Famed sportscaster Marty Glickman discusses how he and Sam Stoller, the only two Jewish athletes on the US Olympic Track & Field team, were dropped from the 4x100-meter relay team at Hitler's Olympics, and of his subsequent friendship with Jesse Owens.
This interview, shot just seven and a half months before Marty Glickman passed away, was conducted by Mark Aaron at the American Jewish Historical Society for their Archive on Jews in Sport.

"none of the white athletes showed up to Jesse's funeral but ME" that is insane, it looks like the Germans treated Jesse better than his own TEAM! Marty is a trooper for calling this out

Also while Jesse will always be the heroic icon for his exploits on the track in 1936, this reveals what a great man he was OFF the track as well.

Marty Glickman please know you are one of those who are precious & few. U are better then what life have given you. What they took from you in the 30's, isn't stolen in the heart's of men like my own. I see you as the winner then as well as I see you as the winner today. From your words of yesteryear are replaced in the world here today. You remind me of a great chessplayer once. If I ever come across any of your grandchildren, I'll let them know you are the medal that came home bigger then the ones that wore by the 1936 champions in Germany. I'm a black man of 60 years old This day 11/20/2018. Please know I just learned of your name from this post today 11 20 2018. That famous race took place 32 years ago before I was even born. The tragic here today now is not knowing who you ever were. I know you are one of the best that didn't get challenge by many of the champions that day. I realize those fools took the best thing from your life, you felt all your life. This kind of valuable race can never be replace. It's still special to your heart and mind. Many would've have known who the true champs would been if they would have kept you along with Sam Stoller in that race 1936 Germany. U are here today because you won more then the race that took place that in '36. In my mind you won in ways they'll never conceived a honor to share. Men like you and the championships of Jesse Owen race I see in you. That should be name after Jesse, Owens & Sam Track Honors. In many ways you are a champion like no other champion. A champion amongst champions with a heart of gold. You are one of a kind and they can't find a medal like you anywhere of anytime of anytime. You are priceless. Know that as I do. Please know it would be an honor for me to let your grand children know you are a champion of that time that didn't get his Medal along with Sam. You are a life that lead the way to never be quiet about an unknown champion who are one of the great.

Marty Glickman was a very articulate man, who in addition to being a star athlete, went on to do sports commentary for many years. Sam Stoller, unlike Glickman, was reserved. I ran track in high school, and one of my father's best friends had the surname, Stoller. It's not a common name, and I asked his wife if he and Sam were related. She told me they were first cousins.
She told me quite a bit more as well, much of which Glickman addressed, and then some. I can only guess that Stoller was so disgusted with the running community, that he finished his senior year running track, and he wanted to put it all behind him. Just a conjecture, but maybe that's why he didn't attend Jesse Owens' funeral.

Well I don't know if it means anything but years ago in growing in the projects in Bronx I met Jesse Owen's daughter during Black History month and she told us that her father stated the two men he and Ralph Metcalf replaced were kept from running because they were Jewish and USA, sure to win, would have been a terrible embarrassment to the Nazis. It's good he let people know bigotry kept you from winning the gold and you deserved it.

Would have made a better story in the long run had two American Jews won a gold medal, and it wouldn't have taken away from Owens's amazing story.
But apart from that, the biggest risk to the American team wasn't the Germans or anyone else, it was a bad handoff. On that basis alone, it would have been safer to keep the existing guys on the team, since they'd all practiced together.

Our social history wouldve been even better at the time if Marty Glickman and sam Stoller stood with Owens in that hiatoric olympics. (Figuratively, i mean). I have never heard this. Very disheartening. He has every right to be pissed. Shocking he was the only white athlete at his funeral. That is hard to believe. So many things happened in 1980 and 81 that i wish i remembered, but i was born in 77. No recollection of his death, john lennons, nor the famous miracle on ice.

Amazing! Thank you for this wonderful documentary and interview. This is the history that surely should be shared. I used to run as a kid - college and knew part of the story but much of this I 'never' knew or heard in school! I agree it probably would have made even a much better story had the kept the Jewish runners on the team since Jesse had already made his mark. Can you imagine the Blacks and the Jews dominate in the 1936 Olympics? But again who is to say what the Germans may have done or said they would do behind the closed doors to American officials...? Still the friendship that developed between Marty and Jesse is nice to hear and his disgust that the rest of the team did not come out for Jesse's funeral. He is a great stand up guy....Marty now with the internet....those who didn't know will know the truth!
