I love Solomon's Seal and Christmas Fern in dry shade. I also added a white dicentra called Amore Titanium and it has been amazing. The ferny, blue-grey foliage is gorgeous, it's stayed fresh even in brutal summer heat, and it's had flowers all summer. 💚💚💚
youtube recommendations stay winning lol, this video is great! commenting also so i don't lose track of the channel, definitely gonna be checking a bunch of other videos soon
@@PrettyPurpleDoor I'm south of you, In the Philly suburbs. It's almost always humid here, so your dry shade may actually be drier than mine if that makes any sense.
Thanks Amy. I am trying to establish a fern garden in a natural area in my yard that has a gumball trees. I noticed the ferns I planted thus far disappear in the winter and reemerge in the spring. I water with sprinklers and also with hose because I know they like it moist. Is there anything else I can do to encourage their growth, e.g. fertilizer??
Can you address a riprap swale. We have one about 5 years old and it’s 35’ long going downhill. Instead of putting on chemicals we let it go this year and it’s a mess. Full sun, hot and dry except when it rains. I’m in NC 7b. Thanks! 🌻

Thanks for sharing!!
what zone are you in?
@@CuriousinNY Zone 8a in North Carolina.
Two favorites for dry shade in zones 5-9: wild bleeding heart, or Dicentra eximia, and Periwinkle, or Vinca. Get them going and you've got them!

Thank you for sharing! I needed this so much!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
In my experience, Japanese Forest Grass also does well in dry shade.
Good to know. Definitely does not work for me, though!

So you have not dry shade... Just shade 😅? I'm teasing you.
Ultra useful video.❤❤❤
great show thanks
Pretty basic, but yews and established hostas work well for me.
Yes, hostas are great once established aren't they!

Not all ferns are evergreen so that's very normal that they die back in winter
