Rachel Riley and several soap stars have dumped long term partners for dancers during the show and always used the same excuse *"Well being in the spotlight means they understand me better than my not famous partner that I've dated my whole adult life."*

The issue is not the sex. If it was single people then no one would bat an eyelid. It's about the infidelity and/or the destruction of existing relationships.
That said, some relationships should have been destroyed long ago but too many people settle for a bad relationship over none at all. I'd suggest that Rachel Riley is an example of someone who would be considered part of this curse but who really should have separated from her husband before she went on Strictly at all. I'm sure that there are other examples too.
