this video is 8y old but you remind me of my mom and how she lights her trees, it brings me comfort watching this because i miss her a lot and i can’t spend this season with her this year (she’s down south and i’m up north), so watching this felt like being home for a bit ❤
Thank you so much.. I did it and my 9 year old was excited about shoving the lights into the tree.My 16 yr old seemed to love this new technique as well, she didn’t complain at all. Thanks for sharing !
It would be lovely if you did a remake of this video! Showing close ups of how you’re actually putting the lights into the tree. And adding an explanation of what you mean be “thirds”. When you first said that in the video, I was thinking horizontal thirds, as there was no explanation. I finally got it about halfway through the video that you meant verticals thirds. Also, an explanation on the size of your tree and how many strands of lights it took to do would be helpful. All that said, it’s still a good video for the tip of thirds. I’m getting my first ever real tree this year, and I got it flocked!! So excited! Your tree looks beautiful.
Hi there...thanks for the constructive comment This video is really old and always does the rounds again every Christmas. While the visuals aren't the best, I think I do describe what I'm doing verbally. It is vertical thirds...but in those sections, I do weave them horizontally. Anyways, hope it was helpful in some way!
@@AmidstTheChaos I still don't understand I am doing my first tree and didn't hear any of the verbal except about the thirds and shove it in, and then it was music and bottom part and then next part but I still can't figure out what your doing with the lights once your putting the lights into the tree. It looks beautiful I wish I could understand. Do you have another video. Explaining In detail. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this video... I bought my first Christmas tree last year and used this video to help teach me to put the lights on and it came out beautiful. I tried to put my lights on my new tree yesterday and apparently I forgot the steps because it didn't look the same so I had to come watch it again. I was way off but thank God for this video. Merry Christmas.
You have SO MUCH CLASS!! reading through the comments on hear makes me wonder why people are soooooo rude!! I can see you handled some of the comments so well!! That makes you a truly beautiful person, inside and out!
You are so sweet...thank you so much! RUclips is such a wild place...it's the ONLY place I have received negative comments. My biggest community is actually over on my Instagram and never once have I had a nasty comment from a follower! Not sure why they are so many "keyboard warriors" over here...but I just try to shake it off and keep making content!
I usely use the 1/4 method to cut the tree in quarter section. Also I tie ribbon on the tips at the top and bottom to help with visualization. Great video by the way Merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you for posting and trying to help all of us create a stunning tree. If we could see how you were actually layering or placing the lights, maybe a close up of what you are actually doing with the lights that would be very helpful. (half of the time you are almost behind the tree and I can't see anything that you're doing with the lights.) Are you weaving the lights from the inner branches and coming forward then back again? How tall is your tree and how many lights did you use per section? Do you start each section from the bottom or do you start the next section where you left off at the top? Thanks again, I hope I didn't come across as bitchy. 👏😀
Hi Anna, thanks for your comment. First, this was one of the very first videos I ever made for RUclips and I had NO idea what I was doing when it came to filming. I recognize the quality is poor and as the camera was set up on a tripod, there are no close-ups. That being said, I do verbally explain what I'm doing throughout the video. I do start at the back of the branch and weave it to the front of each layer of branches. I started at the bottom of the first section, wove it up and then worked my way down the second section and then back up the third section. I'm not exactly sure how many lights I used per section, but a good guide would be to allowed for two strands per section, depending on how many lights you want. This video got a lot of views this year and so I will try and film a better tutorial next Christmas! Thanks for stopping by and best of luck decorating your tree!
Thank you very much for replying. I realized after watching more of your videos that this was an older video and you were new at it. So congrats on all the views and I hope your subscribers are growing. It is def refreshing to watch someone that is not fake and full of themselves. I did my lights like you said and it was so much easier. My son helped by reaching the top of the tree for me and he agreed next year he'll do his tree this way too. My tree was also pre-lit. I should of tried to string the lights so that when I take the tree down I can leave the lights where they are and still separate the tree in three sections. Any tips on that.
