My very first purchase from Ormonde Jayne . I fell in love at first sniff . But they reformulated it. All OJ have been reformulated. If you can find some of the early OJ fragrances you’ll be blown away at how beautiful the perfumes were compared to the heavy iso e super frags OJ has now . Oh I used to love Ormonde Jayne so much. I would tell everyone about this house. Especially TOLU and Ambre Royal. Sooo beautiful but it’s not the same. It also doesn’t last as long as it used to. I now get a couple of hours. Maybe not even that long . What a shame. I’m so sad they messed with perfection.

Great review Pep. From this brand I have Ormonde Elixir, Black Gold and Nawab of Oudh Intensivo. In my humble opinion, the best of the brand and all masterpieces. Regards from Mexico.
This is gorgeous, I agree with you re: the lightness in the opening. I think that’s why I fell for it so quickly because it doesn’t whack you in the face from the start. As the perfume warms up to the more balsamic, ambery notes the wearer gets to go on the same journey to warm up to it. I also get soapiness but it seems to appear a bit sooner in the journey for me. Loved the review!

Pep, I added Tolu to my collection last year as well. It has a magical quality that floats around me when I wear it. I think it’s completely unisex. The florals are abstract in my opinion. I’m so happy to own this one. Love it!

Oh yeah! How good is Tolu! One of the best from OJ imo. 👍 Not your typical resinous/amber scent.

I love this fragrance. I have it now for almost two yrs and what i get is mainly from mid on...a yellow floral amber. I do get some bitterness all the way through from a citrus green accord. I find it quite "feminine" and actually havent worn it "out to work " The sillage is quite present for about 5hrs on me and it doesnt come down to a skin scent till well after application(7) hrs......its comforting and i only wear it for myself at home. Its a very rich/heavy scent and good for cooler weather..I wouldnt wear this in very hot enviorns. To me this is definately a floral sweet amber. I brilliant blend.
I adore this and your description is on point. I do remember early blog reviews pushing it towards leaning feminine but whatever haha. There are some orchids with scent but I'm not sure what OJ was going with that. Kinda like a fantasy note that we can throw in there and nobody can disapprove otherwise :D
I was discussing the orchid thing with someone earlier and i stand corrected, there are fragrant ones. I guess technically vanilla comes from an orchid😁
Hey Pep - some orchids have a fresh, faint vanilla like smell, but they do not look like the typical orchid flower. Larger flowers and hang low from what I've seen.

Velvet peach coloured cakes? Now I'm hungry...🍑 I remember asking Luca Turin whether Tolu Balm was the same as Tolu Balsam. He basically told me that the only difference was in the name. I pressume Tolu refers to the same ingredient. I think you're right about orchids being a fantasy note too. There are just so many species and so many different odours - some of them awful - that it would make sense to attempt to standardize the scent by creating a facsimile from the seeds or something.

Pep, about an hour into my test here and I'm getting a very minute fur-like texture reminiscent of Musc Tonkin that cuts through the initial guazy powder - did you sense this? More Musc Tonkin than Chanel's 1957.
Hmm, i think i might need to check this later.
