i once heard an italian driver, Fabi or whomever, (still racing in feeder series on PM's payroll) saying in an interview that he used to raid Marlboro's London offices and plunder for cigarette cartons, they were intimately and financially fueled by tobacco
Oh yeah. James Hunt used to smoke ... something else, Capstans or Rothmans or something ... but he'd decant them into Marlboro packets in deference to McLaren's sponsors, long after he left the team.
Happy 1st Anniversary of this lovely little RUclips channel being active keep it coming and hopefully we will have the rest of the 1980s and also fingers crossed for the 1990s
This time Turbos & Tantrums is definitely in the mood! Jokes all around and all brilliant! "The."flying" Patrick Tambay turned into "crusing" Patrick Tambay" 😂
It seems so quaint that the record for career wins was still Sir Jackie's 27. But it also reminds us that it's impossible to compare drivers over time. I don't think Schumacher or Hamilton are 70 wins better than Stewart, Clark, or Lauda. In a way, grand prix wins are much cheaper today because there are so many more races in a season. Better engineering has meant more races, far fewer mechanical retirements, and, thankfully, fewer deaths on the track. (BTW, I still think Prost was the GOAT!)
Prost was the best at accumulating points for a full decade, as he said you didn't get points for pole position. Technically he had about 6 points more than senna in 88,but for some crazy reason they only allowed your best 11.
I think people had to work a lot harder for race wins back then. Finishing was an achievement in itself! Nowadays just turning up in the best car is often enough to win, whereas in this era especially you were highly likely to end your race in a cloud of smoke.
I only have footage from the TV broadcasts, which all have commentary on too. If there's a way of isolating and removing the voices but leaving the engine sounds, it's well beyond my capabilities!
THAT picture of Keke with ciggi hanging out of his mouth is an all time classic. Different era!!
If you can find a picture of Keke without a cigarette, you're doing well.

@@TurbosTantrums 1988 is the year of the fastest cigarette pack ever
i always marvel at curb patterns made out of marlboro chevrons, ah, the days

For the first time in 1985 things went well for Lauda.

I liked the conspiracy board meme when talking about potential moves! I mean, I liked all of it, but that made me giggle!
It was when Murray said Andrea de Cesaris was rumoured for Ferrari that I let out an audible "Ha!"
Super Niki Bravo !!!

Last Grand Prix start for Stefan Bellof before his death at Spa Francochamps the following week.
There it is the last F1 race for Bellof.... what apity he had to die.
Why the highlights dont have sound ?

Weren't you talking about Samantha Smith in a previous episode?
Yes, San Marino '83.