Thank you Anna. Ya, my channel has grown significantly within the last three months, which is really exciting! So I'm trying to step up my filming/editing game and learning with each video! Glad to hear the tips ended up being helpful! It so much better than going round and round the tree. Our other tree is also pre-lit and we add in more lights. I don't keep them on though, once I take down the tree. They came off so easy because of this method, so I just take them off, coil them up and start again fresh the next year!
I have ocd so I need those lights wrapped around so I have my little nephews help out going around the tree and I’m fixing it as they go lol 😂 but awesome alternative. ☺️
a trick i learned was to use LED lights and wrap them around your arm (as you would a length of cord/string/rope)and then start from the top of the tree. This is good for a 6 or 7 meter tree that requires anything between 300-400 lights. There was very little entanglement & frustration doing it this way. Whatever you do, it'll take take time and over the years it does get easier.
I don't just love you video but you as person.like that you are not dressing like super star.and you just showing what we wanted to see thanks for sharing.2018
Thank you. I would do this if I were lighting an outside tree. In your close up, I can see a lot of exposed wiring. I could not be happy with that. For my indoor tree, I will keep doing the lights the very hard way. But since I will leave the lights on the tree when stored, I will have to suffer only once. My artificial tree comes apart in two sections so I light each section separately. All the branches are hinged to the tree trunk like the spines of an umbrella. I string one branch at a time, starting at the base of the branch, out to the tip, and then back to the base. Repeat for each branch. When I move to the next row of branches, I wrap the wire once around the trunk. I wrap the wire snugly around the center of each branch. I use a clip near the tip of each branch because the wire is doubled back upon itself. At the tip, you shape the wire into a narrow loop to avoid wire damage. The flexible plastic clip is barely visible. It is shaped like a tiny green horseshoe, just large enough to hold the branch and the wires. When I run out of clips I use floral wire at the branch tips. My lights connect end to end. With extra fussing, the connectors can be hidden at the base of a branch. When I'm done, no wiring is hanging loose in the air and each branch can move separately for storage.
I have to say that is a freaking beautiful tree cuz I would have never thought to go up and down instead of all the way around and I am so tired of rapping lights around a tree so this is awesome and that tree looks so full thank you for your life hack
OMG! You just made my day. I love lots of lights on my tree and was dreading the lighting process. I will definitely be using this method this year. Thanks so much for sharing.
I'm not sure I can thank you enough! I just used this technique to put the lights on my tree and it was so much easier (and less dizzying!) THANK YOU for taking the time to share it!
No! And the reason you've never heard of this method is because it's NOT the easiest way. And if you have a artificial tree that comes in 3 sections, you can lights each section thereby making it so my easier when you put your tree up the next year. Lighting your tree is not rocket science. Put some thought into it.
This really makes sense! Too bad I have one long strand of 700 lights LOL. But this is a great idea especially for when you take the lights off later if you do I know some people leave them on
I watched a few more times (after trying a few times) starting at the bottom works for me and then it looks like you are layering the branch then go up to the next branch , layer again & keep going up( I did it this way & it worked - are you layer the lights on each branch as you go up?
@Admist the Chaos Thank You for putting this Video Up. I got the idea Perfectly Clear But I did watch another video prior. In that Video, they showed 3 Different Methods and the Time it takes for each method. In that video, they did the same thing you did by doing a 3RD OF the Tree at a Time, However, they Outlined each 3RD 1ST BY taking a String Of Light Up then down Framing the 1/3 Arena. They then did the Weave that you clearly explained inside the framed area going up the Tree starting at the bottom. To Analyze you in this Video, Besides you being a very Gregarious Pleasant Soul, I would Surmise you to be a Manager of sorts at your place of Employment. It seemed to me that you explained this perfectly clear and when it comes to Service at a Restaurant or someone explaining something, I can be quite Anal with it. To me, your video should stand the Test Of time. However, if you do decide to do another video, May I suggest Christmas Attire, ie. A Santa Hat, Mrs.Claus Outfit or Elf Attire. Either Works. A Big Merry Christmas to You.
