Why did the light on the door come on when you started to remove the panel? The same thing happened on my car. The light on the driver's door didn't work so I started to take off the door card. After I had taken off that piece of plastic the light worked again, so I just drive around without it. Easiest fix ever :-)

Yes the door lock buttons can be changed by unscrewing them from the back. It is not complicated.

All the plastic fasteners broke when I pulled the panel off after removing all the screws. Not good. My guess is that Andrew had removed the panel in the past and either broke all the fasteners or they were broken by someone else before he bought the car.
No one likes to break shit when working on a car.

I've done this on 3 different Audis now and haven't broken any clips. Sometimes they do get brittle though.

They break 95% of the time. If you remove a door card without breaking any (or even just one), go buy a lottery ticket, LoL. They are a TERRIBLE design. I always pick up 4 from VW before I even remove a panel.

Check your fuses first. If they are all good you could take your door apart and check that the electrical connections are tight.
