I notice that CBS write 'Remembering Chris Hitchens' - they clearly didn't know much about him. He was NEVER 'Chris'. The world is much poorer for his death. Great minds come along far too infrequently, but when a great mind is coupled with such unwavering strength and courage... that is something truly rare.
I never had the pleasure of meeting Hitch but i now own all his Books, You know it almost feels like a member of my family or someone I new dearly passed the day Christopher Hitchens passed away. GBNF x
Christopher Hitchens is the kind of person I admire the most. I often get the impression that he wasn't a very friendly, or humble person. But he was a adamant defender of the most vulnerable among us. He would not soften his language among people who disagreed with him. When he saw murder, he called it murder. When he saw torture, he called it rape. And he did it regardless of how much power the perpetrator had. Henry Kissinger, Mother Theresa, Billy Graham, no one was too big or too holy.
+Rafael de Belen I don't think he deserves the term "warrior of reason". Hitchens' brand of strong proactive atheism is without reason. It is emotional and silly. If you want "reason" look to people with completely open minds about the possibility of the supernatural - like the ancient philosophers who didn't have the anti-religion agendas etc of today. Look at people like Anthony Flew and other converted scientists who had the guts to go against their entrenched colleagues and follow the evidence where it led. Hitchens' atheism is without reason because it has already concluded that God does not exist. We don't even know what is at the edge of the universe or in the deepest oceans. We can't yet explain how humans evolved from gases and bacteria, yet HE knows God doesn't exist. Apparently some animals can discern the presence of disembodied spirits, but HE knows God doesn't exist. Thousands of people have experienced religious NDEs. Yet HE JUST KNOWS God doesn't exist. ZERO reason, ZERO logic.
+pbaylis1 He has said in multiple interviews that the existence of a god can not be disproven, but the chances of there actually being a god are very, very slim. What you are saying isn't really backed up. Care to ellaborate?
Ronald Bloemhoff Well, obviously he's covering his ass because he realises he would be publically ridiculed if he verbalised the proven nature of God's non-existence. He can't say that, but he CAN say the next best available thing.."very, very slim chance". We can't read his mind, but that comes across as an inner belief that God does not exist.
RUclips has immortalised him in a way as his debates and lectures and so on are now available to so many people....he continues to educate and thrill us!
TheGiantKiller8 he was arrogant, you were right on the money. People are following this guy because he cleverly demeans god due to his fkn mommyand daddy issues.

