@@woogoo400 Because most people from Asian countries study English in school. It's basically the same as foreigners in the West using French or English to communicate when traveling in Europe.
That's only because English is the language of commerce. It's used in pretty much every country. It has nothing to do with the taxi driver thinking Op is something other than Filipino.@@miadavis4837

When I first saw Jihyo I thought she was a mixed korean. She has such unique features. And the weird thing is when I saw her siblings they both look korean to me. Its just her who is ambiguous😂.
@@daebak7370 Some even say she looks Hispanic like South American. I don't see that. I do actually see possibly some Chinese descent or even Thai somewhere in there. Like Siyeon of Dreamcatcher often got mistaken for non-Korean as well. Like despite she very much is Korean, she also does have an exotic looking face. Which means that she could have some other Asian blood. I saw one comment with her having met a Siyeon and saying to the comment section that in person Siyeon is stunning, but she looked a bit Moroccan or Mongolian. I don't think she looks Moroccan at all. Definitely could have some Mongolian blood or even Chinese because they both did have control over at least a part of Korea and Japan.

Honestly that's probably pretty accurate. I actually thought she was Thai. Could be the naturally tanner skin tone or just the eyes. This is actually a problem for Siyeon from Dreamcatcher apparently, since on a recent livestream this 2023, she actually told a story about when her and SuA (Of course its SuA, they're attached at the hip), were just walking down the street going to the store to pick up stuff. As they were going down one of the isles, someone recognized them despite them wearing hats and a hood over the hats, with glasses to match, but didn't make it like a big show or anything, she just gave them a hug and said how much she liked their new album, they thanked her and she said, out of nowhere, to Siyeon, "You know, you don't really look Korean." Siyeon just shook her head and responded that she got that a lot. She wasn't insulted, she just found it funny. SuA found it a lot less funny though. This made me think about it, and in the comments, I saw someone say that Siyeon does look Korean, and while I agree, she also has a very exotic looking face and very much could have some Moroccan or even Mongolian blood. That would explain the exotic face.

Normally in Asian countries, a ‘foreigner’ is really reserved to a white caucasian. Seeing another Asian of mongol descent is just referring them as their Chinese, Viet, Japanese, thai, etc, never ‘foreigner’. These days, because of people’s increased ability to different kinds of asians eventhough they share similar features, people now lump non-locals as ‘foreigners’. But the treatment and perception remains- a true ‘foreigner’ is a white caucasian. Asians, no matter which Asian country you’re from, is still Asian and is more relatable to fellow Asians. East, and mostly of the SEA region. Blacks or other brown skinned nations aren’t even considered ‘foreigner’, they are just referred to as black or whatever. Other than that, you’re typically a ‘foreigner’. Real talk.
I'm in Seoul. You do not speak for Korea. The concept of "fellow Asians" doesn't even apply to East Asia, more specifically Korea and Japan. We don't like being clumped together as "Asians". That is very likely an SEA thing. We refer to ourselves as either Korean or Japanese period. Even East Asian is not that common because there are other countries in East Asia that aren't Korea or Japan.
Growing up in a rural area in the Philippines, whenever we see White Caucasian tourists, we call them Kano, short for Amerkano regardless of what country they're from. They can be from Europe or other countries outside of the US but we'll still call them the same.😂😂😂
