Almost every lesson has a card game or similar game to practice the lesson. I don't feel like this level has needed as many manipulatives as previous years. But we do still use something rather often.
I love your Do a Lesson with Us videos. Thank you for the comments on how long, on what you do if she needs reinforcement, etc. What do you do if she doesn't want to do the lessons? Any tips on how to boost motivation in the learning experience?
Math is one of the things I get the most push back on, and she usually doesn't even struggle. I have not found a secret remedy for this. Pretty much, I tell her that math is a "must-do" there's no way we can't learn math. A few things I do to help this: 1. I make things hands on as much as I can. Manipulatives, taking questions off the paper and using a white board or mini-writeables. 2. Setting the timer so she sees an end in sight on harder days. 3. Never doing more than one lesson a day. Finishing early is a reward for focusing and applying herself. 4. Dimensions is at most done 4 days a week, the 5th day is a different math worksheet, Life of Fred, or math games. Even with all this, there are still days when she does not want to do math. Hope that helps some? Maybe I'll make a separate video about this topic, I'm certain we aren't alone in this.
We do The Good and The Beautiful and every time you share about Dimensions math I get the urge to try it out. I love TGTB for the spiral method, but also I wish we had some mastery worksheets to add in every once in a while.
I know it can be hard when you see other stuff, but honestly if what you are using works for your family and you feel the math is up to your standards I'd stay with it! Once I did try adding a "fun" workbook but honestly it just became too much because you can't finish everything and I didn't like the feeling of that so we have occasionally used just a fraction workbook this year but for the most part we've stuck with just what is a part of dimensions.
Thank you for sharing!! Are there many manipulatives or games used in these upper levels of Dimensions?