Be grateful that you lived at the same time as the man who effectively began the slow process of educating the world to the indescribable pain that religion/faith, call it what you will, imposes on this world. long live Chris Hitchens
My ex-gf was an atheist of Jamaican heritage (born in the UK though). I always used to hear from her that Jamaica has the highest concentration of churches per capita in the world, although I've never seen any data to back that up.
One of the most insightful, honest and eloquent man of letters in the modern era. He'll take his place with the greats he was inspired by and perhaps we'll be discussing his work decades from now when the world has had time to catch up to him.
At least Hitchens did not just refute Christianity but other religions as well. He was no coward. Many people criticize Christianity because they are just too afraid of saying anything negative about the other religions.
+Cerell Morrison: I don't think it's that simple. In my own case, I know much more about Christianity and their hypocrisy than I know of Islam and their issues. It's not that I'm afraid to criticize Islam, it's that I want to be well informed when I do so. It's also the issue that the debate against Islam is quite polarized, so you need a sort of balance. Hitchens had great credibility so he could never have been abused by racists and right wing extremists to fuel pure hatred. I'm accused of being afraid of Islam all the time, but it has nothing to do with reality and it's quite destructive.
@@jeschinstad Your kind are the biggest hypocrites in the world. You claim to be so Enlighttened and better than everyone else. Look at what your kind are. Although the Soviet Union of Russia marketed atheism for the masses they dabbled in the occult and the elite was very interested in it mainly because of its useful application in regards to the propaganda machine. That does not sound atheistic.
Christopher Hitchens has single handedly made me content with death. I'm no longer scared of passing thanks to this man. I know that death will only bring complete peace, kind of like when we sleep. Thank you Hitch for putting life into perspective for me. You will never be forgotten, and I no longer fear the day that I get to embrace everlasting content with you in the heavenless abyss of reality.
This is so bizarre. I watched Hitchens debate for years when he was still alive, witnessed his last months where he looked worse and worse (health-wise) at each public apparition and kept going back to watch a lot of his videos for years at this point.. And this is the first time I'm realizing he had a wife and seeing this specific video. She seems a lovely lady as well, and by the way she speaks of him they sounded like a happy couple in a solid relationship.
I'm glad Mr. Hitchens left us with so many debates, conversations, and articles and books. Never a dull moment when this man is involved. Even up to the end, he still made sure to leave his mark.
I will never forget reading 'Mortality', a restrained book considering what he was facing. Hitchens was a courageous man. He coined the word 'Tumortown' to describe cancer. Carol Blue paints an accurate portrait of her late husband.
Perhaps the most underrated man in modern times, his speaking and writing style should be taught to English students and his atheist arguments should be taught in religious studies. In my opinion he is one of the greatest men to have ever lived. The greatest role model a young man can have I think. Even in death he remained noble and philosophical, I think he enjoyed every second he spent on earth and I value every moment I see Mr Hitchens on my screen. It was a true honour to hear Christopher and I will talk to my children about him with a smile on my face and a tear in my eye.
He has made me hope that there is a heaven, because Christopher Hitchens will have replaced God by the time we get there. At the very least God will be sitting in the corner with a dunce hat nailed on!!!! 😂
Lol he was epicly wrong about his biggest belief though. His religious hate just made Americans feel superior to Muslims which made Afghanistan and Iraq easier to have a conscious about. He also lost his last debate to Michael Parenti and cheapened debate.
Christopher was to philosophy what Shakespeare was to literature, both unequalled in their fields. He definitely confirmed all of my suspicions about religion, he knew more about the Bible than those that preach it.
Hitchens did something that many men throughout history and in the present seldom dare to do; and that is to speak the truth. He had an obsession with knowledge, with understanding, with discovery. He was what we should all strive to be, curious beyond measure. We should never stop asking the intelligent questions, or instead make up the answers for them, like religion claims to. Hitchens knew that well enough, he exposed hypocritical preachers, he slandered unworthy archbishops and priests, he educated the uncultured masses, he corrected news anchors, and led some of the most interesting debates about some of the most interesting topics (ranging from current affairs and war to religion) with some of the most interesting people. All i can say, is thank you, for everything.
A brilliant man and quite an exceptional woman. We need more like them - but sadly such clarity of thought and honesty is extremely rare. The world is much poorer for his passing.
I cry every time I think about never seeing Hitch speak for the rest of my life. I am grateful for the video archive we do have of him. It never gets old.
he was a powerful voice for truth and accountability in a world woefully short on such champions. the world needs more people like him, and we need them now.
I don't know whether that laugh at the end was laughter of joy or tears. Those words, her words read back to her, brought me to tears. "I hear him and he has the last word." He is sorely missed.
For those that have come her to preach about their belief in god, I have a question. Which of the roughly 4000 currently practiced religions did your god tell you was the true one?
Michael Dewey SEO Videography Not really. Religions teach us humans have the capacity for wickedness. Consider a knife. Is it good or bad? It can be used in the hands of a skilled surgeon to save lives. It can be used in the hands if a psychopath to kill people. Why are you befuddled or surprise that people misuse religion? Religion is also why Catholic nuns, as one example of thousands, dedicate their lives to ministering to the poor and terminally ill in hospices. People are usually at war for geopolitical reasons, economic reasons, racial reasons and religion is thrown into the mix.
***** You seem like an intelligent guy. If I provided you a logical proof for the existence of God would you read it and think about it and, if warranted, expose it's logical flaw ?