I might try this, I add my lights as I add on the sections of the tree at fluff out stage! :) so you get that lit from within look. Merry Christmas all x
Your tree is beautiful. I only have a 2.5 foot tree but I still might try this. Two of my strings went out and I had a bitch of a time taking 3 strings off this little tree on order to troubleshoot and get them sorted out. I bet your way is easier. Thank you and Merry Christmas.
Awesome tip! Your flocked tree looks so pretty. Girlfriend, don't apologize for your appearance. You owe no one any makeup or specific presentation of your beautiful self. Be proud of you!
I agree. The lady deserves a compliment for making a video that focuses on the subject and does not try to showcase herself. Some ladies get carried away dolling themselves up before recording. Its a DIY video, not a walk down the red carpet.
Thanks so much for this great idea but it most definitely wasn’t quick LOL.. it was very time consuming for me.. but all and all my tree came out beautiful..
My ocd will not let me set up the lights this way. It takes me 6 hours sometimes more to put up the lights. I have to make sure the lights are evenly spread and the wires are hidden. I am trying to see if there is a faster way, however everyone doesn’t seem to care about hiding the wires and hang the lights up which ever way they want. Wish I could do that, but it would keep me up at night if I did. I think it’s time for a pre light tree next year.
are you going to make another video on stringing the lights? I have watched this several times but still confused where you say you layer( do yo mean wrapping on the branch then going up the tree? )
Yes I think I'll make another one this year. These videos are VERY old and were shot as a quick tutorial for a few friends. I never expected them to gain so many views over the years
@@AmidstTheChaos I will be looking for the new video-I ordered another tree( should of gotten pre lit) and am trying to work on lights doing it the way you show
Wow, looks so much easier. I should have looked at this before decorating this year but I'll remember next year. I was so exhausted after putting lights on that I didn't even want to put the bulbs on. How many strands of lights did you end up using if you're doing it in thirds?
+Angela Little Glad you found this helpful! I honestly can't remember how many strands...I think probably two per section...so maybe 6 in total? But don't quote me on that!
What is the best way to run an extension cord in a real tree? I bought one of those 9 outlet holiday extension cords. My plan is to zip tie each outlet to the bark of the tree. Is this safe to do considering some of the bark is bond to have sap on it?
Hi Kerry. To be totally honest, I'm really not sure. I don't ever use real trees and I wouldn't know the safety concerns between the sap and the outlets. Probably a question you could ask at the hardware store. Sorry!
Kerry Kushetsky keep your tree watered, and use lights that don't get hot (led lights stay cooler). Try googling how to use a holiday extension cord. I haven't seen one so I'm not sure, I always connect each light strand to the next one as I'm putting the lights on, and I've never had a problem. You may also want to Google how to keep your Christmas tree hydrated.
I heard it and it melted my heart!! I have two little tiny girls and it reminds me of something they would say!! Fab job to the Mom here slaying this lighting process!!
Thanks for the help!! This made my mom so happy, she was looking at another video but didn't help her at all. But she found this and she loved it! Thanks for posting this video to help me and my christmas come true! And Happy Holdindays to you!! Needed this to help with my tree! Merry Christmas!!! :D -Kitty Maddness
Hi Sheila, I know it's hard to see what I was doing here (I just put the camera on a tripod), but I do verbally explain what I did starting around 1:15 where I say I'm going to go up and down and then again repeat that I'm doing it vertically. I will be doing another tutorial next week with better camera angles! Stay tuned
Help please !! My christmas tree is 180 cm and my lights contient 50 bulbs and they are double sided so i cant decorate all my tree can you give mee a trick to make glow even if the ligts are not enough
Hi.. you make a nice tutorial. There only one thing that I need to comment is, it safe if you pull out the electric before laying the lights. Or if you keep work with lights ON to trace if it suddenly lights not works because of the cable connection between the bulbs, you can use rubber gloves. Happy Merry X'Mas
This would not work for a normal tree that has quite a bit of space in between levels..I'm guessing. But looks pretty easy and I assume it would use more lights this way.
