I feel like this list of moisturizing vs sealing oils contradicts everything low porosity naturals have been taught. For example, coconut oil is a moisturizing oil however for low porosity naturals, a lot of us don’t like it and it makes our hair very dry. Same goes for olive oil.
If you’re prone to dandruff, don’t use coconut oil. Coconut oil is prone to cause build up which can make the dandruff flare up more and cause big flakes. Take it from me from experience. Light oils are the way to go
For those with low porosity and sensitive skin scalp, get Mct oil, it's like the lighter version of coconut oil, it doesn't build up as much, doesn't solidify so the best of coconut oil withouth the fuss. It's also good for health(in salad as a dressing with ACV and honey) and for skin too. You can find it in Fitness shop or the health aisle in most supermarket.
This video was very beneficial. Everyone always talked about the differences but never went into great detail on which oil is which. Since now I know which is a moisture and which is a sealant, it's going to be easier for me to keep my waves moisturized. Thanks!
I use Argain oil and Jojaboa n grape seed as a sealant I only use raw microwaved shea Shea butter and water for moisture . I use a lot of leave in conditioners .
This was really helpful, I'm familiar with moisturizing oils and sealants but it's good to have a reference of some of the good ones because there are so many oils out there. I honestly get the best results when I seal everything in with a little castor oil. I have fine strands so I can't use a lot because it's a heavy, thick oil but my hair is moisturized for days when I use it. I'll have to def pick up some of that mint almond oil, I always hear great things about it.
This was so helpful!! I had no idea there was a difference and now I understand why some are “not working for me” ... nope I’m just stupid and have been using them incorrectly.
I was beginning to take notes on the oils that MOISTURIZE and SEAL...but I did not know that they were only going to be ready made concoctions with a ton of oils...like, which is which?? I'm already starting to look up diff. types of oils to see which functions as what...so, I got overly excited when I saw this thumbnail, but it did not quite help in that category. But thanks for the video.
Right, the switch up was not in line with the initial intent of the video. Leads you to question credibility. It's one thing to share your favorite oils, why and how you use them and another to try and educate people on oils. The video started out wrong by saying the two types of oils are sealants and moisturizers. The two types are carrier and essential. After that, oils can be used for different reasons, sealing, moisturzing, growth, shine, frizz, etc.
uggggghhh I hate coconut oil in my hair that and olive oil!!both be make my scalp itch I use to use jbco but for some reason my scalp would be itchy af but I use some generic castor oil and I don't have that problem but both make my hair soft...
You should try a cold pressed, virgin, non gmo and certifide organic coconut oil. Louanna coconut oil is more for cooking and baking. The difference is like night and day.
I love it...I want to say I am an Indian and have semi-wavy on the straight side hair...I am crazy about coconut oil...I mix castor oil with it for prepoo but I cannot go without coconut oil....even after washing hair I use coconut oil instead of conditioners...I love coconut oil and the smell is just aaahhhh😋😋😋😋... anyways I love ur video...u go girl...love from India...😊😊😊😊😊😊😘😘😘😘😘
I really enjoy using Argan oil, the liquid gold. It's very expensive but it is so worth it. By the way Kimmie, I absolutely love your videos, they are very informative. TFS😘
Great video! I personally don't use oils in my hair because they weigh my hair down, but your explanation really helped understand what different oils do, so I may give oils another try in my routine! Thanks so much 😊!
Hi! I have a reasonable question. You start off talking about coconut oil and olive oil - but you never explained why you don’t use coconut or olive oil anymore! Thanks!❤️🖤💚
That wasn’t the purpose of this video. This was a video to educate not to share my own opinion on why I don’t. I have another video explaining why I don’t use oils.
@@semoneg2826 that’s because it costs the hair in a barrier. Similar to silicones. It doesn’t actually moisturize it just sits on top and coats and makes a seal to where no moisture can get in

Hey Kim ☺️ What oil would you recommend for a scalp massage on wash day ? I have low porosity hair. And I’m newly natural so I’m still trying to combat itchy scalp. And dry hair.
Interesting! What happens when mixing moisturizing and penetrating oils together? I.e. mixing rice bran and coconut oil or another mix of multiple oils? Will the moisturizing oils have deeper penetration, less penetration, or about the same?
kourt Each oil reacts differently to Each head... Oo is a sealant for me. Avocado is moisturizing. Grapeseed is a sealant, Apricot is moisturizing for me.
Yes, you can use a moisturizing oil and then use a sealing oil on top. Me personally, I leave my hair as wet as possible (I use a bottle of water or a mix of water and aloe vera juice if my hair starts to dry out), apply whatever I'm using as a conditioner or leave-in. Then I use a silicone product as my sealer (don't hate me - I LOVE silicones and they have ALWAYS worked for me, natural and relaxed and I will ALWAYS use them). I have a mix of low porosity hair and my curl pattern is a mix of zigzags and "s". Hope that helps. Also, I would advise to be light-handed with the oils.
you can also mix the oils one does not affect the other... How ever I use moisturizer oils for hot oil treatment or hush before wash ...then shampoo as most products on the market today are oil base

Hi i have high porosiy hair i following this routine plz say me that this is crt oil then shampoo, egg and yoghurt mask, then i use aloe vera and water as a leave in conditioner and seal with castor oil can i use this routine i cant afford products
Avocado is a penetrating/moisturizing oil perfect for scalp massages. Jojoba is strictly a sealant as it has no penetrating power. I'm not sure about apricot but I know that it's a very light oil perfect for low porosity or/and fine hair.
More on the line of the essential oils... it treats the skin /scalp.. you can buy it in a blend of other oils or use sparingly to treat spot conditions
Hey! Love your vids and you are one of my favorite You Tubers. Question about argan oil: I always thought it was supposed to be a great moisturizer for hair. And that it has vitamins and antioxidants. Not just a sealant. Of course I could be dead wrong. Did you mean to list it under sealant?
Kimberly Anderson Hey Boo!!! Argan Oil is in the 'BOTH' category. It's is both Moisturizing and a sealant but that will change based on the Porosity of your hair. If you have High Porosity hair you will love using Argan Oil as a source of moisture. Low Porosity hair (like myself) would consider it better for a sealant. I lived for Argan Oil when my hair was heat damaged and Colored. So you're right 😊... I'll talk about Porosity next and how to match it with the best oils
So here’s where I’m confused. I want oils that will help with hair growth and retaining length. I tend to put my hair in protective styles so my hair is not out so which ones do I use?
My fiance said something to me that blew my mind: "cooking oils are just food lotion."
LOOOL factsss

Avocado oil maybe?? Idk😂
Coconut oil is drying your coz its getting in your cuticles ,so you have to seal it with another oil eg Castor oil
Avocado oil Reallyyy does justice try that
Because you can’t use it alone. And when you do use it use heat. Problem solved.
It's drying cause ple use it at the end of their hair routine, tried it right at the beginning

Correction, Argan Oil is a penetrating oil. Not a sealing oil.
I think they can work both ways.
Argan oil is mainly a sealant oil while moisturising a little at the same time.
From first watching Kaice’s video to now yours my knowledge is more confirmed. Thank you for separating the oils into two groups like this.
Coconut oil makes my hair dry; I use black castor oil and s moisturizer
@@nateenaravare1758 Avocado oil

Coconut oil is not to be left in your hair at a raw state but is great when use in hot oil treatments

castor oils soothe the skin where as coconut oil is antifungal so it would work on whatever is in your hair by burning it
