Thanks for another good video. The clear explanation of how to identify the downy mildew was really helpful- as was the ratio for the fungicide mix. The instructions on my copper fungicide say use 2 OZ, but I had no idea how many tablespoons that was- which you clearly identified. Thanks.
Gary, Downey Mildew is in the air, rain brings it down to the leaves. It will swim across droplets on the surface of the leaf. It has barbs like fish hooks that attach themselves to the tissue of the leaf. I had success with copper and neem on my spring Squash. It is too hot now to plant squash, and cucumber, I am growing watermelon and cantaloupe here in Tx Z8.. With the lack of rain and humidity there is no sign of PM or DM. It only active here in the spring when it rains daily. Great video :)
Sabine RiverAuthority I believe it. I survived mine pretty well. Next year I am going with a strict routine. I think I can keep them both down using my old methods and some of the new stuff. Copper seemed to help a lot.
Thanks Gary I appreciate this. I been having success with the product you showed. I heard baking soda works for powdery as well. Best wishes and Happy Gardening!!
I have a massive fungus/mildew problem on all my plants, inside and out, but it seems to be from aphids. My outdoor plants responded awesomely after I started spraying the aphids off with the hose, but I can't get ahead on my indoor plants.
hi there i have one plant dont know its name but its leaf is look like spider plant, now my plant leaf tips & some leaf is turning brown...pls tell me what to do
My greenhouse has been devasted by this desease . I lost all my greenhouse crops . For next season would you advise treating the soil and should I do it with copper fungicide . Lastly my outdoor grapes have the same problem can I use the same treatment .
Powder Mildew floats in the air. I dont know enough about greenhouses but tyring to figure out ways to spray regularly before the PM arrives is key outdoors. You can use the same treatment but PM has different strains too.
I tried using the bonide copper powder and it coagulated severely in the sprayer and it was really not fun cleaning it out. Maybe the copper liquid is better. We communicated earlier on how to manage these diseases on a large scale (like seven 30 foot rows). I think I will be thinning out the foliage and actually pulling of clipping the weaker plants to get better air and light in the plants that remain. Is it known if these two types of mildews can spread from one planting to another area by air ?
Great video, Gary! I THOUGHT that's what my cukes were getting and you confirmed it. Thank you. I live quite a ways from a store and I do not have Copper Fungicide, but I DO have Daconil. Will Daconil work? Thanks.
Hey, Gary. Alway appreciate your vids. I grow bitter melon. I believe that I have downy mildew. Now I eat the bitter melon as well as the leaves. Is it safe to eat the leaves if I spray this copper fungicide? Obviously I wouldn't eat the leaves immediately after spraying but if I wait 2 or 3 days would it be alright? if I washed the leaves? Thanks for your time.
I wouldnt eat copper sprayed plant leaves. Though it is considered organic, you would still ingest metal. I dont know how long you would have to wait for it to wash from leaves. I would be careful.
Yes I would agree with you that copper based fungicide is the best way to control downy mildew. However it should be used solely and not to mixed with other type of foliar application or with other types of pesticides or it will lose its effectiveness. If you do fertigation farming, you should stop irrigate fertilizer on the day you spray copper based fungicide to ensure its effectiveness. Over time rain will eventually wash away the fungicide and you have to repeat application. Copper based fungicide is a spot on fumgicide so don't count that they would protect your crop throughout the season. You may have to repeat usage at least once a week.
+The Story of Keith Firkins Sometime people pull them and replant but if you can get it under control, they will continue producing. If it goes untreated it will spread to all plants.
I'm having a serious problem w/ powder mildew. I started cutting the infected leaves off. Do u recommend that I use the the Cooper or the backing soda. I need help, please.
Vincent Esposito Yes spray before it arrives. Sprays can help stop them from establishing.Copper does have prevetatnive properties but I use it for when it arrives. I prefer not to have copper around.
I have yellow spots on the leaves of my Bougainville plant, but no white or gray spots on the back of the leaves. Is this also considered as downey mildew?

Thanks for the information. Quite helpful.
Discovered this today after days of rain and on the same squash plant there are new leaves that are kinda curled.
Nature.
Thanks for the helpful information. Always well thought out!!!
I've used that same copper spray on my cantaloupe and it turned the leaf edges yellow

Daconil is effective. Just read up on any sprays and make a decision that way. But it is effective.
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly, Gary. Appreciate it.
Do you spray every 7-10 days for the life of the squash?

Copper has helped my peppers with black spot disease a whole lot more than the neem oil.

The copper might deplete the microbes (good ones) in the soil. I try my best not to let it get in the soil.
+karen l Smith yes you're right. But copper (Cu) also provides vital nutrient to the plant especially to fight disease. Just use the right amount.
Hello, I am experiencing tho mildew in our garden as well, is it wise to pull the plants after harvesting the zucchinis?
+The Story of Keith Firkins Sometime people pull them and replant but if you can get it under control, they will continue producing. If it goes untreated it will spread to all plants.
I'm having a serious problem w/ powder mildew. I started cutting the infected leaves off. Do u recommend that I use the the Cooper or the backing soda. I need help, please.
smilingSabbie nash26 If its pretty bad, I would hit it with copper. Baking soda can slow it down but I think copper does more to kill it off.
Ideally, should you spray before the DM or PM appears? Does the copper have preventative qualities, or is it a post DM/PM treatment?
Vincent Esposito Yes spray before it arrives. Sprays can help stop them from establishing.Copper does have prevetatnive properties but I use it for when it arrives. I prefer not to have copper around.
I have yellow spots on the leaves of my Bougainville plant, but no white or gray spots on the back of the leaves. Is this also considered as downey mildew?
+Dibi Kids if there is no white mildew or white powder growth it isn't usually a powdery or down mildew.
Thanks
I sprayed copper liquid on mine and the leaves died anyway and the fruit growth and development seems to have been affected. ???
It is so hard to treat.
What copper fungicide did you use to cure it?
Bonide. It works. Just stick to a routine