I'm not sure what you mean by a normal tree...this is a very standard artificial tree from Costco that I'm using. it's also quite old, so the branches have drooped quite a bit. But I do think this technique works for any kind of tree. Once you get all the other decorations like ribbons, flowers and ornaments, you won't notice the strands of lights in between branches
I meant a 6ft artificial tree with quite a bit of spacing between the layers. Those old fashioned trees. Didn't realise yours was artificial as well. But i guess with the decor indeed it might hide most of it.
Awesome! Glad you found us! It would really depend on how long the strings of lights you are using...but I would say for sure 1-2 strings for every 1/3 section!
Then apparently you watched the wrong video huh? Try searching videos named "why am I so negative?" Or try ...okay, never mind it's about to be Christmas! I will have mercy on you. Have a great Christmas!!
Once you add in all the ribbon, florals and ornaments, you really don't see the cords at all. It's just obvious at this stage when it's the only thing on the tree.
It doesn’t show- when you reach the top of one side/section, do you go /start down from the top & go back down towards the bottom, or do you start from the bottom again & work upwards or what? Thx!
HI Lolly - yes, start one section at the bottom and work up. Once you've reached the top, head into the second section working your way back down. For the final section, work your way back up again!
So split tree into thirds. And work one section at a time? Go up and down in the section till you’re all the way round and then move up to the next third?
Yes - split into vertical thirds and work each section separately. Start the first section at the bottom and work your way up, but only in that 1st 3rd section. Once at the top of the first section, start making your way down the second third section. Once at the bottom of the second section, head back up to your third and final section!

Great idea going to try this tomorrow !
Let me know how it turns out!
I love those little fairy lights..
Wow what a great hack
I did not get this at all.
Thanks, I was about to drop kick the tree 🌲
LOL! Yes, it can be really frustrating. This method really takes a fraction of the time and helps save your sanity!
are you going to make another video on stringing the lights? I have watched this several times but still confused where you say you layer( do yo mean wrapping on the branch then going up the tree? )
Yes I think I'll make another one this year. These videos are VERY old and were shot as a quick tutorial for a few friends. I never expected them to gain so many views over the years
@@AmidstTheChaos I will be looking for the new video-I ordered another tree( should of gotten pre lit) and am trying to work on lights doing it the way you show
Omg life saver u safe me lol its so much easier and less time consuming
Yay! I'm so glad you found this helpful! It is SO much easier!
Very pretty!
Thank you!
Very helpful thank you and your tree looks stunning 💕
Thank you so much! Glad you found it helpful!
I feel like it's super easy to just go around
How many lights did you use?
Gratitude
At 1:46 good job Mom u can faintly hear it I hope u have kids lol
I heard it and it melted my heart!! I have two little tiny girls and it reminds me of something they would say!! Fab job to the Mom here slaying this lighting process!!
Thanks for the help!! This made my mom so happy, she was looking at another video but didn't help her at all. But she found this and she loved it! Thanks for posting this video to help me and my christmas come true! And Happy Holdindays to you!! Needed this to help with my tree! Merry Christmas!!! :D

I have the same tree mine is a fake one it does make a mess but it’s beautiful I have to say though not as much of a mess the 2 nd year putting it up
Yes, my thought too Louise. I'm none the wiser. Can't make out as to whether she is dividing into 3 vertically, or Horizontally 🤔
Stay tuned
Looks like she didn't do the back?
3 sections horizontally or 3 sections vertically?
how exactly where u putting the lights on where u wrapping them around the branches??
Just weaving them in and out of the branches
How many sets of lights did you use?

