    not sure prof. Chalmers covered what the title is suggesting "AI and Consciousness". I liked the points that he presented about VR and how theaters and art are also VR.

    In order for the simulated reality to be true, I think each conscious entity - however many there are- must be grounded in something physical. Otherwise you would have to assume that a piece of software could be conscious. But- and this is big - you don't have to assume more than one - 1 - conscious entity.
    There are lots of ways to play off of this type of hypothesis, none of them any harder or easier to prove than that physical reality is not virtual.

    I think cinsciousness is pretty well understood in the yogic/buddhist society.

    I just realized Chalmers looks like that south park rendition of the hardy boys.

    I think that IF there were a creator of this universe... I' think it /he/she would be above being worshiped. I mean it would not want to be worshiped as a god. It would be beyond being feared and have it's ass kissed or demand a burnt offering.

      How would you know that? I think this is an illusion that you think you know. ur comment does not seem to be scientific. it seem that it is coming from atheistic background, but surely not evidence based.

      I am an atheist, but I think God would want an offering that the people were capable of.

    I understand Chalmers position, and it is reasonable to take. But I will say there is difference between an ordinary physical world and a simulated world. For all we know a simulated world is extremely precarious, prone to glitches and may be arbitrarily intervened. That makes it untasteful and not amenable to develop deep attachment or meaning.

    I wonder what Sam Harris would say about AI and Determinism.

    I don't think you can really believe in a computer simulation universe without believing in their being a God.

      What separates a god from a very advanced civilization? How would you know?
      C'mon. Back your claims up.

    tell me one thing he said in this talk that was in the remotest bit deep or interesting? all very obvious stuff. I hear deeper conversations between stoned 16 years olds, than this guy.

    We have a *Creator I have my Creator & my Jesus, which put all this in motion, and as a 'Parent' let us go to make up our Material world, and we are doing it, Our Creator didn't makeup VEGAS, we did. Our Creator didn't make up the F'n Catholic Church, we did. Our Creator didn't make up the USA, we did. Our Creator didn't make up the F'n Mormons we did. Our Creator didn't make up the Parkland School Shooting, we did. Is it making sense?
    Our Creator took off our training wheels just like every parent has to do with their *Children.
    My Jesus shows Y'all melting 'ROCK' coming out of a Mountain, and that's 'US', that's people 1 or 10 BILLION Years down the road having a Picnic with their family and a dog, and a cat, and a Table full of food, with peeps sitting around singing songs prior to the meal. Some peeps Believe what they believe. But make no mistake peeps, we went from Moulting 'ROCK' to Building a 100 story Sky-Penthouse sitting in the pool overlooking NYC at 3am with a Beautiful lady/guy enjoying some wine listening to great music. Do people understand just the miracle of that? Is it just me out here on my own Ayahuasca sauce? WT/F....and you still here *What Creator? Wow
    We make up our world.
    Lots of opinions of why we are here, I get that. But make no mistake Blokes, we 'Make-up' our own World. We 'Make' up our 'Little-Boy' and 'Fat-Man' our Creator gave us the materials to do a lot of things, we choose to make it up the way we did, Don't ever forget that peeps, so stop Blaming my Jesus, OKAY:-)

    My god, how is any of this interesting? These are all questions I posed when I was twelve. Western philosophers are so restricted, it's insane.

      And it's also so hard to listen to this guy with how often he stops and accelerates mid sentence.

      Great. So I’m guessing you solved the hard problem with consciousness since you trivialize this mans life work.

    • @quinxx12
      @quinxx12 6 лет назад

      Paul L The hard problem is intrinsically an unsolvable problem. It's a waste of time trying to solve it, it's a problem we made up.

    • @squamish4244
      @squamish4244 6 лет назад

      You have no idea if it's unsolvable. You just don't like the fact that we can't explain it.
