They don't explain this in the film but its an important detail - the map was created by Lupin, Sirius, Pettigrew (Scabbers) and James (Harry's dad). The title on the map says "Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs present to you the Marauder's Map." Moony is Lupin (werewolf), Wormtail is Pettigrew (rat), Padfoot is Sirius (dog), and Prongs is James (stag). Their friend group called themselves the Marauders, and they terrorized the school with pranks. The three friends learned how to transform into animals so that they could help Lupin on the nights he transformed.

    • @jwsel
      @jwsel Год назад +419

One of the biggest flaws in the films is that they do not provide enough background information about the Marauders (James, Sirius, Lupin, and Pettigrew).
It also isn’t clear in the film why Lupin and Snape came to the Shrieking Shack. Lupin believed Sirius was a killer, but Harry saying he saw Pettigrew shook that belief. When Sirius took Ron, Lupin was looking at the map and saw Pettigrew’s name. He realized that Pettigrew was alive and figured out that he framed Sirius. When he rushed out of his office, he left the map open. Snape came to the office to give Lupin a potion to control his change into a werewolf, saw the map, and followed Lupin to the shack.
As for Pettigrew framing Sirius, what happened was that James and Lily learned Voldemort was after them. They went into hiding using a charm that allowed only one person to know where they were. If you weren’t that person or were told by that person, it would be impossible to find them. They made Sirius their secret-keeper, but he thought it would be too obvious to Voldemort so he suggested they change the secret-keeper to Pettigrew, who nobody would think likely to be entrusted with something so important. Pettigrew then told Voldemort where the Potters were. Nobody else knew of the change, so they all assumed Sirius betrayed the Potters. Pettigrew completed the frame by confronting Sirius in a street, blowing it up and killing a bunch of Mughles, cutting off his own finger as evidence he “died,” and changing into a rat to escape. Because he disappeared, everyone assumed Sirius commuted the murders.

Don’t be discouraged about being in Slytherin. Harry could have been in Slytherin just as easily. They are ambitious and very self assured. Great wizards have come from that house. It’s just that most of the “bad” wizards come from that house because their ambitions tend to get in the way. Hufflepuff is a great house, too. They are more compassionate and lead with their hearts. @DlcEnergy Год назад +3

@@sweety3303 This is the interesting thing about this particular time-turning event. It relied on a few convenient things for their past selves to still think Buckbeak died.
      1. The pumpkins being there.
      2. Them deciding to chop one.
      3. Them unable to see Buckbeak.
If they prevented their past selves thinking Buckbeak died, their past selves wouldn't use their time-turner. But they must. When they go back they remember all the things their future selves did. So it's not just a one and done thing set in stone. Their new past selves must go back, and may do it slightly differently until it gets consistent.
Also there's a paradox with him saving himself from all the Dementors. How could he have first gone back to save himself?
And for the question of if Buckbeak died before they went back in time. If we're just talking about before WE saw them go back in time, then we never saw Buckbeak die. But if we're talking before they ever went back in time, then he would've died, causing them to initially go back, and throw the rock to let them know also.

The thing you have to keep in mind when it comes to time travel stories is that they establish their own rules. Most stories either use one timeline only or multiple timelines. This movie/book uses the former, hence the future has already happened (ex: Harry saving his past self from the Dementors). On the other hand, Marty McFly created an alternate timeline in Back to the Future (you still haven't finished the trilogy) in which his family is happier & more successful in 1985 due to the changes he made in 1955.

This and HBP are my favorites. The ONLY thing that bothers me about this movie after reading the books was that they only needed a line from Lupin explaining who the creators of the Marauders’ Map and why they called themselves by those nicknames. It would’ve given more depth and meaning to Harry’s patronus. I know I was quite confused about it when I left the theatre. Someone had to explain it to me. Otherwise, this movie was masterfully done.

@@melindamercier6811 OMG yes, I´ve had this problem with the third movie since it came out. I LOVE the third book, and the main reason is the story of the Marauders. And then the movie barely mentions them! And as you said, it is confusing. I understand they couldn´t do the whole monologue that Lupin does, but just a couple of extra lines. Like, how the hell did he know it was a map? In the movie, they don´t explain it. To this day, every time I watch POA I need to rant about it. And I just realized this comment was actually a rant, sorry about that. 😅

-Harry's father, Sirius, and Peter learned to become animagus so they could accompany Lupin when he transformed. Sirius was a dog, Peter a rat and James a stag.
-They were the "Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs" that made the Marauder's Map.
-Dumbledore wanted Lupin to be able to attend Hogwarts so The Shrieking Shack was made for lupin to go to on full moons to transform and the womping willow planted to keep students away.
-And if you think about it, Ron's divination was true. Harry suffered but was happy that he did because he discovered the truth about his Godfather.