I would imagine that in many ways he was difficult to know and not particularly easy to like. Anyone who felt that certain about..... well, anything, and had the erudition and education to articulate that must have been hard to deal with at times. He did have quite an ego, but he was so able to back it up. His “God is not great” is a devastating work, from which there is no coming back. Anyone of any faith should surely have turned away if they had truly read it. I can honestly say his arguments truly opened my mind, and put into words exactly what I thought, only so much more skilfully.

You've opened my eyes to see things for what they truly are.
Thank you for that.

Do you have a tummy ache?
If you do, you can get some medicine at the drug store that will make it feel much better.
I have to warn you though, the medicine was created through scientific means and not through a fictitious deity that you were raised in believing.
Sorry, I hope you get better...
Try praying and see if it goes away...

Christopher Hitchens My all time favorite. It was always a joy to listen to him. His command of the English language was second to none. Even the sound of his voice was enthralling. Yes I am still a Hitch fan. I'm very thankful for all the videos of him in action. To hear him speak adds another dimension to his words and ideas. He is sorely missed.
Love this comment. I look at the world, the news daily and try to think through it as Christopher might; not even close or up to the contest, but I try. Miss you Hitch.
Well put, Sir ....... He was something else - I watch or listen to something from him every week..... How could one not ?
@@thedr.feelgood I do so agree. The stupid comments some people seem to enjoy giving them space. I don’t altogether care if Hitchens was correct or not in his beliefs. however what a fabulous orator, equaled only by Churchill.

That he did not experience a "death bed conversion", which I have personally witnessed in others, speaks volumes to his integrity and the honesty of his, dare I say, convictions. I am honored to have merely heard his words through the internet.
What a wonderfully dignified lady.
Right! I'd never seen her before but I didn't expect anything less.
We’re in the 10th year since his death and this is the first time I’ve seen her. I just noticed the link on my RUclips Home Screen.

Christopher Mcnally - Yes, the English do say the cleverest when speaking English.
I'd say "God Bless him", but I think he'd laugh.
justified by faith Nothing you have said is in love or about it. You threaten others of a place you have no evidence for and say you will be sent there for all eternity. Fire and anguish supposedly the only thing there as well. Nice pascals wager though.
singedlol Chill, he was making a joke and isn't necessarily religious, "God bless him" is just an expression, an ironic one in this case.
i dont think hes laughing now considering where his soul went! ppl can be educated but it does not make them smart!
you have no evidence that god or hell doesnt exist either so whats your point?
julie byrne Saying that education does not equal intelligence right after expressing your outdated belief in the "soul" pretty much just shows everyone that you're either incredibly stupid or a troll. Good day, sad person with nothing better to do in life.
I only wish I would have known him before his death.
Very well said 💯🙏🇮🇪
Charlie definitely would have known he didn’t like to be called Chris…I bet they had to shorten it in order to fit properly on the screen
He was Hitch.
I never had the pleasure of meeting Hitch but i now own all his Books, You know it almost feels like a member of my family or someone I new dearly passed the day Christopher Hitchens passed away. GBNF x
im reading one of his books and I can here his voice in my head almost like he's reading it to me . long live the hitchslap
People who appreciated his contribution, miss him. Its a human thing.
Rest in peace The warrior of reason :)
Care to ellaborate?
pbaylis1
Which god are you referring to? There are many gods that we can talk about :)
I am curious if you have seen this god :)
Rafael de Belen
Pull out a list of logical fallacies and realise how many of those your statements contravene.
Ronald Bloemhoff
Well, obviously he's covering his ass because he realises he would be publically ridiculed if he verbalised the proven nature of God's non-existence. He can't say that, but he CAN say the next best available thing.."very, very slim chance". We can't read his mind, but that comes across as an inner belief that God does not exist.
I miss him dearly. The world is so much less without him.
Thank you Mr. Hitchens. You were instrumental in leading me out of ignorance.
Lovely lady left by an extraordinary man.
RUclips has immortalised him in a way as his debates and lectures and so on are now available to so many people....he continues to educate and thrill us!
I am greatful to this man. He was the real truth and light for me.

