      Main line to leader I go through a barrel swivel - palomar on the braid, clinch on the leader, also clinch on leader to lure.

      Better be in somewhat decent shape for trips like that. I grew up with a cottage on Misquamicut beach and used to go out on the Blackhawk and Hel-cat. We moved to Colorado in ‘91 and the last time I’ve fished the gut/race was 2011. I was in great shape at the time and won the pool with a 16lb blue and caught close to 20 blues/stripers and my arm were like jello.

    John for the single bucktails, I’ve noticed that you or your buddy’s have used heavier ones around 6oz. Would you go to a lower weight single bucktail if you are fishing shallower water? Say about 20ft of water

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  5 месяцев назад

      Definitely I would always fish the minimum weight required to not scope out. This trip that was 6 ounces. 5 was not staying down.

    I noticed the cannonball sinker. Is this something you always did? I was wondering how you keep the bucktails down there.

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  6 месяцев назад +1

      That's the standard 3-way rig. I show the rig on this video: ruclips.net/video/5vFnK4kgPxY/видео.html

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  6 месяцев назад +1

      The issue with using only a bucktail, even a 6-ounce, is sometimes it won't stay down. I had this for a time yesterday with wind against the current. I went to a 3-way with a 10-ounce sinker and that fixed it. At this point, if a 6-ounce bucktail will stay down on its own, I'll choose that over the 3-way.

    • @mc1175
      @mc1175 6 месяцев назад

      @@JohnSkinnerFishing Thank you! I had many moments where bucktails and such just wouldn't do it because of strong currents and I thought of your rig. I wonder if something similar can be done with my light Nichols flutter spoons without resorting to buying heavier Tsunami flutter spoons.

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  6 месяцев назад +1

      If a 3-way rig doesn't get you down, a spoon definitely won't. I use 30# braid. 50# is OK too. Mono would be terrible.

      We use the Tsunami Heavy spoon. It's 6 ounces: bit.ly/3AXNxFb. If I could have only one rig for this place it would be a 3-way rig, because you can always use a heavier sinker to stay down. Most importantly - 30# braid.

Me and all my buddy's in north shore Massachusetts usually are on a bunch of fish by this time of year but this year nobody is catching squat with the exception of a couple schoolies. Im concerned about the overall statr of the fishery, or maybe its just an abnormal year? Ive only been fishing for 6 years so i havent seen this yet but have you had weird seasons like this?
