This is my shit! I'm glad they're using Louisa's voice more, she has a beautiful voice that for some reason completely fits the atmosphere of the song.
Camelworks Yeah, i just love how fucking dark and evil this song is.. Love those types of vibes done right in songs, reminds me of some oceano songs and what not.
It's impossible to say exactly what it is, but somehow MTS has an incredible knack for writing the lyrical phrases that get the most lodged in your head. That final "Everybody wants a piece of me" and "Please please please beat me to pieces" keep me coming back to this song.
@@Figure8Sniping dude I just saw them perform this song a few weeks ago and others as well and you are right, shit is layered, but he sounds the same and it is still mad powerful.
Very good. His highs are very layered in the mix. He doesn't sound like that live. Great singer though. I suppose that can be said about almost all vocalists
Here we have a band not being tied down by one sound. We had the metalcore "Let Me In", the signature sound with "Requiem", and now weve got some djenty experimentation with this song. I love the variety.
Jessica Bowen and I'm really happy about that. Their last album sort of all blended together in my opinion, especially towards the tail-end. This sounds like it will be much more diverse. All three songs have been killer.
This song is the only thing keeping me sane right now. The lyrics explain so much and I relate to a lot of it. Thank you for your amazing expression MTS
saiyanlineage ATTOJ There's just nothing about the songs they've released that really impress me personally. I enjoy it, but I still prefer Neverbloom until they release the album.
OLD SOULS EXPLAINED: This is not for everyone, rather for those who may be wanting a little something extra from our new album "Old Souls". This album is no where near as descriptive or painterly as Neverbloom was. However, there is an underlying story and it's best followed backwards, from finish to start: Starting from the final track (11), we see in the music video our protagonist being torn from his wife to go to war, he witnesses his best friend be killed and this changes him. He starts seeing a haunting and dark character follow him everywhere he goes. This character is the "Lord of Woe", but his appearance is to be taken in a symbolic sense. he represents the black dog over our protagonists shoulder, the darkness in his life, or just a shadow. At the very end of this music video we see that from witnessing his friend die in war, he has developed a drinking problem. Skip forward two songs to track 8 "Scraping The Barrel" and the lyrics go further into depth about the deep sadness he feels, and that by drinking more, he is "patching" "plugging" and "drying" the holes from which his happiness is escaping him. Finishing the song up with the lyric "Bottoms up, another one down the hatch". Forward another song to track 7, "Blood Moon" and our protagonist is suffering from mental illness (probably to do with shell-shock and alcohol abuse). The lyrics of this song go back and forth between depressed and destructive, as if there were two devils dancing on either side of the protagonists shoulder, until it's revealed at the end of the song in the lyrics that he has schizophrenia. Track 6 is the turning point on the album and is called "Through the looking glass". It's a time for self reflection. Our protagonist literally looks at himself in the mirror and realises what he has to do, as the whispers of insanity slowly leave him. His call to action after this (Threads, track 5) is to give in and surrender, ridding himself of all his material possessions and even his body as he believes his time on earth is done. "Take the weight of my bones, take the pictures and pieces I own. Take away this frame, pick my tissue to threads." Track 4 (Let Me In): It's time for our protagonist to follow through with his call to action, his time on this earth is done. He can no longer live with the deep void he feels from his alcohol abuse. From the scars left from watching his best friend die, and living with the fact that he abuses his wife (see music video for reference). He then comes home one night with a bottle of scotch and apologises to his wife "Annie" in the form of a note, before blowing his brains out. Track 2 Requiem is exactly what it sounds like, it's our protagonists send-off, a lament for the dead, an elegy even tongue emoticon. He has passed away, although he won't be forgotten. "Through my buried bones, my song lives on" - Perhaps HE will haunt Make Them Suffer's NEXT album. Track 1 is the most integral piece of the puzzle. It ties together the entire album. The first line of this "Old friend, let's start again" are the words of our deceased protagonist (his song lives on), pleading with Annie to start it all over again. The next lyric "Try not to spoil the end" is ironic because the line that follows; "It's been so long", does actually spoil the ending of the album - as that is also the very last lyric on the album. Bringing the entire album story full circle. Having this story unfold the way it did on the album was in no way intentional, it just came together that way. Everyone has a story to tell, and if they can dig deep enough to truly learn about themselves, it might just be one worth hearing! Thanks to all the fans for supporting this band through thick and thin, I hope you all enjoyed listening to the album as much as we enjoyed writing it. - Sean Harmanis
For Blood Moon, it's describing PTSD in the protagonist, specifically the symptoms of mood shifts between a depressive state and a self-destructive state. Unfortunately these symptoms are all too common with combat vets, especially the ones that have witnessed death in person. Another extremely common symptom of PTSD is substance abuse. With alcohol abuse and PTSD it is not unlikely to see an abusive nature emerge due to unresolved trauma (unfortunately, also a common circumstance with untreated PTSD). It's incredible how well they portrayed this story and embued emotion the emotions of the characters into the lyrics and song
I think this was the first song I heard by them . Still holds up 2 years later. This band is just amazing man. They don't do anything special really but what they do they do damn well.
+Vivid Necco you should listen to signs of the swarm - mouth sewn prophets, if that single scream frightened you then this will make you shit yor pants :D
+Justin Dittburner Ah, I've listened to Neverbloom so many times! :) I just think the intensity of the song and the video is what made it happen. it's so badass!
I was so lucky to see them live at a small club in my hometown, twice!!! The second time my neck was so sore I couldnt even move my head for like two weeks. lol
Just saw these guys on tour with Silent Planet, ERRA, and August Burns Red. Not only was it an absolutely amazing show, but these guys were incredible live, and it really made me a huge fan from the first song they played. I don't know how I had missed these guys before then.
Holy crap. This is so brutal and raw.. and the video is sooo visually appealing. Gonna download this album now. I'm digging the female vocal bonus as well. What genre is this album? Deathcore? Metalcore?
+ライフファゴットを取得します。 There are several black metal bands that do not have Satanic imagery or lyric. Black metal is more the atmosphere, of course having particular traits. And agreeing with you on that this band has no black metal traits whatsoever.
+Nick Udovich Imagine how awesome 'Blackened, melodic, symphonic, electronic deathcore' would be... (Basically, picture Make Them Suffer doing a whole album with The Browning.)
+Hansol This is some pretty solid metalcore. I think a lot of people get this confused with djent since the hear "abnormal and different" riffage. People use the term "djent" wayyy too liberally nowadays. If you take a look at like darkest hour or even old august burns red, I think you'll be able to hear a lot of similarities. You could argue there's some deathcore sounding stuff incorporated in here as well. But's that's as far as I'd really stretch it. In my opinion at least.
Props to Sean for being able to sing in a straight jacket. Having your arms constricting your diaphragm must make screaming all that more difficult. Sure it's a music video, but still.
this is a truly talented band. This song is like their old style, "Requiem" and "let me in" are where they are going with the new sound. So ultimately pleasing the old fans with new, yet familiar sounds on this new album. I think is the best way to go, more like a gradual transition rather than a leap into a whole other genre.
I have yet to be dissapointed! I love how diverse this is getting between the 3 songs. I am itching for more lows though. There is one song I am looking forward to in particular that was teased back with the studio updates. The one with Louisa shredding on the piano behind a breakdown sounds like a beast waiting to be released. Definitely looking forward to the new album!

