We are still looking for the retirement boat. have viewed you guy you tube before, but now will watch them all because we are supporters of Parleyrevival. you guys were very kind to him. This is what life should be about. you made a great repair on a great boat.
Colin’s spirit cannot be crushed. Not many people are willing to put as much hard, itchy, cramped work into a boat as he is. His channel is well worth watching
Parlay and Colin are making the rounds on several sailing channels lately. 👍With so much going on in the world these days, it is great the way you support each other.♥ Linton Bay Marina has been a supportive refuge for many. A big shout out for their hospitality.🥂Merry Christmas to all. 🎅🌴
Great to see some throw back footage of Panama! And sad story from some sailing friends. Glad it was close to land when it happened and able to get to the repairs! Wow what a story!
Thank you once again to the both of you for educating us. Both those bits of kit in your shaft seem like outstanding additions. Interesting to see the nuances of a shaft drive. Kind regards James and Eva and Elbe.
I love you guys, tremendous effort by you to guide. Happy Christmas to you by the core of my heart. (Parley & Colin, May Almighty God shower HIS blessings upon you always, Amen).
Colin also has a video of him replacing that same propeller shaft seal on a super yacht in water. Pretty handy to have a new seal already on the shaft.
We like the way you are documenting your sailing life and the cool you keep doing it . Maybe we will have the pleasure to meet in real life as We are heading to Panama and the Pacific with our catamaran.
Clever to have a spare gasket on the shaft ready to go. What's the hose going to the seal? To flush salt water out for storage? Anyway nice to see you sailing again.
I've seen several of the PSS dripless shaft seals, haven't seen one from Tides Marine yet. I like the idea of the having the spare seal already on the shaft, replacing in water if necessary. That's a pretty convincing endorsement, I'd love to try one.
Merry Christmas to Paul and Sheryl from Sheryl and Paul. That seal looks so much better than our dripless we had on our sail boat. May have to look into it for the trawler when the time comes. Thanks for sharing.
The shaft is about 2' underwater so we'd need more than 3' or so of tidal range to dry out and get the shaft up out of the water. I did this once on a beach in the UK (with 10' tide range that day) to change the propeller. All went well until I realized I was missing a needed wrench... very fast run to the hardware store in town to get it done before the tide came back in :-)
I see you didn’t use the red plastic Hat installation tool, when fitting the new Tides lipe seal. You normally get then with seals. Great to see how easy it is to do.
So, I've been doing some mental math, and think that I'm smart in looking for a shaft driven propeller system when choosing a blue water boat. I was surprised at how little water you took on while replacing your 'stuffing box' seal- I expected much more? I must be somewhat correct in guessing that a sealed driveshaft has much less of chance of sinking a boat that a sail drive unit- not to mention the 1/2shafts and bevelled gearing to change thrust direction. I am very curious about the designed hull in process in Holland? Is that project a go for Distant Shores, or- is it still in the design phase? I'm exceptionally curious about aluminum built boats over say 50 feet? I hope that the project is till going to happen! Any news would be great. Thanks in advance.
Any boat with a shaft drive should work. It replaces the more traditional stuffing box. Let us know if you try it! Also as Stuart W says down below you can also try the modern packing in the old box...
@@billhanna8838 Agree, for an older boat, the Volvo seal is probably the best choice. Inexpensive, but simple and works well. Have to haul out and pull the shaft to replace it, but a recreational boat may only have to do that once in 15 years.
Wonderful to see you pair living your life not what others think your life should be

Nice to see two of my favorite sailing RUclipsrs on one video!

Merry Christmas to you as well. Indeed Linton Bay were super hospitable! Also so was Shelter Bay where we spent many months in the last year! Love!
Merry Christmas!! Love you guys! Thanks for another great video. You are definitely the OG of sailing videos!
Parlay, they truly are global. Merry Christmas all. 🎅
Happy New Year - hope you get a lot of sailing completed in 2022 and stay safe !
I love how calm you were with water gushing in the back of the boat! Merry Christmas to you Cheryl and Paul!

Enjoyed watching! Merry Christmas Paul and Sheryl 🌲
Been there for a few years now. Great group of people and staff! Will be back in late January. Perhaps we’ll run into you guys. 👍⛵️
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Sheryl and Paul. 🎄🍾🥂🇨🇦

Very brave to change the seal while water was coming in, had my heart racing
So that’s why all these sailing channels are in Panama this time of year. It’s a insurance thing. Thanks for explaining.
Merry Christmas to Paul and Sheryl and to everybody out there, may you all be blessed with God’s grace today and in the New Year. Happy sailing!!!

Merry Christmas!
I prefer the old school stuffing box. Drips do not hurt and no such thing as an emergency hall out. KISS!
Great video... gotta watch again to get the name of those parts!!
Those seals look exactly like the crankshaft seals I put on aircraft piston engines, they're normally just glued in on aircraft though
Great information. Thank you

Always great!
Still working through your DVD package. With Covid around it is really one of the only ways to see those destinations!
Awesome Video, Merry Christmas Guys
Just curious, with the ability to beach your boat, why not beach it and then change the seal?

... Cheers ... ... Cheers ...
Thanks- Looking forward to your next video. What happened to your Ultra? I thought you loved it.
Safe travels
Are you sure you proper seated that shaft seal? Will the seal cap seat the seal as you tighten it down? Just currious.
Wonder of that bulkhead failure was due to the hurricane or issues with Lagoon bulkheads I've seen talked about..?

Would there be play in the bearing itself to to make the seal leak ??? And merry Christmas to:)
i would have more than one seal as a backup :-)
👍👍👍👍👍
If you had a standard stuffing box with PTFE gore stuffing, you won't have a problem with dripping water since it is self lubricatingl.
@stuart warren where did you get your
This must be a real old video as parley is nearly ready to go back into the water.
Paul, on the new shaft seal, no grease/oil? This seems odd to me.........
Would drip less system work for older sailboat in like 1973

What the brand you use
I have a 1978 North American 40 with a traditional stuffing box. Each hail out I have it serviced and I like that it can be adjusted under way.
Volvo shaft seal is probably the cheapest & very good for an older boat

Is that Catamaran a Catana ?
Buff Matterhorn?)
I don’t think I’d sand the shaft.
I should have mentioned it was in the instructions for the installation. Its meant to smooth off any scuffs or whatever with 320 grit
Rather cheap title for the video.
More regurgitating the facts that a hurricane damaged boat is NOT A GOOD DEAL! SHOULD HAVE BEEN DESTROYED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY.
Clickbait!
But thanks for sharing!
All the best!
