Instead of removing the skirt, you could pull them under and staple them to the frame. Then trim to size. That way they will look more finished and you won’t have waste time pulling the skirt a d staples off.
Not thrilled with the fact that after ripping the skirt off the chair, the bottom does not look finished. I would think twice about paying over $200 for a chair in that condition.
To each his own. Good for you discovering that vintage velvet chairs are a quick flip money maker. Personally, though the skirts may be dated, I prefer to see a skirt than the crushed velvet, non-faded color contrast and exposed staples.
I have had a lot of success removing the cushion cover, washing it in the washer on gentle cycle in cold water. The secret is to put the cover back on wet. It's easy and cleans the cushion really well. Love your channel I watch it every week. Keep up the great content.
I’ve done the same thing. I had some chairs and actually my dofa too. They zipped off. Washed them put them back on while still damp. I only do it in the summer months so it can sit them outside in the shade. That way the sun doesn’t lighten them. It’s usually too cold and snowy where I live.
I really liked the darker green ones! I had to chuckle a bit! The orange ones reminded me of 2 that my husband and I bought new furniture when we got married in 1977. We got a sofa, traditional style that had orange florals in it on like a cream colored background! This was our “formal living room “! We also got traditional style end tables and lamps! I would nurse our babies in there through the night and it was such a cozy and comfortable space! I had to share my story! ❤
Me too! Nursing in the chair with feet up against the end table, rocking away the night. My velvet rocker was hideous and we were hippies so it was covered in a Mexican blanket.
I think it’s so wonderful that you are saving these from the landfill and also giving ppl an opportunity to buy a chair that is second hand but in still great shape at a price point that they can afford. ❤
You inspire me! We purchased a nearly two hundred year-old Home full of furniture. We have been blessed with two of these velvet beauties. I have had great luck cutting a portion of the bottom of the skirt and stapling the fabric to the underside. The chair looks beautifully finished with the piping intact. There is never a line of demarcation or color difference. I never tear off a skirt. The chair just looks unfinished or the color change is too obvious.
Love that method! I noticed there were bits of material on some of the chairs in the video that hung down, rather than be re-stapled to the under-bottom of the chair. That and the demarcation line you mentioned took me back ever so slightly. Really like your idea.

I have two light blue velvet chairs. I was thinking of cleaning the dust. Sticky rollers work great up to a point, before using upholstery/ water extractor machine.
Im binging your yt channel in order but wanted to skip ahead to ask: do you have concerns about bed bugs in the velvet chairs? Im in GA, so maybe bugs are a bigger concern in hot weather? But i found one of these chairs right away (pale green) but couldnt bring myself to buy it. I love your channel!!!
I bought two more antique looking chairs on Craigslist with beautiful beige and gray striped upholstery (subtle) with a high leg (no skirt) . I paid $175.00 per chair and it was well worth it. I have the same upholstery cleaning machine and will be trying it out on them. I had a vintage sofa reupholstered with a beige silk look commercial fabric that had a slight pearlized sheen-it is gorgeous . It looked weird because the legs were dark brown. I used Gilder’s wax in a gold/ silver combo applied with a finger to make it look like it was wearing off with age. I’ll have to use a clear coat over the wax at some point to protect it from wear.
Sorry to say I don’t really see the draw of velvet chairs. Maybe it’s a local taste? In any case, Lauren does an awesome job of rehabbing them and improving their appearance. Go green!!
The edge looked unfinished on that blue swivel chair you sold for $220. After ripping off the skirts, do you make sure the raw edges are stapled back down for a clean look? same thing on the green chair you stored for your friend in Omaha. The edge in front is hanging down
Congratulations on a successful flip. I loved the leather chair. If you get one similar in the future think about touching up the legs and pricing it higher. You will definitely get full ask. And it was not too dated.
I definitely thought about it but that would’ve been just that much more work and cost to get the supplies to touch up. That’s definitely a route one can take but for a quick 15 minute clean - the profit and turnaround is the name of the game for my specific strategy. Thanks for watching 😊
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher I'd think one bottle of a matching brown acrylic craft paint wouldn't have thrown your budget or time off that much because they dry quickly. Consider the time saved as there was no skirt to be ripped.

