He is 62 now.. Still rocking. Billy is solid. Everybody gets old. They were damn cool in their glory days. I have a 6ft poster of sonic temple hung up. Yeah!
I only discovered them recently. I wanna die. I LOVE them, I literally can't go for an hour without listening to them...there is just something about Ian...i am OBSESSED. their music Is haunting and so powerful. I adore the Cult
Ian looks so happy in this video and wow talk about up close and personal with the fans. Probably wouldn't see that today. This was a great great song for them. This was THE CULT at their best I think, although, I've been listening for over 30 years now. Thanks for the upload.
This was the band at their best.....I did like Nigel Preston's drumming best...R.I.P. This was when they were still a 'Goth' band. I really loved them since I really grew up listening to them...
Khorrum Gilani - er...careful with that axe Eugene...The Cult did indeed have Gothic influences, among more music genres as well. However labeling the band a straight 'Goth' band I would disagree. That was why they were so good - they combined music genres and never played only one genre. For example they never really appealed to the 'Grunge' genre although they probably incorporated the Grunge genre in to their music. One thing I am certain of is why oh why haven't The Cult been inducted in to the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame?
was fortunate to have seen them 4 times in the 80s. friggen awesome band,, really briught in a new edge back then that made them unique.. still listen to them all the time,, never gets old......
I saw them perform this at least a dozen times. Seeing Ian smile. This is one of my favourite Cult songs. Sure, Love Removal, Sanctuary, Wild Fleur, Bad Fun, but I really liked the relentless message of this song. Ian was such a force in my youth. I remember thinking: The Cult or Guns 'N Roses. Why choose? Axl was just as influential. I'm 17 again seeing this. Thanks much.
Gorgeous Ian astbury! A GOD! Best most underrated singer in Rock! Billy Duffy is a great guitar player and they wrote awesome music that is still fresh 35 years later! Followed them since 1985!
One of the best rock bands for sure. Very underrated. Have been blessed to see them live 5 times since I first saw them in 1987. Great voice. Fantastic guitar. Great songs. God bless. 💗➕💗🎤🎸
He is a true rock person( icon if you will ) and the band is one of my all time favorites... so different to almost to any other band. Never got confused about which band was playing on radio or MTV even if you hadn't heard the song before.
LOVE is a great album. I can listen to it straight thru many times. Very airy and breathes well, not too over done. Ians voice is butter and Billy on the gretsch is sick.
Jeez, I just love this group, I forgot how good they were, this is an underated era of music, that echoey post punk era. I find these guys absolutely trance inducing. And this entire live series is the best.....
You are totally right. I like their new music too, but when they use to play this kind of music is the reason I liked them a lot. They sounded so different than every other band. jim90290, thanks for posting this video of one of the greatest bands of all time.
Billy & Ian are great guys too. A friend/Producer worked w/them on the demos that lead them to reform @the studio we worked out of. Billy and I started hanging out a good bit. I should have talked to him about his guitar-technique, but that's one of those things that we new Engineers were told not to do. F' that - I so should have!
He has a Great Smile... Smile More Often Musicians, It's Infectious & More Important "Now" More Than Ever Before!!! Let's unite in being safe during & post Covid but Living Productive & Happy Lives - Back To Work & School! Join me - Say "AYE"!!!
Yes, I agree with you sentiments totally! If I want to get myself out of the Negative and into the Positive, a few minutes of ‘The Cult’ at full volume on the head phones usually works wonders! A fantastic band who are loved by those who live in the real world! Those who live without a love of this band live forever in darkness . :-))
ian ashbury preformed the roles of jim morrison on both the times in saw them play with 2 of the surviiving doors in 2003 and 2006, ive seend the cult only 3 times in the 80s and stil good thanks for uploading this vid :_
5 people made me pick up the guitar and start a band....Jimmy Paige, George Lynch, Tommy Rombola, and Sully Erna, Steve Stevens and Billy Duffy.........
The Cult, they are a unique sound. You can tell right away when you here a Cult song. They are distictive and rare. Too bad classic rock radio doesn't play them much.
@thestarsign How did I miss that concert? I was a Cult fan in Brisbane in the late 80s... and you know what a small place it was then. Must have been out of it. Wow. You're very lucky!
Saw them blow Billy Idol off the stage when they opened for him---Love tour,I think-also caught Electric tour&Sonic Temple tour...they always put on a hell of a show
For the Love album I really miss Nigel Preston, RIP, and his formidable tribal drumming (I think he only partially contributed on She Sells). Yes, all the songs on the Love album are strong, Ian voice is fantastic as ever, and Billys guitar riffs are hypnotic but imagine the KILLER album Love would have been with Nigel at the drum kit.
My god he was beautiful! Those eyes, that hair, that beautiful pouty mouth. I had a crush on him for YEARS! My ultimate fantasy man. He was just so damn sexy. I saw them in the late 80's, at a very small pub, in Brisbane Australia. They were fantastic live. Ian has such a wonderfully powerful voice. I was saddened to see and hear (in interviews) that he can be quite bitter and angry. I always thought that he would be a gentle and humble type of guy. Guess I was wrong.
10 years later they try to come back but Mr Preston death sealed The Cult history. What a great name for a band: "The Cult". If you are a fan, just listen to those recordings w/o Preston on drums. Another good idea is to listen Sex Gang Children, a song call Mauritia Mayer. Preston played the drums and both the sound and rythm is nearby The Cult identity. Preston was rigth: Ian and Billy were selling the sanctuary. Now they are paying their mistake.
Do you represent the estate of Nigel Preston? He was a fantastic drummer, but his performance suffered as he drown in his own addiction. Most of The Cult's suceess came post Preston. In all honesty I think he was the best Cult Drummer, but the best songs and Albums were played without him. As for Song Writing Ian and Billy were always the driving force, Jamie and Nigel were the support.
mamma mia quanto è cambiato....live a Bologna il 29/09 smbrava un cespuglio e 'na panza....lx me rimane un mito ma si fosse conservato come il buon Duffy.