@@AmidstTheChaos I tried it today thanks for the advice!!
Light your christmas tree the easy way
420 is the duration of the video
enjoy
Just go b&m n get tree nets even easier 😁
Not my idea of easy. But thank you for your time.
Help please !! My christmas tree is 180 cm and my lights contient 50 bulbs and they are double sided so i cant decorate all my tree can you give mee a trick to make glow even if the ligts are not enough
I would say burry the lights as deep into the tree as you can if you want it to glow. Alternatively, I would probably buy more lights.
Amidst The Chaos thank youuu so much i will buy more
Hi.. you make a nice tutorial.
There only one thing that I need to comment is, it safe if you pull out the electric before laying the lights.
Or if you keep work with lights ON to trace if it suddenly lights not works because of the cable connection between the bulbs, you can use rubber gloves.
Happy Merry X'Mas
Awesome
Very nice ,but how long string light?!
they are all varying lengths but I'd say most of them are around 30 ft with 100 lights per string
So for my 6ft tree how many lights do i need ?!
Wish you would have showed us what they layering looks like instead of doing it in the back where we can't see what you are doing.
Here's an updated version: ruclips.net/video/wADbPV_8cvU/видео.html
When she said I'm going to shove it in the back of the tree😂😂😂
Lucas Cruz grow up
"Lil Wayne" have some humor😂
Just found this wonderful site .Love your Xmas tutorials Approximately how many lights for each 1/3 section did you use? Thanks for the inspiration.
Awesome! Glad you found us! It would really depend on how long the strings of lights you are using...but I would say for sure 1-2 strings for every 1/3 section!
The EASY way to light your Christmas tree is to buy a fake one with lights already on it
CaRnage they don’t last. I refuse to buy prelit anymore
I spent a WHOLE day taking the old lights off a prelit tree and twice as long trying to add new ones...such a headache..im canceling Christmas
yep...i have a pre lighted tree, it's 5 yrs old, 7ft...still ALIVE and FAT
@@purvisdante 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Then apparently you watched the wrong video huh? Try searching videos named "why am I so negative?" Or try ...okay, never mind it's about to be Christmas! I will have mercy on you. Have a great Christmas!!
Love it but def need white lights… the heeen is
Too much wire showing ...I like to hide as much cord as I can....
Once you add in all the ribbon, florals and ornaments, you really don't see the cords at all. It's just obvious at this stage when it's the only thing on the tree.
Why is the camera not showing what she’s doing? It should have been facing her working area. We can really see what she’s doing.
How many light did you use ?
Can't remember the exact amount of lights but there were at least 3-4 long strands. I like lots of lights!
What kind of lights you used
Those were just regular Christmas lights
Thank you I need new lights but led lights so expensive
So, this only works if your tree is against a wall. Mine is in front of the window...
Not at all! I did the entire tree, breaking it into three sections
Where do you get your lights?
Hi Amanda, I usually pick up a new box a year. Often just from Walmart or Home Depot
I can’t see what are you doing. I little closer would be nice.
I also posted it on FB!!
Thanks love!
It's not that easy when your tree is 12 feet tall
Well, either way you're needing a step stool or a ladder to decorate it. Still easier than going round and round :)
@@AmidstTheChaos good vid
I could not see what you did. Your camera was not pointed where you worked
I just filmed an updated version which I posted the other day where you can MUCH better! Hope it helps: ruclips.net/video/wADbPV_8cvU/видео.html
All I see is the cords NOT good
Because that's the only thing on the tree! This is the first step - once everything is on the tree, you won't see them.
CAN'T SEE A THING U ARE DOING AFTER ABOUT 30 SECONDS OF WATCHING I KNEW ITS A BIG THUMBS DOWN AND MOVE ON😢
We can't see. You're in the back
So split tree into thirds.
Amidst The Chaos great thank you! About to do it now!
@@theshape7214 No problem! Let me know how it turns out!