I have to be honest, not sure if any albums this year will top this and VOM's Matriarch. Other then TAIM and Lorna Shore, which im sure will come close.
Smithysmithin I hadn't been a fan of Veil of Maya until I stumbled upon Matriarch. One of the better releases this year, definitely. Not big on Lorna Shore, the vocals are different and it's throwing me off. Only albums I think will contend with Old Souls are Odyssey to the West (Slice The Cake) & The God Delusion (A Night In Texas). Maybe Holy War, but who knows.

Prefer the Blackened Deathcore style like Requiem or Neverbloom over this. The mindless chugging gets annoying after a while.. But once the keyboard kicks in im getting goosebumps all over.
It's good but it sounds like it's, missing something? I dunno man. I liked requiem better I think. Still a cool song though Can't wait for the fucking album \m/ edit: I know what it is, it sounds kinda "djenty", none of their other songs are as djenty as this one.
You guys killed Unify with this song! This was easily the best song during the whole festival! Whoever EQ'd your set did an amazing job. I really enjoyed the keys and her voice a lot louder!
I found this band by accident. Best accident since myself.

I’m obsessed with this song 😫♥️
It's good but it sounds like it's, missing something? I dunno man. I liked requiem better I think. Still a cool song though
Can't wait for the fucking album \m/
edit: I know what it is, it sounds kinda "djenty", none of their other songs are as djenty as this one.
AyZeD i thought same there's no black metal influences in this song
Also too much high screams and not enough lows. I hope they don't turn into IKTPQ or some generic shit like that.
i hope for more stuff like requiem
Same. Requiem was more like classic MTS than this and let me in were.
I can't wait for another month. I'm really hoping Old Souls will be a great album. Sean is one of my favorites metal vocalists.
where is the person who comment the lyrics at?
go to google and search the lyrics, copy and paste into the comment section and you can be that person
mmmm nah, my attention seeking skill isn't high enough.
lol okay
+Snibm S lazy
The lyrics are in the description of the video.
love his vocals
Uche Ulebor Yup, it's only missing the best element of his vocals...
*cough cough* Bloodborne moonside lake *cough cough*
I love this band so much.
Forgive me for the flashbacks of our scene days, but does this video resemble Knives and Pens? At least a little bit?
... Get out... Just get out of here
Chill son
rosie bush no
rosie bush -remembers my scene days and goes for the razor because only death will know peace from that crime-
rosie bush the black and white scenes reminded me of The Crimson by Atreyu.
Yoo the screamer sounds amazing. Glad to see his full potential showing
Does this song remind anyone else of bloodborne?
You guys killed Unify with this song! This was easily the best song during the whole festival! Whoever EQ'd your set did an amazing job. I really enjoyed the keys and her voice a lot louder!
The screams remind me a lot of The Word Alive if he was a stronger screamer
***** Alright! I can see that. :)
***** Oh trust me bro. I definitely will. These guys are great. I have only heard this song so far.
Man this takes me back! Glad they’re still killin it