I only discovered them recently. I wanna die. I LOVE them, I literally can't go for an hour without listening to them...there is just something about Ian...i am OBSESSED. their music Is haunting and so powerful. I adore the Cult
Verónica León Soffia yes indeedy !! Immaculate band !! Me hopes you are aware of Bauhaus who are even better !!
As i get old, it lightens my heart that this music continues to inspire those lucky to be younger. Keep it ALIVE.
Noob!
They are so amazing!!! 🖤
There music gets better with age like old wine
Ian looks so happy in this video and wow talk about up close and personal with the fans. Probably wouldn't see that today. This was a great great song for them. This was THE CULT at their best I think, although, I've been listening for over 30 years now. Thanks for the upload.
I think they don´t like the boring nowadays' crowd
This was the band at their best.....I did like Nigel Preston's drumming best...R.I.P. This was when they were still a 'Goth' band. I really loved them since I really grew up listening to them...

Jackie Stewart - wow you probably saw them at their peak best. Very fortunate.

Gorgeous Ian astbury! A GOD! Best most underrated singer in Rock! Billy Duffy is a great guitar player and they wrote awesome music that is still fresh 35 years later! Followed them since 1985!
Oh God Ian's smile, Ian's everything :) Love this song!
I absolutely adore The Cult! They have this haunting quality to their music that leaves me feeling so inspired!!
What is it about Ian's smile that makes me melt into a puddle?? No-one else's smile does this. Ah well, one of life's little mysteries.....
Max 820 puddle
Could be the crooked English teeth?
Max 820 Me too.I ve get really excited when I hear his sexy voice

It should be illegal to have that much charisma 😀

Fantastic era of a fantastic band. The Cult owned the 80s.
You are totally right. I like their new music too, but when they use to play this kind of music is the reason I liked them a lot. They sounded so different than every other band.

Yeah I just meant Sully and Tommy both as one since they are in the same band....
Well we are certainly thankful to hear that! Can you share more savory insights into the mundane aspects of your life? Still jamming?
The Cult, they are a unique sound. You can tell right away when you here a Cult song. They are distictive and rare. Too bad classic rock radio doesn't play them much.
