I think the subject matter of this album was what made Atlantic Records get cold feet. When the label was put in a position to step out of their comfort zone of pop friendly R&B, Atlantic didn't know how to deal with it. They also treated Malik's labelmate Nicole Renee the same way. The only difference was Nicole's album was actually released.
Probably true. I always wondered why a hot songwriter and producers album would be shelved. He had just had a hit with Mary J Blige and produced for several artists.
@@OmarHudson Most songwriters and producers have projects that are great, but aren't nearly as successful as the people they worked with. As much as Babyface is celebrated for his talents, his music didn't do the same amount of numbers as Toni Braxton or Boyz II Men. Other producers/songwriters who had this problem are: Mario Winans (Pre-Bad Boy) Carole Bayer Sager Raphael Saadiq Mike City Leon Sylvers III (Group and solo efforts) The Gyrlz AKA Terri & Monica

Just finished listening. I like this project. I feel if it came out maybe 4 or 5 years later during the Musiq Soul child, Dwele, Bilal era...it would have done better. A lot of these vocals feel unfinished or maybe he needed a vocal arranger ...his singing comes off amateurish/generic in some places. I also would have trimmed a few songs off the project. That's my only critique. But I like that he didn't just sing "loves songs."
i didn't know he had a unreleased album i thought that one was suppose to be a EP. i'll look out for it. theres a few ppl that i didn't know had any, i'm working on getting one of them now.

This album reminds me of Sunshine Anderson debut he kind of has that vibe.
This guy reminds me some much of kci from jodeci. Very good album.