Brian Fowler Yes Hitchens was funny but clowns are funny also. His positions are terrible his advice is worse and he is Athesit evangelist version of pat robertson although MUCH funnier I'll admit
Be grateful that you lived at the same time as the man who effectively began the slow process of educating the world to the indescribable pain that religion/faith, call it what you will, imposes on this world. long live Chris Hitchens
Christopher , he hated being called chris he corrected everyone whoever called him Chris as he said his parents named him Christopher 👍
Thank you Mrs Hitchens for sharing him with the world
A. Fellow Jamaican perhaps... And atheist perhaps... As you may well know we are a rare 'breed' in Jamaica.
+Susan Urquhart wow Susan. We are indeed minorities indeed haha
My ex-gf was an atheist of Jamaican heritage (born in the UK though). I always used to hear from her that Jamaica has the highest concentration of churches per capita in the world, although I've never seen any data to back that up.
Mrs Hitchens should have kept him to herself. He was a fool that was full of praise for himself and his followers stroked his ego .
THOMAS GRAHAM you could only wish to have his amount of knowledge
a truly amazing man hugely missed
One of the most insightful, honest and eloquent man of letters in the modern era. He'll take his place with the greats he was inspired by and perhaps we'll be discussing his work decades from now when the world has had time to catch up to him.
At least Hitchens did not just refute Christianity but other religions as well. He was no coward. Many people criticize Christianity because they are just too afraid of saying anything negative about the other religions.
+Cerell Morrison Like who?
+Cerell Morrison: I don't think it's that simple. In my own case, I know much more about Christianity and their hypocrisy than I know of Islam and their issues. It's not that I'm afraid to criticize Islam, it's that I want to be well informed when I do so. It's also the issue that the debate against Islam is quite polarized, so you need a sort of balance. Hitchens had great credibility so he could never have been abused by racists and right wing extremists to fuel pure hatred. I'm accused of being afraid of Islam all the time, but it has nothing to do with reality and it's quite destructive.
Josip Čondić Jurkić I am an Indian atheist, who was raised a Hindu, and i totally agree with you
@@jeschinstad Your kind are the biggest hypocrites in the world. You claim to be so Enlighttened and better than everyone else. Look at what your kind are. Berlin wall, iron curtain, bamboo curtain labour camps ,death squads, death of innocence and brutalising anyone you do not agree with.

Easy to see you were brainwashed by HITCHENS AND HIS COHORTS OF IDIOT FOLLOWERS.
@@Zinner222 How can you be an atheist if you demand others worship you as a god? I thought that atheism was the disbelief in gods. Truth is that Hitler was Catholic. Although the Soviet Union of Russia marketed atheism for the masses they dabbled in the occult and the elite was very interested in it mainly because of its useful application in regards to the propaganda machine. That does not sound atheistic.
First view of Christopher's wife Superb woman . Lucky to have found each other.
Christopher Hitchens has single handedly made me content with death. I'm no longer scared of passing thanks to this man. I know that death will only bring complete peace, kind of like when we sleep. Thanks to Hitchens, I can truly live my life to the fullest knowing that the looming threat of death isn't really that threatening. I can focus on my time here, other than when I die. Thank you Hitch for putting life into perspective for me. You will never be forgotten, and I no longer fear the day that I get to embrace everlasting content with you in the heavenless abyss of reality.
Fear does not change the fact we die, it changes how we live. Those who believe in another life take away from this 1 life we all know we have.
Beautifully said.
Very beautifully said indeed.
Christopher Hitchens was an eloquent speaker.
Without an equal. Many will try, but none will reach the level he did
There will never be another Christopher Hitchens, but we are lucky to have had him.
A great man who I respected deeply

I truly miss this man.

For those that have come her to preach about their belief in god, I have a question. Which of the roughly 4000 currently practiced religions did your god tell you was the true one?
One business..... many franchises. What's the contradiction?
Michael Dewey SEO Videography
Not really.
