Hi Bob, splendid sound as always, the Schick seems to have a strong output, very energetic. I thought that this 45rpm that you have was based on the Diamond Life album that i have, but the album doesn't include this Spirit song, and after watching your Smooth Operator video again, i noticed that even Smooth Operator is a bit different than mine, maybe a different mix not sure, and has the Red Eye track that seems to work as an extention of the Smooth Operator track.
Hi Rui. This cartridge has an 8mV output! I couldn't discover if Spirit had appeared on an album, and the mix of Smooth Operator is different from the Diamond Life version - as you say it runs into Red Eye. Someone had commented on my Smooth Operator video if I could do the other side, so I thought why not? It's quite an aggressive sounding record, though. Certainly not the smoothest (operator) . . . ;o)
@@MusicAndVinyl On the other hand, the Diamond Life LP that i own, MOV reissue, has a very soft audio, maybe even too soft for my taste. It's not horrible, but compared with the CD and regular digital versions on YT, it lacks some punch, which i miss on some of the tracks.
@@MrVinylObsessive It just shows how variable mastering and/or pressing can be! This 12 inch single is probably aimed at DJ use, and mastered accordingly.
It wa the flip side to Smooth Operator it has never been played on a bonus track or any Greatest hits also not included on Sade's first Album "Diamond Life". Such a good song i never forgot about this Excellent. 💽
Hello Bob, would you happen to have a direct download link for the audio file so we won't have to listen through RUclips and its compression? Thank you so much for your work! - Marcus
Hi Bob, although I really like Sade I did not know this topic. Here you can see the evolution he had as an artist. Her later works were more and more soft, minimalist and elegant, it is curious to hear her in a more funky and danceable theme.
Hi Roberto. Yes, this is a little different from Sade's usual style. As far as I can tell this song never appeared on an album, only as a B side to the Smooth Operator single record.
i dont know if im too sensitive, but i hear flutter in some instruments, i think is because this side is not properly centered and the arm is swinging but overall good sound quality
Well Bob, Sade never disappoints, as lovely as ever. I understand from reading the Schick web-page the cartridge output is very high, 8mv! For me forgive me, its a little too hot, brightly lit etc. Would you play something else for us? Just how many cartridges do you have?
Hi Nigel. This link gives the videos I've done with DasMM: musicandvinyl.blogspot.com/search/label/Schick%20Das%20MM?view=flipcard Yes, 8mV! it's based on the Tonar Diabolic DJ cartridge. Have a look here: musicandvinyl.blogspot.com/2017/11/dj-carts-shure-m35x-v-tonar-diabolic.html?view=flipcard This record is quite bright with any cartridge BTW, not just this one. As to how many cartridges I have - around 20 including p-mounts I think ;o)
Thanks for the comment! I have to admit I rarely reset the arm and any VTA needs are dealt with by changing the mat for one with a different thickness. I'm pleased I've got the Kenwood back in circulation; it's such a nice turntable to operate and look at (IMO). And it always sounds good.
Hello Bob. How do you rate this Das MM cartridge? I am new to vinyl and looking to start with a good MM carts. VM760SLC, Sumiko Amethyst, and this Das MM is on my radar :)
Thanks for your comment. I really like the Schick but if you're new to vinyl I would suggest sticking to the AT or Sumiko as the Das MM does need a higher VTF (up to 4gm) as it's based on the Tonar Diablo DJ model. I hope this helps..
Oh my God! More Sade please!
The effect of 45rpm is so prominent. Thanks for the truly excellent and detailed recording!
You are very welcome!
Lyrics:
Let the spirit move me
Keep that coming to me
Feel that running through me
Gotta keep the faith
Let the spirit move me
Keep that coming to me
Feel that running through me
Gotta keep the faith
I've been away
It had to be a long time no see
Drifted around
Thousands of miles between you and me
But I'm coming home
You need the drooves to hold me back
Cause I'll finally stay
To turn my dream into a fire
Let the spirit move me
Keep that coming to me
Feel that running through me
Gotta keep the faith
Wanderers
City to city done gone
Impossible games
You have to play
To find some fun
But in the end
You find that faith to be yourself
That this spirit's giving me
Hmmmmm
You need that faith ... nothing else
Let the spirit move me
Keep that coming to me
Feel that running through me
Gotta keep the faith
Spirit spirit spirit move me
Spirit spirit move me
Spirit spirit
You gotta let the spirit move you on and on
Spirit spirit
You gotta let the spirit move you on and on
Let the spirit move me(You gotta let the spirit move ...)
Keep that coming to me (Gotta keep that coming ...)
Feel that running through me (Feel that feel that feel that...)
Gotta keep the faith
Let the spirit move me(Gotta let the spirit move ...)
Keep that coming to me (Keep that coming ...)
Feel that running through me (Got to got to got to ...)
Gotta keep the faith
Let the spirit move me
Keep that coming to me
Feel that running through me
Gotta keep the faith
Let the spirit move me(You gotta let the spirit move ...)
Keep that coming to me (Gotta keep that coming ...)
Feel that running through me (Feel that feel that feel that...)
Gotta keep the faith
Let the spirit move me
Keep that coming to me
Feel that running through me
Gotta keep the faith
Let the spirit move me
Keep that coming to me
You got to let the spirit move you on and on
Gotta keep the faith
Fun to watch that needle practically dance along that vinyl!

Das MM is a rebodied Tonar Diabolic E ;-)

wow - kenny and schick, perfect combo. Do you reset the arm height etc each time bob? This is sounding really good!

Have you tried using the ortofon spu on this turntable? Would they be compatible with each other?
I did consider the SPU but I don't have a counterweight heavy enough to balance it!
Heck now this is music!!!!!!!!!! Why does ALL new music sound like shit now?!?!
Just bought the Record but it’s not the Long Plate you see there it’s a small 45
Mine was a 7" record flip side to Smooth Operater .
👍🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
No offence anyone, I do like Sade but I thought I read it as Slade🤣😂. Need new specs. Imagine Sade and Noddy.👏🏻👏🏻
Stranger things have happened!!!
Nice clear sound but lacking smoothnes. No sweet operator 🙂.
Yeah - this is quite an aggressive sounding record really!
