Kansas was my favorite band for years. Once, at a concert, I was in the 5th row or so. Robbie kept smiling and winking at me (no really). I thought, "He knows how much I love them." Toward the end of the show, he said to the crowd, "I want everyone to wish my niece a happy birthday." The girl next to me stood up.

    Thank you for sharing.
His music is part of my life since the very first albums back in the 70s. I didn't know about his solo album, will go for it now.
Dust in the Wind is wonderful and was a big hit here in Brazil too.
    May he rest in peace.

I was blessed to see you in '79, and wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Your parents gave you some precious advice, and beyond all the great music and memories, you left us some very important advice of your own: Honor and appreciate your parents, they're not gonna be here forever. RIP Robby Stienhardt. We won't forget you.

Hmm there were high profile rock violinists prior to Kansas eg. David LaFlamme of It's A Beautiful Day and Jerry Goodman of The Flock / Mahavishnu but I think it was still enough of a novelty back then to give them the edge with Wally Gold & Don Kirshner in securing their record contract.

I am glad I got to tell Robby how much his music meant to me. I had the pleasure of knowing him over several years and the time I spent with he and Cindy were among the happiest times of my life. He passed on my birthday....I don't know if that meant anything in the grand scheme but it insures that to me, he will never be forgotten.
