What kind of breed are your chickens? Have to get myself chickens again...... hard to be without. Very nice explained your whole incubator build and set up. Are looking forward to see what happens the next few weeks.
Thanks Andrew, That means a lot to me. All we need to hope now is the eggs were fertile but we find that out in a few days when I candle them.. Do you keep poultry?
Not sure why you would remove the tray, assuming your talking about the water trays, they help the humidity . I have never moved those and always got a good hatch rate. I just stopped turning them about 4 days till hatch.
No Fishmut. not the water trays you need them for the humidity. I was talking about the egg turning tray, you need to remove this so they can not be rotated for last three days and so the chicks can move around unhindered when they hatch
Years ago I bid on a setup very similar to this on eBay, what I got was a white box, tiny, a fan in the top, a little window .....and nothing else lol. When I complained to seller they were no longer on line. The pictures were of a totally different brooder, lol how thick am I. Can't wait to see how you do Tony, looks impressive :-)
Oh Anne I am sorry someone did that to you. Build your own its quite easy. Here is a video of chicks hatching from the last batch i did a few years ago. Infact if you see the am i giving up poultry video the cockerel or rooster as some call them in there is the bird that actually hatches ruclips.net/video/lIjATkstuvs/видео.html
Does it work if I don't get the timer kit in this type of egg turner ? I mean that if the speed of egg's turning be slowly , so could it works in homemade incubator without the timer kit for the motor of this type egg turner... Please answer me if you know ... Thank you so much guys
Marrie here is a link of when I last hatched eggs in the incubator and caught a little chick hatching out. Maybe worth a watch to prepare yourself :) ruclips.net/video/lIjATkstuvs/видео.html
Great video thank you. I am waiting for a dozen Plymouth Rock eggs so need to crack on any get my incubator made. Is the ceramic block heater / fan arrangement available off the shelf or do you have to by the components separately?
@@simplifygardening Thanks mate. I viewed your previous video and the label there was visible. For everyone who is looking for this motor its an AC synchronous (CW/CCW) 4Watt motor like the ones in the microwaves turning the plates. I am building myself a DIY egg turner, and I am using a DC motor with a reduction gears. Thanks again :)
A really useful piece of kit to build. Do you spray the eggs a few days before hatching to soften the shell? In my younger days I used to breed canaries and that is something I would do, together with fitting a birdbath for the hen to dampen her feathers. Do you remove the chicks ASAP when they hatch, into an incubator? Would it be possible to set up a time lapse on the hatching date? Nice one mate 😀👍🐥🐥🐥🐥
My grandad kept chickens, but was a very sparse set up including an old clean mop head to mimic the mother hen and an infra red lamp.I like the idea of a timelapse set up.
Hiya mate. I dont need to spray the eggs closer to the day due to the humidity being raised to around 90%. I have a video of eggs hatching in this incubator here from a few years ago. ruclips.net/video/lIjATkstuvs/видео.html I will set up a camera, but dont have a timelapse and my camera keeps shutting off after around 15 mins
ruclips.net/video/lIjATkstuvs/видео.html check this out Tracy if you want to see them hatching a few years ago. Wayne got a little excited in the video
No because there is no hole the controller and fan block it and there is a plate that seals it off, it does not draw air from outside only moves the air around in the container
Polystyrene box, a sheet of 1/8th ply, clock motor, a timing circuit, incubationwarehouse.com heating element. Some glass and a few screws. bolt it all together job done
Im down to just 12 hens atm and one rooster. who has never been tested so I wont know if he is doing anything until day 10. this rooster is not proven as he came from our last hatching and we moved our old one on
FYI, chickens is either sex / both sexes, adults; chicks is unsexed fluffies, both sexes, before feathering. POULTS are young hens, either too young to lay yet, or who don't yet lay full-size eggs. [Pullet egg = the 1st few eggs laid by a young hen, they can be 1/3 to 1/2 the size of a mature-size egg.] Typically, U hatch about 50% each sex, so U always have many-more Ms than U need; separating Ms from Fs & even desexing the Ms to reduce aggression & increase growth, is a good idea. Ms will pester hens year-round, & will fight with one another; U can't have more than 1 sexually-mature cock bird, they'll beat the tar out of each other, & upset the whole flock. All that fighting & aggro disturbs everyone. Desexed Ms / testes removed are called CAPONS. They won't tread the hens constantly, nor will they fight one another incessantly. Much calmer birds.
Wish I had the time. with making two episodes a week and editing those, doing my garden having family time running the bees and poultry and a full time job, just couldnt manage it.. However, make one yourself. I will be happy to guide you through it. Are you looking to get more poultry?
Cross breeding is fine Tony but inbreeding is a bit dodgy. They say that when it goes right it is called line breeding when it does’t it is inbreeding. One of my best crossbreeds is a cuckoo marans x buff Plymouth rock. The cocks are born white so I can dispose of them after hatching.

Wow! Great job man. I'm a young guy and this is quite inspiring. Way to use ingenuity to get things done!
Great video and explanations, thank you. Can you please share the dimensions for the egg tray and the box?

Love your informative video . Thank you for keeping my interest.

With the hole for the fan, do you have a hard time keeping your humidity and temp at the right setting?
No because there is no hole the controller and fan block it and there is a plate that seals it off, it does not draw air from outside only moves the air around in the container
Urgent what is spacing distance between the bamboos?
they are different i use three i get small eggs and large and medium and use them to space the bamboo
Nice designing work!
Hey. Thanks 😁
I was more interested in the camera setups :-)
You can sometimes get a nice little bit of information from a video that you may not have expected.

Is the 2 blueish eggs chicken eggs aswell? Never seen chicken eggs with that colour before.. (Not that ive seen SO many :p)

Your fan/heater setup you said the fan was from a computer what are your heating elements please
There is a circuit board which runs 4 x ceramic heat blocks that surround the fan the heat is created the fan moves it around the incubator
Do you still have the ducks at your old allotment
Yes we have two left but will be sorting that this year now we know whats happening at the site

What were the results of the hatch?
The hatch rate for the eggs that were fertile was 100% however 12 of the 30 eggs i put in were not fertile when candled
