In conversation with academic and writer Patricia Limerick, Hickman discusses the women of the American West and their reservoir of courage and resilience in the face of life-threatening change.
Katie Hickman is a best-selling historian, novelist, and travel writer. She is the author of ten books, among them She-Merchants, Buccaneers, and Gentlewomen: British Women in India 1600 - 1900 and, most recently, Brave Hearted: The Dramatic Story of Women in the American West. Her works have been translated into twenty languages.
Patricia Nelson Limerick is the faculty director of the Applied History Initiative at the University of Colorado, the author of The Legacy of Conquest: The Unbroken Past of the American West, and an energetic advocate for the value of bringing historical perspectives to bear on contemporary dilemmas and conflicts.
