- Going on a deep sea fishing trip?! What many people don’t know is that there is a technique to catching fish with your rod and reel while fishing offshore that is different from fishing inshore or in bass fishing. In this video we’ll show you how to fish for your offshore trip.
The important thing to remember is always keep the line tight and your rod up. Also, when lifting your rod, do it gently. Don’t jerk. Then reel as you lower the rod back down but don’t let the line go slack.
This video shows how to fight fish if your going offshore fishing. From taking beginners over the years I've seen a lot of common mistakes that I talk about in this video. By avoiding these mistakes you will be able to catch more fish on your next trip and look a little more professional doing it.

I was trying to find a video on this gave up and then found this. Very big help. Thanks. I have been having catfish get away because I am new and they really use their weight. I hope I can get them up to the boat.
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
this is the basic video i was looking for. thanks
No problem. I hope it helps!
Great video, clear explanation. Just subbed!
Great video but I have a big question not answered in the video ; I recently went offshore to a reef in around 30ft depth . I got huge bites in 8000 and 4000 reels I could not land any fish . The fish seem to pull extremely hard and consistently and I was unable to get them close to the boat at all . Should I reel while they are pulling line or not ? I was using 80 lbs mono as leaders . Also I think some of the fish went into the reef cutting the line . Honestly I dont know to much about fishing offshore I am learning as much as possible. If you can give me the tips or what to do in this kind of Situation but I did always keep the line tight and the rod pretty good . Thanks
Those are great questions and that happens to me sometimes too. Reeling while the fish is pulling drag won’t help. You could tightened the drag though. I use a scale to pull on the line and often set it at a third of the line strength and adjust from there. Sometimes a big shark will take your light line and there isn’t anything you can do. If they get into the reef, sometimes I’ll actually put the line in free spill and pull some line off till it loose. Then tighten it and sometimes when the pressure is off the fish will swim out on his own. I have a video where we caught a really big Mutton Snapper on light line in the keys this way!
@@ReelHazardous thanks appreciate the answer I will try tomorrow to fish again there and see how I do with the new tips .
