“ After staring at the shelf that I’d worked so hard on, that I now pretty much hated for another couple of minutes, I fell into a little bit of the woodworkers depression. Which is different than normal depression, and if you do not know how this works. Basically, we take about 40 minutes to fell really sorry for ourselves, and wonder why the things we design and built don’t somehow turn better than we’d imagined in our head, having no one to blame but ourselves. Eventually, we notice something else that needs worked on. So we go focus on that for a few minutes, until a solution basically just presents itself to the original problem.” Thank you for summarizing it so succinctly! And thank you for the awesome content too..
I’ve always enjoyed your content! Woodworkers’ depression is much like what visual artists go through: frustration, anger, self-pity, acceptance, and creative problem solving.
I like the dark glass best. It's the contrast between natural and man-made. And I like being able to see through the glass to see the natural wood under it, too.
I love it. The only thing I would improve on is using the vendor's large milling machine to cut the slot instead of the circular saw. I think the full slot detracts from the finished piece; it would look better if the shelf's slot were only as long as necessary.
That is bothering me so much you don't understand. I'm surprised that wasn't a dealbreaker for him and his usual ocd perfectionism. Thought there was going to be a final solution for that... Also the maple shelf looked the best and most organic imo. Still love Cam's work, this one just wasn't it (for me).
The round shelves lining up with the core of the rings is a beautiful thing. The other shelves don’t add that dimension. I think it’s a lovely piece of furniture.

To me, that maple shelf kind of looks like a massive mushroom shelf, which honestly, kind of fits pretty nicely. I have no idea what sort of home it would actually fit into, but it gave the finished piece a nice natural look that honestly was pretty good looking to me.
Haha "what is it?" I love that you ended with that. The table is a work of art. it's incredible. Love the glass shelves too! But the shelves should be larger - about 8-10 inches larger (in radius) keep up the amazing work. you should listen to Scott more often. 🤣
11:57, funny thing is that the way metric is designed, we immediately know what size it is, despite you trying to use completely wrong unit. If we would do it with inches -> miles you would have no idea.
Scott was 1000000000000% right when he suggested that black/clear epoxy making that one table look like it had crazy cliff edges and fog. Still one of the best epoxy effects you have done, and that was Scotts idea :D
I think the reason the glass looks good is because they follow the flow of the rings better than the squared-off wood shelves do. The live edge shelf also works as a complimentary rustic look. "What is it?" Conversation pit table?
17:08 I like the walnut shelf! It looks like lichen or a big mushroom growing off of a tree. And since it's all burl just call it "the mushroom table" and wait for some fun-guy to buy it 😂
Hey Cam, the biggest circular saw on the market is the Mafell 185 ec which has a 185 mm depth of cut (just over 7 1/4 ")and a 12 inch blade. Nice thing is that it just ride the mafell track you already have for the ks85 saw you have. Love the bandsaw as well, we do timber framing with all of the tools

So we go focus on that for a few minutes, until a solution basically just presents itself to the original problem.”
Thank you for summarizing it so succinctly! And thank you for the awesome content too..
I’ve always enjoyed your content! Woodworkers’ depression is much like what visual artists go through: frustration, anger, self-pity, acceptance, and creative problem solving.
Creations of art are not for all, not for kids, but for understanding people. This table is master piece!
I love how you set the glass semicircle so that it is centred on the central core of the growth rings of the chunk.
i gotta say, this Collaboration between you guys is fantastic. never stop!
VERY NICE. and i think there is an option to use an acrylic plastic sheet instead . thnks
I like the dark glass best. It's the contrast between natural and man-made. And I like being able to see through the glass to see the natural wood under it, too.
I love the frosted glass shelf the best, you could even add lights in the slot to side light the glass, that would look pretty cool.
Frosted glass is best here. I actually hate the black glass with this.
I was hoping for a big free form shelf of clear acrylic-- only suitable in a childfree home..
I love it. The only thing I would improve on is using the vendor's large milling machine to cut the slot instead of the circular saw. I think the full slot detracts from the finished piece; it would look better if the shelf's slot were only as long as necessary.
16:40 The table insert looked like a fungus/ Mushroom growing off a tree trunk....😔
Agree. And that means I didn't hate it.
That's what I thought too. Why did he say wart?
My thought also was a mushroom!
Shelf mushroom or wood ear. Cam, you need to get out and hike more!
Agreed, table looked like the face of a clicker from The Last of Us
cool idea, but it would look a lot better if the notch for the shelf didn't extend wider than the insert.
Was thinking the same
That is bothering me so much you don't understand. I'm surprised that wasn't a dealbreaker for him and his usual ocd perfectionism. Thought there was going to be a final solution for that... Also the maple shelf looked the best and most organic imo. Still love Cam's work, this one just wasn't it (for me).
@@idhatemet00 yeah maple looked the best to me too.
I commented the same thing.
To me, the maple shelf looked like rotting tree fungi-not a look that appeals to me. To each their own, of course 😊.
The round shelves lining up with the core of the rings is a beautiful thing. The other shelves don’t add that dimension. I think it’s a lovely piece of furniture.
I love the contrast with frosted glass! I’m with Scott!! Also/ he needs a raise.
Yes. I recommend Scott gets a 20% raise.... 10% for each of the 2x studs he suggested
Enjoy your sense of humor. Also your creativity is off the charts!
Scott... you were doing good on that raise front until the very end.... then you blew it. LOL
Great video and awesome build!
My 10 y/o daughter said she takes offense to the intro. But we will still continue to watch every video of yours lol keep it up
I liked the black mappa shelf. It looked like it matched the dark of the walnut sides. The finished product looks like a nice coffee table with added features. Great job!!!