Just wanted to comment and say the reason Harry thought his dad was the one who conjured the patronus is because his dad was an animagus along with Sirius and Peter. Hence their names Padfoot the dog (Sirius) wormtail (Peter the rat) moony (Remus who’s a warewolf) and prongs. Prongs was Harry’s dad and his animagus was a deer which is why Harry’s patronus takes that form because he views his dad as his protector. The books go into a lot more detail about this and the mauraders in general so I thought I’d just comment and clear away any confusion :)

Hufflepuff is often considered as the house for rejects, because each other house selects students based on desireable traits - bravery, cunning (and pure blood), intelligence - getting their pick of the litter, while Hufflepuff gets the rest, so it might seem like all the brave, cunning, and clever are filtered away from Hufflepuff, but Hufflepuffs get their share of great witches, and wizards too.

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about Michael Gambon as Dumbledore after Richard Harris died, but he did such a great job. This is my 2nd most favorite of all the films. I love how prominent Hermione's role is in this one. The first film is #1 - love the kids and Harry learning he is a wizard. ❤

Yeah, Richard Harris was such a loss. A great man. He played the wise and highly respected Dumbledore well. However in the books, Dumbledore did have his "quirkiness" about him at times ... still wise, powerful and all knowing ... but a bit playfully weird at times. Gambon brought a bit of this. Who knows ... maybe Harris might of played it like this eventually.

Awesome reaction my friends. What is really overlooked is that the man who played Dumbledore in the first two movies was Richard Harris,…a Hollywood veteran,.. but he had cancer and passed away,..opening the door for Michael Gambon to play the part. He did a wonderful job in finishing out the series. The time sequences and foreshadowing in this movie as Amber mentioned were insanely mind blowing. Can’t wait for the next one. Thank you both….

It takes a very good actor to portray a character so well that the audience forgets the actor is acting. I once saw a play where the actor playing Pontius Pilate was booed when he walked onto the stage to makes his bows after the play was over. The director stormed out on the stage and had a few words with those who booed because they hated the character, but transferred their emotions onto the actor.

Harry's dad and his friends were the creators of the Marauder's Map.
Moony - Lupin, nickname for being a werewolf
Wormtail - Peter Pettigrew, for being a rat
Padfoot - Sirius, for being a dog
Prongs - James Potter, for being a stag
That's how Lupin knew what the map was. Can't remember if they talk about this in the movie.

This is not only the best of the Harry Potter films (It's just incredibly solid and well-done), this is the best time travel film by a long shot. There are no plot holes, the time travel is perfectly explained and foreshadowed, and the reveal feels amazing, all wrapped up in a story with a fabulous villain, a genuinely shocking twist, and a grand finale which sets up the rest of the ENTIRE series.
    Fan-freaking-tastic film.

Fun side note since this is the patronus movie. IN HP lore there was a dark wizard called raczidian who was sort of that ages voldemort. He had a legion of dementors for an army and the young boy who stopped them had a mouse for a patronus. It was the most powerful patronus ever documented and raczidian himself tried to conjure a patronus to fight off the mouse patronus, but since he was pure evil, maggots came out of his wands and ate him.

The Marauders map was actually created by Padfoot, Wormtail, Moony and Prongs who were Sirius, Pettigrew, Lupin and James Potter respectively. They were a gang and the jerk tree was also put in place to hide Lupin's transformation when he was a student cos he was a werewolf and Dumbledore wanted to protect him from the students and vice versa. Which led the other three to become animagi (I hope that's the plural for an animagus lol) just so they could keep their friend company. Oh an Animagi is a human shape shifter and James, Wormtail and Sirius could turn into a Stag, Rat and Wolf respectively

Sybil Trelawney wasn’t possessed, she made a prophesy at that time!
She was descended from a very important seer, Cassandra Trelawney very famous for her fortune telling abilities.
Even though the people thought that Sybil (the divination teacher) was a fraud she was a gifted teacher and witch! A bit odd but gifted!
Fortune telling at the point of making prophecies was extremely rare magical gift!
In a future film you will see why!
    I’m not spoiling anything yet!

This movie is the most special of the series for me. I was exactly the same age as harry when each movie came out, which was already amazing, but on opening day of this film, I was also visiting Scotland, where much of the movie was filmed, and even visited the bridge that the hogwarts express stalls on when the Dementors attack in the beginning.
To be a 13-year old watching a 13-year-old Harry on opening night in a country of magic, while surrounded by scenery from the movie, was incredible.
We also visited the rock formation called The Old Man of Storr, which the dragon chases harry around in the next film.
