The set comes with a small bottle of smoke fluid, don't run it without the fluid with the smoke turned on, the smoke fluid is also a coolant. The worst that can happen is that the smoke element would burn out and the train won't smoke anymore, but it will still run. Lionel makes smoke fluid, as well as other manufacturers, one has about twenty different scents. I've had trains for years and never burned a smoke element. My favorite scent is Grandpa's pipe, it smells like a pipe. I also like the pine and vanilla scents. You can get them online from hobby shops, or ebay, at your local hobby shop or sometimes at the local train show. Basically if you don't have any smoke fluid, turn the smoke off using the switch under the locomotive. I run trains at work for Christmas, and I turn the smoke off so I don't annoy anybody. I run the smoke on at home.
Just bought this for my 5 year old grandson for Christmas this year. I know he's a little too young but he'll be supervised. If you look at trains for 5 year old, they're battery operated and made of junk. Plus, my first train was an O guage and it was the perfect size for me. A lot easier to put on the track than say an HO gauge. This particular set got great reviews and is extremely durable.. I actually think I'm more excited about it than he will be, lol. I can't wait for Christmas!
Abt 10yrs ago back in 08 when I was 5-6 my parents gave me a Lionel starter set for Christmas. Well 10yrs later I’ve got a fleet of classic Lionel postwar steamers, & some dsls I fix & maintain myself. I’ve gone to train shows, was given stuff, pieces & parts for Christmas/Birthdays. I like trains. I’ve always had some trains, & it’s rly hard to be without any to have around… & to settup one day when it’s nasty out to have some clean no screen time fun. Got most of my stuff from eBay, & some from amazon. Special thanks to my parents for that starter set way back when. Will probably get one for my child in abt 10yrs or so if & when I have a child of my own, & get him a set like my parents once did. I’m 18 now. Almost nearing 12yrs in the hobby!
As a kid i got new bright trains had one with a remote control i loved it but yeah being your grandkid is 5 with a electric train itd probably be best he has supervision because sometimes when you place the train back onto the track if theres power to it it can shoot sparks on the track ive had that deal with mine i bought recently but hope you all enjoy it
This was great. I sent one to my son-in-law for his birthday and felt like I was there when he opened it. Thank you.
Oh yeah he'd love this train. The whistle and smoke is cool. So easy to set up. I had mine going in about 10 minutes top.
I'm buying one this year. thanks for the review

I'm in the process of switching my whole layout to Lioncheif operation because of the Lioncheif operation benefits
Cool. We are running the Lion Chief system for our store train and love it.
@@FundemoniumToys I really don't blame you. The trains are easier to operate that way. That alone makes a Lioncheif set worth its hefty price tag
The Lionchief is great i love it. The option of Bluetooth is so cool.
@@katerinakittycat3849 mine was about $299 I guess. Thats far less than some.
I would suggest clearing the boxes away because the boxes makes me feel that it's so messy. Anyways, good video :)
Thanks for the suggestion. We are always trying to get better.
Really dude thats all you have to say? Who cares about the boxes that's why its called "UNBOXING" .
She did a great job, boxes and all.
They got rid of the transformer and it’s just not the same anymore
😮😲😍🤩💖👍‼️
Omg they have have puns??? Are they purposely trying really hard to ruin their brand?
