You should not put grease on the upper bearing, it is lubricated by the gearlube in the lower unit. It is easier to put the impeller on the drive shaft, use light grease in the upper housing, slide it over the drive shaft and hold down light pressure and turn driveshaft clockwise.

thanks for posting, I am getting low pressure from the water pump, I didnt see that rubber thing that goes over the water pump on the drive shaft, and I didnt get one from the kit. Do you think that could be an issue or can I go without it. Also the new water pump casings seem to be too small and they dont fit properly. did you have that issue?
Thanks for watching my video and your kind comment! First, do you have the EXACT same engine as mine? If yes, you cannot do without parts. go to marinengine.com and put your engine serial number in. It will tell you the parts you need. You should have replaced all parts with exact same ones. If you WP casing doesn't fit, something is definitely wrong and could be the reason for low output. If it doesn't fit right, it could knock off WP fins which also could be your problem. Might be time to go to an outboard mechanic. You may like my other videos. It appears that the water tube is 180 degrees out of where it should be when you removed it. Could this be why some folks are having a hard time reinstalling? The water tube connection is approximately 2 inches from the drive shaft in the motor but you show it right next to the drive shaft. Can you confirm yours is in the right position? Are there differences between motors?

Thanks for watching my video! I assume that you have the EXACT same motor? Whatever you do, DO NOT force it on!! Did you put the shifter in FULL FORWARD before you started the project? Did you mess with shifting shaft while doing the project? To make sure it is still in full forward, rotate the drive shaft in a CLOCKWISE direction. Does the propeller rotate in a FORWARD direction? If it doesn't rotate at all, it is in neutral. Also, many things need to happen at once when installing the bottom unit. (1) Need to be in forward, (2) the water cooling pipe needs to fit at the same time the drive shaft does, (3) the shifter shaft needs to go into the shifter on the lower uiit,(4) the unit needs to fit on the alignment nubs. Grease the top of the drive shaft and the shifter. Hope this helps. Best, The Sailor.
@@hack3outdoors342 If you are sure the lower unit is in forward, get a buddy to take the shifter and move it back and forth just enough for the splines to align. Hey Lsailor, Your video has a large issue. You show the sequence of the tow gaskets that sandwich the metal plate in the wrong order. First comes the the gasket with the two partial round cut outs. Then the metal plate, then the gasket with the large round hole for the impeller to ride on the wear plate. Please take down your video. I did it the way pictured in the video and no cooling water. Took it apart and noticed your error. You just cost me $100 and could have damaged my engine. Now I have to buy another kit to get the gasket. Waste of time. Had to take the lower unit off twice now.
