my favorite Rush story is that they put the rotisserie chickens in the back of the stage cuz the crew thought it would be funny to finally be able to say that there were chicks on the stage because it isn't known joke that Rush do not have a lot of female fans. LOL personally, I always loved that I never had a line for the bathroom. LOL
Picture this, Neil walks into a drums and percussion store Employee: What are you looking for today? Neil: I was looking to see if I could buy everything in the store? Employee: Sure, but, it’s gonna be a lot of money. Neil: It’s fine, just give me everything. Lol
Pretty sure I recommended it a good while back, I usually do when someone picks out Geddy's bass during another reaction. Thing I love about Rush is that they'll never tread on each other's toes, when they find a hook they respect it and do enough to support it. In this case it was Geddy's (I thought similar with Marathon). As is natural with Rush songwriting though, there is always some interplay so they all get their time to be in focus, but they never overplay these parts. This track I believe is about the 'mating dance' with Geddy playing the persistent male of whatever species and Alex being the slow to warm female. Dunno Neil's role though (a David Attenborough-esque narrative perhaps!)
The masters at it again......but this time Geddy has a base solo. They don’t have to leave “that thing alone” because every time they touch that thing something magical happens! Watch the follow up with “where is my thing”. ruclips.net/video/AKIc20Liw3c/видео.html
Excellent choice! This track does not get enough notice and the same goes for the whole album, Counterparts. I love the opening track, Animate. How many drums? Exactly the right amount. The platform spins around so Neil can play a different combination and still face the audience.
Sweet reaction, mate!. You remind me of myself back then in the early eighties when i first discovered and listened to Rush stuff. Great reaction as always. Good job.
Even though that was from one of my favorite Rush albums (Counterparts) my favorite instrumental is "Where's My Thing?" from Roll The Bones ruclips.net/video/ZyyYzddxxVY/видео.html Not a wrong note or beat anywhere in that piece
I wonder if Geddy has ever broken a bass string onstage...that was the dirtiest, nastiest bass attack I have seen in awhile. His hands and fingers have got to Nothing but calluses.,
They didn’t perform Where’s My Thing on this (Time Machine Tour) tour, that was the Clockwork Angels tour, and yes he has to react to it, lol. The drum solo in that video is just incredible. ruclips.net/video/AKIc20Liw3c/видео.html I’m guessing this is the one you’re talking about?
Neil said in one of his books that he believes this is their best instrumental which is saying a lot considering YYZ & La Villa. I guess it is a matter of preference & opinion but I will say that I could put this song on repeat and listen to it all day and never get tired of it. The bass groove is just infectious!! One of their later day masterpieces that does not get enough credit. You could say that about a lot of their later material however. Everyone always talks about the classic 70's prog era, but some of their later stuff is just brilliant! Clockwork Angels is a great example (#3 on my list of RUSH albums) just check out the live version of Carnies, Caravan, or BU2B. RUSH IS music for the soul!!! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂
I was working in college radio when Counterparts came out and so badly wanted to get this track some airplay. I was told it wasn’t our format. Soooo...I used it as my music bed for our news breaks. It may have ‘accidentally’ been potted up a little high, while those news breaks ran a little long. Sadly, I could never get away with longer than a minute or so....
Leave That Thing Alone (Counterparts, 1993) is the follow-up instrumental to Where's My Thing? (Roll the Bones, 1991). Gotta love the "Thing" instrumentals!
Yay! I just tweeted you as well! lol! Colorado Avalanche 2-1 up at the moment against Dallas as well! Go Avs Go!!! (This is Rush, gotta get some ice hockey in right? 😁)
How about trying one of their later instrumentals off of Snakes & Arrows - "Main Monkey Business" - ruclips.net/video/mGf9JcSXvCc/видео.html I'd say they all play equal roles in that song! :) But make sure you pay close attention to the level of dedication and work Alex puts into playing it!
Is good instrumental by the band and I can see something standing in the back of your room and yeah that you play something would be great to hear from you
Gotta check out studio version of Freewill by Rush. Instrumental interlude will reconfigure the synapses of the brain. Geddy on base will make you think the impossible is possible!
One Little Vicory from Rio, The Analog Kid from Different Stages, Dreamline, Marathon from A Show Of Hands would be my top picks for you next. Love the vids so far!
There are only two bands that (almost?) changed my life, and that's Rush and Babymetal. My all time favs. And btw he has two drumsets: one "normal" and one electronic behind him, so when the whole set turns around, he changes to the other set. That's why this drumset can turn around. R.I.P. Professor - your lyrics and drumming will be missed forever! And again one of Geddy's awesome "ripping" bass-solos and the guitar work Alex is providing in the background is just "mmmmmmh". Nice reaction Detrucci, as always.
Rush have that Canadian sense of humour, really weird and unexpected things. Geddy (Gary actually except to his grandma, who pronounced it Geddy and it stuck) found he didn't need big amplifiers on stage because the monster P.A. they used made them unnecessary, so he brought banks of chicken rotisseries (complete with cooking chickens) for one tour and then banks of clothes dryers complete with drying clothes, for another tour. Best smelling concerts ever :)
This band is incredible! I love this band! Amazing live! I've seen them twice! 3 amazing musicians. Here they are pushing 60 years old and still bad ass! Geddy is a beast on the bass!
Ah, nuts, I always get them mixed up... I thought it was "Where's my thing?". Don't get me wrong, this was amazing too :) But if you like this, you really need to see the Time machine tour performance of "Where's my thing?"
Oh my God I love this song so much I have to keep going in college I had to find vo music so I use this track as the bed for my vocals and everyone in the class was jealous and they're like where did you get that and I said it's Rush baby!!!
"That is the equivalent of a bass mic drop" Perfect description LOL. Saw that tour in West Palm Beach and I think he went even more bonkers at the end.
"Trolls" gatecrashed YYZ during the 2013 tour. I didn't even remember that, saw it on someone else's video! lol! (Neil, Alex and Ged dressed up as trolls for the hilarious starting video for the Clockwork Angels tour!)
Was watching a RUclips video of YYZ from the gig in Birmingham I attended in 2013 and apparently people dressed as the trolls like Alex, Ged and Neil were for the intro video (or half way through video, I can't remember!) "gatecrashed" the stage. I have absolutely no memory of that! lol!
zimmyfan617 Saw that tour in July at Riverbend in Cincinnati. Awesome show. Took my oldest son for his first, and sadly last of course, Rush experience.

Drum salesman: What kind of kit are looking for?

How many drums does Neil have? Answer: All of them
Thays a good answer
Picture this, Neil walks into a drums and percussion store
Employee: What are you looking for today?
Neil: I was looking to see if I could buy everything in the store?

Love this song. I can jam to this all the time. Thanks.

Other bands must just cry when they listen to a Rush instrumental, knowing they’ll never create anything as amazing...🤷🏻♂️😛
If you love Rabbit holes, how about some Show don't Tell from Presto. It's got some more of that Geddy bass funk!
Love the poem you have written for this video in the description! 😁

this final geddy solo is an absurd complexity!!! too much!
85pc drum kit 18 carrot gold also a day and a half to put it together and tune pretty wild ha
