I totally agree. Every movie he's always playing a tough guy, gangster, thug, etc. But when he plays a gay man he really busts his acting chops. For the first time he plays someone compassionate, charitable, and vulnerable and does an excellent job. This scene is Oscar material!

L1F3 1NVAD3R ving had courage to play this role. Any other actor would have bitched out but ving did it because he didn’t have any prejudice in his heart and wanted to portray something different for once. That’s just my opinion

Industry: Ving playing this role, along with the rape scene from Pulp Fiction are called "humiliation roles" no oscars. Was offered a role in Baby Boy after though.

@@hyperextendedbrooklin3963 no, Emmy is correct for when this movie came out. This was a television film, not a feature film.

Wanda did Holiday wrong. He provided a shelter and a home for her and her daughter and turned around and she let a louse like Silas come and ruin everything. My Grandma always used to tell me when you see trash on the streets, let it stay there. Sometimes people can take your kindness for weakness and Holiday's heart was too big to see it. I thought Ving Rhames performance was phenomenal. In most of his movies he plays a big tough guy good and bad, but to play a crossdresser was awesome. Just like Wesley Snipes did in the movie with Patrick Swayze.

If you enjoy this movie, you may also enjoy "Flawless" that came out a year later with Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Robert DeNiro.
Hoffman plays a sympathetic drag queen in that movie too.

I always loved this movie growing up, even though now I understand the movie more and more & why holiday was the way he is. Even though Ving can act his butt off I just wished he didn’t have to play this role, knowing how dark Hollywood is. May God protect him 🙏🏾🙏🏾
