I find that I only water when the leaves start closing up. In my experience waiting for the soil to dry up is unreliable when it comes to these. (every times I've seen them curl, the soil happened to be dry) These plants are pretty good at telling you what they want.

Hi! I'm from Rio de Janeiro, and I have a Triostar for a few months now. Love your video! 🥰 Something I think is important to point out, is that it's a tropical forest plant. In nature, it lives underneath bigger plants, closer to the ground, so it's natural state is really out of the direct sun and the soil is very rich in organic material, and also it loves humidity (just think Amazon forest) and also it gets drops of rain after all the other taller plants got 'em . Thanks for the video!

My best advice to people would be not to buy small. I got one in a four inch pot. It died back to one leaf before adjusting to the new environment and springing back. Once back, leaves were half brown due to my dry home, (I was giving distilled water from the get go) so I moved it under lights in my basement. Cut it back and the leaves grew back with no crispy edges at all. I have been told that the larger plants are more resilient and that I was lucky mine didn't die. I am a cheap person (and proud of that, lol) so as far as me, I am ok with the experience, but for others, buy them bigger if you want fewer struggles.

I've found the Triostar to be one of the easier of the prayer plant family for me too. Mine is about 2m / 6 feet from a due east window, and some 1m / 3 feet away from my humidifier. It's doing great but this will be its first winter with me so the jury is still out!
I water all my plants with filtered water and so far no browning.
Top tip for plants you like to shower is to water first with filtered water, then set the plant in the tub/shower with a rag around the crown of the plant before hitting it with the shower water. That way you get the cleaning of the leaves, you knock off the pests, but you don't get much tap water into the soil...

I find using coco coir instead of soil and controlling the nutrient intake of the plant myself works the best and you won't get burnt tips because you would just adjust the nutrients.
With coco coir you won't have any bugs or things you don't want in there.
Also, I find every once and a while throwing a little plain epsom salt into the water helps them a whole lot and provides stress relief.

First time I saw this was on a plant shop expedition, it was love at first sight! I think the foliage is just spectacular. I noticed with mine that when it's getting enough sun, the leaves go up at night. But when it isn't, they'll start looking like they're hanging down and barely lift up at all. When I was getting up in the morning and its leaves hadn't lifted at all, I got scared and moved it to a brighter spot, doing much better now!

I use rain water for all my sensitive ones like prayer plants and calatheas. I live in Texas so rain here is scarce except for one season. So I have to collect & save. But if I run out I use distilled & the brown tips don’t happen as long as I keep a humidifier going in my bathroom & that is where I keep mine running the humidity that high. I find my ferns and calatheas just do better where they are now with a west facing window in there. I wish I could keep them around the house cuz of their beauty but they look so ratchet without the high humidity. :(

Hi Harli, good to see you again. I have this Stromanthe and I love it so much, I have had mine for over a year and it is doing great, I have it in my west facing window and it gets light but not direct light. I do have a humidifier going in the same area. I only water when it's dry, but not overly dry and I do mist it sometimes, and I do use filtered water. Mine doesn't look perfect, and I also have a few leaves that have some brown on the tips of them, but not as much as I was afraid it would get, it has been giving me a ton of new growth, and I love it. Mine is still in the nursery pot and I popped it into a cache po. Thanks Harli, I love any and all tips I get on my plants even when I have the plant, because sometimes I could do more for the plant. I really love this video it has some great information on one of my favorite plants. I hope you have a great week, and you are looking so adorable as a pregnant lady, take care and I will see you soon, love you, bye for now.

I got one a few months ago, repotted with a well draining soil, and put it outside on my covered patio. For humidity I use a deep plastic saucer from Lowe's with river rocks. The rocks fill the saucer so the plant is suspended above the water and as the water evaporates it creates humidity around the plant. I water it maybe once or twice a week and when I water it refills the saucer. Mine hase grown huuuuuge and constantly has 3-7 new leaves coming in. Definitely tied for my favorite plant in my collection and probably the easiest one to care for!

I bought one of these beauties on clearance without knowing anything about it. I was so scared when I heard they were finicky plants. It was pretty brown and VERY papery when I got it but I put it right next to my humidifier, against the wall between two windows and it is thriving! 😁 Also I noticed the white parts hated getting misted, it made weird stains so I stopped that in favor for the humidifier.
I watched so many videos on this plant when I got it, and this one is the best by far! Thank you!

Thank you for this video and all of your useful tips. Mine is so picky and has so many crispy burnt tips. I moved it away further from the window and it’s starting perk up.

I feel so much better about my brown tips! I've been super careful about the light and type of water, nothing seems to prevent even new leaves from crispy edges.

Got two trios from HD for $3 each and it they were bad! The leaves were crispy, the soil was dry and some leaves were folded as if they shoved them somewhere or had something laying on top of them. I took off all of the dead leaves and repotted them together and now it’s thriving and she’s my favorite plant...I thought she was going to die for sure lol but it’s the pushing out new shoots every week! I’m glad I rescued them and I think they are too 😊

Great timing for this video Harli! I've gotten two hysterical calls from plant friends and the Season Of Death hasn't even started😂 My winter tips: NO COLD DRAFTS! Keep away from radiators/heating vents. Provide lots of humidity. Mist every morning too. Distilled water only.

I about gave up on my triostar it went from my bedroom which has a west facing window to my living room that has east facing windows. Because they love humidity I had it in a pebble tray, watered twice weekly to no avail, about killed it. It now sits outside in my greenhouse and doing beautifully. I guess it prefers it outside. Thanks for your tips though maybe I’ll try it again someday lol

I have had this plant for about a year now. 1/3 of it has always been brown and crispy (sometimes just the tips of the leaves, sometimes more) but it still lives and all the roots look really healthy. I finally decided to do some research and it says it's most likely my tap water. Today, I divided my plant up into three smaller plants and planted then in three separate ways (1:1:1 soil, bark, perlite; leca with a reservoir of flora series; and the third in normal crappy potting soil). I used bottled water for all of these so I hope at least one thrives.
EDIT: just learned this is part of the prayer plant family and... interestingly enough, I murdered my prayer plant, too.

Mine has been living in a plastic bag for a few months as humidity in my house is quite low in winter. It looked terrible so I put a plastic bag on and wrapped the pot with elastic without any watering and it just recently popped 2 new baby leaves. I’m thrilled and frightened in the same time so I guess I’ll leave it in this condition for a few more weeks to see. Ps. Your plant looks gorgeous !!
