Super Easy Fix for Water Damage on MDF!

Here's a quick tip for fixing bubbling swollen MDF panels. I'll show you how I repaired these kitchen cabinet doors by removing the water damage, sealing the fibers, and filling in the voids. I also show you how I eliminate old drips and prepare the surface for repainting.

That's called a palette knife. They're made for fine art painting, but super useful for stuff like this.

Thank you so much for this video! I was about to replace all of my MDF cabinets...now i know it is fixable...but my countertop near sink is swollen badlly, is it also fixable?

So glad to hear that you found the video helpful!! The countertop might be fixable. Depends on the surface material. Is it a laminate of some kind over a particle board? If that's the case, it will probably be difficult to access the swollen material below, and might damage the surface. But if you were going to resurface the top of the countertop, and can cut or sand through the top surface, this method should work. Thanks for watching. Good luck!

I have the exact same cabinets with MDF and the white overlay. What brand paint did you use, please? I need to fix some water damage using your helpful tips, and then it's time to paint!

This kitchen was painted with Sherwin Williams pro classic interior acrylic enamel, in semi gloss. Pro Classic is pretty good for cabinets. If you have any trouble getting a good color match, I recommend taking a door to a SW store and have them do a color match. Good luck!
