they committed to what they had to do to win.
I came across this in one of my self-assessments that I did in the past and thought it was a good summary (from CliftonStrengths finder); Learner - you love to learn; you will always be drawn to the process of learning; more than the content or the result, you are energized by the journey from ignorance to competence; your excitement leads you to engage in learning experiences, to thrive in dynamic work environments with short project assignments and are expected to learn a lot about a subject matter in a short time and move on to the next one; the outcome of the learning is less significant than the "getting there"
It is a good start but has some critical flaws in defining self-directed learning that will need to be addressed. If you can't trust your Marines to direct their own education, how will you be able to trust the with mission command?
Training for known factors; education for unknown. Teaching is the education, training is the execution till the act becomes ingrained If you know there are going to be potential unknown factors then that is a known eventuality, and there for you can train in preparation of meeting said unknown factors. Which, I assume, one of the first things you'd do when faced with an unknown factor would be to gather as much intel as you can about the situation, or rather, educate yourself on the matter. One of the best ways of doing that is to detach, so you practice detaching, you train it so that it becomes the a natural response ect ect ect hey, I'm learning something! ✌

I’m going to use this doctrine for teaching adult education courses as an introduction. This is excellent for anyone who needs a ‘why’.
The more senses we involve in our learning, education and training, the deeper and more sure the learning is in our core.
The way I look at education and training with regards to learning are:
Education is learning how to do the job.