32:52…Scott deserves a good 13% raise! ❤
Thank you for the metric system reference. Without it I would never have known how many kilometers 16” is
I like you. You seem like a genuinely good person. Thank you for being honest about not being a trained professional.
This year video's are very well edited. Love your content. The thing really good about you is that there is no music in your video and your voice is also good . Have been watching your video form like 3 years now . This Quality content 🫶🏻
agree whole heartily
Yes! The no music is an enormous plus - and Cam has a lovely voice. His videos are very calming...
To me, that maple shelf kind of looks like a massive mushroom shelf, which honestly, kind of fits pretty nicely. I have no idea what sort of home it would actually fit into, but it gave the finished piece a nice natural look that honestly was pretty good looking to me.
I’ve watched a lot of woodworking videos lately, but this one really stands out. Great job! Mind if I ask what kind of finish you used?
Thanks for your no bullshit commentary, it's always a fun break from the normal delicacy.
Haha "what is it?" I love that you ended with that. The table is a work of art. it's incredible. Love the glass shelves too!
But the shelves should be larger - about 8-10 inches larger (in radius)
keep up the amazing work. you should listen to Scott more often. 🤣
what is that in kilometers?
I really like the maple burl, it looks like a shelf mushroom growing on the table! But I also really love the frosted glass.
11:57, funny thing is that the way metric is designed, we immediately know what size it is, despite you trying to use completely wrong unit.
If we would do it with inches -> miles you would have no idea.
Thought the same thing.
Good one tho.
Scott was 1000000000000% right when he suggested that black/clear epoxy making that one table look like it had crazy cliff edges and fog. Still one of the best epoxy effects you have done, and that was Scotts idea :D
Where's the link to buy the table? How much is it?
I think the reason the glass looks good is because they follow the flow of the rings better than the squared-off wood shelves do. The live edge shelf also works as a complimentary rustic look.
"What is it?" Conversation pit table?
Scott asking the real questions at the end
Cam's face said it all lol
Great video and talk. Loveeeeeee Scott too, the piece is not my taste, but who am I? 🤗😂 The Woadddd is stunning❗️
1. Black glass
2. Clear Glass
3. Maple
Would be interested to see some metal shelves? Brushed Steel?
Could also have them longer, so the notch does not stand out that much.
Oh, I like that idea.
@@izinyosib821 That piece would look much better if not for the cutout at 34:42.
Yeah, it would have been considerably more challenging, but worth it in my opinion (says the guy who doesn’t have to do the work 😅).
Always a great day when I see a Blacktail studio video.
17:08 I like the walnut shelf! It looks like lichen or a big mushroom growing off of a tree. And since it's all burl just call it "the mushroom table" and wait for some fun-guy to buy it 😂
I thought the exact same think. It looks cool and natural.
It is 17.7 inches (45 cm), I think.
Oh wow, I looked it up and it’s over an inch (.0000025km) bigger than mine.
@@BlacktailStudioyes a full inch bigger depth of cut, like just saying, not meant mean, probably you dont need it, but maybe jow want it😊
@@fpgkmyes my bad, conversions...😢
Growing up we had two small tables with about a 16 inch diameter round beveled glass tops. These were free floating with only a center support. There were four children in the family. The tables somehow survived until we all left home. I guess my parents were braver than most.
love the table and love the dynamic you have.
It seems incredibly productive.
I agree that the wood shelves are horrendous, though the dark one might be able to grow on me.
wish there was a bigger glass shelve available.
Scott nailed it when he asked "What is it?" !!!
I laughed so hard
7:10 You missed the registration plates
Maybe find a way of saying this privately? Having a timestamp for all to see is not too bright an idea...
@Grey-The-Skeleton yea everyone who watched the video also noticed it. I'm not going to spend hours trying to reach out to Cam just to have my message lost in the hundreds of messages he gets every day, and if he reads the comments which he does, he can just remove the section I tagged without watching the whole video looking for a spot he missed
21:18 has different plate - smells like trolling :)
Gotta sound those out.
@@BlacktailStudio don't forget about reflections in the car
27.40 Yes mat and shiny finishes just not where I thought they would be but they are exactly where they need to be beautiful beautiful beautiful contrasts
My wife asked if I was certified to drive a forklift... never been so emasculated.
You know you censored the license plate in one shot and then showed it in the very next shot at 7 minutes.
@nevermore0 seems pretty intentional, and he is saying "I'm not going to lie to you guys"... I'm pretty sure that was Cam trolling. I am also guessing the "CRC MSZ" might have a hidden meaning that I am missing
I read it as circumcise
@@rnfall9first guy to get it. It’s a callback to an old joke that upset people.
@@BlacktailStudiothe wife is still making you wear a glove isnt she?😂
Opening monolog.......killed it!!!🤣🤣🤣 Keep up the great work!
11:55 thought you fooled us with metric but we just have to move the decimal 4 times
17:00 Nearly got a heart attack there suddenly seeing a faceless man with glasses
Give him a raise cam! Also great work as always. Love you work / art , absolutely beautiful stuff thanks for explaining things as I watch and learn
As a parent, it's not the safety of the child that prevents me from buying nice furniture, it's that they destroy everything I hold near and dear to me, so I will wait until they move out to get nice things.
Kids dont sound worth the burden
@RedmondJohnson It depends on what you want. If you like freedom, money, the ability to do what you like, when you like, then no, kids probly aren't the way to go.
@RedmondJohnson they're like women - they both are and aren't.
@@Marixa1979unless you have a st ton of money and don't have to work crazy hours. But then you'll be tempted to outsource lots of kid-related stuff and they won't actually be your kids...
