We often forget what an art form acting is until we are treated to some really captivating examples of it. Ben Lloyd-Hughes is so adept, so convincing as a man who has been betrayed by someone he loved and has closed off his heart to ever risking it again. He conveys more emotion through his eyes than any actor ever could with words. What a talent! And this is the perfect role for him to display it. His ability to convince us that he IS Alexander Colbourne, feeling that fear and angst as he finds himself falling in love despite every effort not to is almost overwhelming. And Rose Williams is equally convincing as the governess who has also sworn off love, only to find herself in the same state of confusion, both attracted to and exasperated by Alexander. It's just the most delicious escapism for the viewer. We become enchanted and involved and invested in this relationship almost as much as Rose and Alexander are. You forget that these are characters played by actors and not actual people in an actual relationship. And isn't THAT what is so magical about exemplary acting?!! If this series doesn't catapult these two actors into mega-stars in the next few years, I would be shocked. Hopefully, they are offered roles that will give them both that opportunity. I look forward to seeing much more of these extremely talented artists in the future!
Reshma is mistaken. Rose said it quietly but apparently Reshma didn't hear her: "Milk from her asses", not goats! It piqued my curiosity when Lady D mentioned it in both seasons! Check out the history of how donkey milk has been been used here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donkey_milk
