One thing I love about this series is they play with the tropes of the super robot show while not down playing the what they are doing. The whole PR team are heroes and the show goes out of the way to show they are will to do the right thing and help other even when they could get in trouble.
I watched this when it first came out. Good original take on a government Mecha Team and how budget constraints and bureaucracy gets in the way of protecting Japan. Decent anime but the the intro theme tune is the best thing about it
You think that is only government like that? I have a surprise for ya, for multinational corporation. They operate in similar fashion. Hightly bureaucratic process, excess overhead cost, insane amount budget overrun and project delay. At the end, as deadline looming, product get push out with high number outstanding design issues and process control issues. Rolling into high production rate before supply chain is ready. I know it is unbelievable, but that is how crazy the real world is.
Ah, Dai Guard - it was a real fun watch! Reminded me of older Gonzo stuff like Gatekeepers; just bright, pretty funny, and perfectly enjoyable without being _super_ memorable or innovative in any way. Although I will say this; this robot fight included the most dramatic form-signing scene in anime history!
Great parody of the whole giant monster vs. giant robot trope with a good poke in the ribs to how the Japanese government does things, bureaucracies slow everything down!
How to make super robot show grounded in reality (circa i forgot when but oh well) I appreciate that this exists and was already in super robot taisen. Now i wish knights and magic and build fighters and build divers gets into SRT as well
It was technically working well in short bursts, and there WAS the balancer being applied increasingly, but none of the team were prepared to use it all properly on the fly. Having the counter-wheel is an even more realistic approach, but the lack of experience itself backfiring on them is also realistic.
@@Next-xm2dh actually he can dodge and hit in my first run they suck but on the second run i fully upgrade it can dodge and hit someting even against MS unit
@@Next-xm2dh It's a glass cannon type of unit. it does *absurd* damage, but can't take hits very well without using Spirits. It basically needs to be babysat by support-defenders until you can pump up Akagi's evasion stat high enough that he can start *maybe* dodging things once in a while.
Would really love it if this series got a reboot with new visuals. I remember enjoying it when it first came out. Whenever I try to describe this show to someone, I tell them to imagine Evangelion, minus all the psychological bits, and with Jet Alone as the mecha getting all the screentime.

A mecha anime where the budget and politics are a huge pain in the ass. Cool!

To be fair, the opening is an absolute banger.
Kind of reminds me of Shin Godzilla.
The small electric fan in the cockpit is the golden moment of this series. Can’t beat it, it’s too damn awesome.

It's not cool, it's Dai Guard!

Oh man those uniforms are super inspired by Ultraman series science patrol. OH MAN THAT FINAL POSE.
Ikr. So nostalgic.
@@Grunt0066 it's literally Gurren-Lagann at that point.
Should have been in SRW T. The premise fits perfectly with that game.
misora25chan it was in SRW Z I think.
@@OmegaEnvych it was in SRW Z2. You can shit on 00 Mobile Suits with it.
at least it was in Z2 and Z3
Loved to see conversation between salaryman.
super robot turned ...realistic
they don't make anime this good anymore.... =_=
thank god for this ive been trying to remember what this show was called for years

Nah. Not a malfunction, if anything it worked TOO well, the torque on that drill was too powerful.
The drill doesn't have a counter flywheel to counter the massive torque generated
Yea not to mention that it would be burning hot

If only it got a second season
Loved this shooooooow!😭
Ow boy, 20 years.
So a mecha anime that puts the real in real robot? seems like an interesting watch
Robot.exe has stopped working
*Hentai has enter the game*
Damn, those 90 anime gyarus are so pretty...
I like this mecha because i play SRW games series and this mecha are in with it, great mecha and can resupplay fuel too

I did seen Dai-Guard before!
The gold old days
1999 huh? You can see the Evangelion influences in the angel like monster.
You can see the evangelion influence in just about every part of this
Apart from the actual Dai guard itself. Looks like a Gundam.
It's all thanks too Ultraman, Mr. Hideaki Anno is a huge fan of it.
@@gundam5281 Dai Guard actually more close to Kikaioh but without Super Robot power

The office with Giant robots.
It doesn't need reboot. Only weird westerner think everything need reboot.
My high school memories
Reminds me of gurren lagann especially with the drill
Fun fact: A giant drill would have a ludicrous amount of torque and momentum. This is why they usually throw it.
Both this and Gurren Lagann are referencing Getter Robo with the giant drill.
this looks like an off branded kind of anime
Alot of animes from the early 2000s/1999 look a little ugly due to the digital animation transistion, but i wouldn't say its modern hentai level
@@gutsmcgordan4184 not ugly but a little odd looking

Here, I thought of Neon Genesis: Evangelion, when I saw the monster turn its back to us; the viewers.
Weird, eh?