Hii I loved your videos! I’m a secondhand furniture seller so I’m seriously thinking of starting flip furniture … 😊😊😊😊
In the video if the aqua youre holding for your friend until August, it looked like you need to reattach the upholstery fabric under the front of the chair. Looked as if about 12" was loose.
I'm going to try this, once we clean out garage. We need to clean a leather couch I got for free. I love the blue green color, hubby hates it, its ok, it's for my bonus room maybe or the garage to sit in for fun. Or I will clean it up , sell it for a profit, we will see.
I'm wonder about the line on the bottom when the skirt is removed. How to hide it. I wouldnt pay for a chair with the visible line. Obviously it doesn't bother everyone.
I cannot unsee the unfinishedness of the bottoms of the chairs.
Instead of removing the skirt, you could pull them under and staple them to the frame. Then trim to size. That way they will look more finished and you won’t have waste time pulling the skirt a d staples off.
Yes, this is what I have been talking about. I like the idea Wanda Koltnow had of tucking and trimming the skirt.

I agree. I have a hard time believing ppl pay that much for a chair that looks damaged at the bottom, but that’s just me.

I really like the darker green chair. That was my favorite.
You r such a hard worker I love ur videos thank u❤️
The first blue chair had hand tied springs. This is quality construction and should demand higher prices .
Double welting. You can make your own with fabric store cording and material.
The back cushion of that blue chair you are first working on looks like it has a happy face, lol
Go green!!
If your channel is as helpful to the country as has been the popular "house flipping" videos have been, I just can't imagine where we can go wrong!
Actually, just a bottle of Old English can work wonders. That or some lemon oil.
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher I'd think one bottle of a matching brown acrylic craft paint wouldn't have thrown your budget or time off that much because they dry quickly. Consider the time saved as there was no skirt to be ripped.
23:50 that state of that aqua one at the bottom.
I actually want the chair that you are sitting in! The color is what I need!
Hi, just stumbled upon your video, I loved it, I'm subscribing. Curious as to what detergent you used in your shampooer?
Neiman is a great partner. You two suit each other beautifully and I know that you both count your blessings in each other. Hopefully I spelled his name right, y'all look good together!
Hii
I loved your videos!
I’m a secondhand furniture seller so I’m seriously thinking of starting flip furniture …
😊😊😊😊
The color of your favorite one of these matches the color of your shirt! 😄
I love watching your videos. I’m seriously been thinking of giving it a try. 😊
In the video if the aqua youre holding for your friend until August, it looked like you need to reattach the upholstery fabric under the front of the chair. Looked as if about 12" was loose.
that was how its made, not hanging loose but covering the wood that the base is attached to (:
I'm going to try this, once we clean out garage. We need to clean a leather couch I got for free. I love the blue green color, hubby hates it, its ok, it's for my bonus room maybe or the garage to sit in for fun. Or I will clean it up , sell it for a profit, we will see.
Your video’s are fantastic ❤
I would have bought the leather chair in a heartbeat!
I thought I was subscribed. Love watching your flips
I'm wonder about the line on the bottom when the skirt is removed. How to hide it. I wouldnt pay for a chair with the visible line. Obviously it doesn't bother everyone.
Love the 3 Laurens!
Why take the skirts off? Now you can see the wood and mechanics under them?
Where are you located and how do you handle selling, shipping, etc, ?
I love velvet anything!
I'm trying to sell some large furniture. Do you have some advice on where to sell outside of FB marketplace? I'm not having much luck with FB
That's great. Am learning so much. Thank you
Shouldn't the bottom hem area be finished/taped up or something rather than leaving a ragged bottom?
