Having painted, and repainted a few kitchens, I've found that sanding, priming, sanding the primer smooth and then painting is the best way to get a smooth even paint application. black paint will probably be more forgiving than other colors, though. Good luck!

I like watching your channel. Being someone who's currently remodeling our house, I like seeing what everyone's style. I love the wood and metal that you have on the bookshelf & the bar stools. I like how you aren't "ready for Christmas " yet. We started q remodel Monday, so my house is in shambles right now, I'm delayed on decorating too. Living room walls were painted/ceiling painted, furniture arriving Sunday, got a new entertainment/fireplace stand tonight. Quarter round going down tomorrow.... So mich, and it's driving me crazy. I'm ready to steam my floors, get things together, and decorate for Christmas. You are right though, I have to have everything clean BEFORE I decorate, then I clean again. Have fun decorating.
Try using magic sliders for your bar stools. I have them and it makes it so much easier to pull the chair out. Also, they stay much cleaner and I never have to replace them because they aren't made of felt. So you don't have to worry about hair sticking to them either:)
My mother and I have refinished a lot of painted furniture and the best tip I could ever give anyone is to sand/rough up the complete surface that you want to paint over so that there is something for the pain to grab to. Once sanded, wipe down with just water to clean the dust away, let dry and then you can paint.
Oh, also, work in thin layers so that you can make sure all of the paint can dry and you can control the overall finish if there are any imperfections.

My only advice for repainting-outside of asking your store what they say to use in regards to brand make sure you sand first. I didn’t primer, but did sand and have always had good coverage that way

Love the decor in the boys room! I too do a deep cleaning before I decorate, it just feels better. After we painted our cabinets we used clear polyurethane, this really helped protect it. Thanks for the great motivation today!

The powdered tide is great for breaking up build up on the floor from squirt and mop cleaners 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 my go to “floor cleaner”! it works great for cleaning walls and baseboards too with a splash of bleach

Valspar makes a sanded primer that I used on my painted cabinets before I painted them white. Works great.
That tree is amazing! I cannot wait to see the new kitchen island. I'd definitely recommend sanding, priming, sanding, and painting. Jessie at Home has recently painted her kitchen cabinets and her island. She is a good resource too.

I missed when you’re whole gmail went live w friend of mine just passed away Sunday night and I’m still coping with her being gone but you’re videos keep me going thank you for that! & the paused couple of years we’ve stopped decorating Xmas my parents sit was too much on them and I still live home and they didn’t want to do it but this year we brought a medium size real tree and it’s plopped right in our table in the living room and we got a new Xmas skirt for it. We’re going to decorate it soon can’t wait for that again! & I’m also the same way if it’s not clean it throws me off lol

Definitely sand before you paint. They have the liquid sandpaper i have not tried it yet but I have heard great stuff from family and friends. But the more prep you do the easier it is to paint.

Use BIN primer sealer before painting the island and it will make the paint adhere better. Also, have it tinted dark so that you won't have to use two coats of your finish paint. Good luck and I love watching you clean so fast. You are an inspiration!!

In a perfect world I’ll be able to decorate when I have a clean space 😩 but to be fair, before I decorate a certain space I’ll clean that area to be spotless then decorate. The surrounding areas will be a mess tho 🤣
Ok so island, I love the kilz primer. You’ll definitely have to try and sand then apply your primer if you’re having some chipping on your island. After you use primer you can definitely paint and it’ll look great. If you want an extra barrier I would definitely recommend using minwax water base polycrylic to seal it because it will not yellow and is an amazing poly to protect your paint ♥️

The best way to paint a surface that gets bumped or dirty that needs to be scrubbed down I find it best to actually sand the original paint. You don't have to get all the paint off but you do want it really roughed up. Then I'd use a bonding primer and I'd use an oil based like a semi gloss paint because it's more durable and wipeable.
Yay you're finally painting the island!!! My advice is, and I know it will be messy but sand the island down first, as you already have chips in the original paint and there will be more but you won't realise until you sand, so definetly sand it down to allow any other chips to be sanded out also will help the primer to stick better and not as many chips. When it comes to paint I know Valspar is here in the UK as well as the US and they do a great range of kitchen cabinet paints which are super hard wearing, plus i know here you can get any colour mixed so I'm assuming its the same in the US. The trick is several thin coats to build it up but allow time in between the coats to allow the paint time to cure it looks awful at first but its worth it in the long run, as helps make the paint tougher and last longer! Sorry for the essay 🙈🤣 much love to u all cant wait to see how it turns out!!! Xxx
The company that painted our cabinets used PPG break-through paint. It’s an acrylic paint that they warrantied for two years against chipping and peeling.
