  • A review of a WENA Wrist Pro Smart Watch Band imported From Japan. The connected watch strap that turns a standard watch into a smartwatch. Gain some smartwatch functionality while still being able to wear a traditional watch.
The UK version is available to pre-order from Amazon: Wrist Pro: amzn.to/2X6eoJP
    Wrist Active: amzn.to/2SBgwKW
The differences between the Pro and the Active are explained in the video. Links are affiliated.
REUPLOADED after a re-edit to include important information regarding adding Custom Notifications. New section starts at 12:08
If anyone is interested in the Pulsar watch I used - I believe its a discontinued model but there are a few left on Amazon UK (affiliated links) - amzn.to/2Gu13pG (the colour I bought) amzn.to/2SFfyNH (a blue one) and amzn.to/2GvOJW1 (one with a resin strap) - If you were buying one to fit on a Wena Wrist Pro - this last one seems like the best idea as it's the cheapest.

Exactly what I was thinking mate. I had to look that the video wasn't posted on 1st April.
Hand on heart I wouldn't pay £10 for this, it wouldn't be worth it for me, never mind £300. If I want to know I've got a text/message/email - I'll wait for the vibration or beep from my phone, I don't need a watch telling me in very small text. And if I'm paying contact free, I'll take the extra 3 seconds it takes to get my card out of my wallet (or use my phone if that's easier to grab) and save £300.
And balls to wearing the same watch daily as well, unless you're planning on buying multiples of this, do you really want to be changing watch straps over and over? I've got about 40 watches, and half of them wouldn't fit or suit a cheap looking stainless steel strap.
Made for mental people I think, those with too much money and no common sense.

    • @tonyc7879
      @tonyc7879 4 года назад +5

@@notahotshot aww poor you, my heart bleeds.
All of my watches are worth more now than I paid for them, that's called an investment - ie, sense.
Paying £200 for a smart watch strap isn't sense, it's lunacy. I get RUclipsrs buying them, they earn it back in revenue and Patreon, but your average Joe? My point stands, for the average person to buy this they must have more money than sense. Now don't @ me again, there's a good boy. The comments section is for giving your opinion, you don't like mine, tough titties, read past and get a life rather than ensuring I get an email that some salty cretin doesn't like what I say.
P.S, if you don't own a watch, why are you so offended about a post on a video about a watch strap? Or are you one of those unemployed leeches that has nothing better to do? I mean it makes sense then you don't own a watch if you don't have anywhere to be (other than other peoples RUclips comments)

I live in Japan and have seen these things advertised quite a bit online. I guarantee that the target market they were envisaging when they designed this thing is Japanese businessmen who want a smartwatch, but don't want to take one into a meeting due to it seeming "unprofessional".
Why they thought that this would sell overseas I have no idea. Everything about it seems poorly designed, especially in light of the Apple Watch. The localization of the app is very poor too. I guarantee that the original Japanese for "Write" was 「書き込み」or 「設定を書き込む」 (write, or write settings) which makes more sense in Japanese, but really should have been translated as "Save Settings".

Would be a great product if the price was in comparison to a smart watch though, £399 is a fair bit to show two lines of text and rely on your mobile phone with bluetooth constantly active.

Cool idea, and I want one because it would be cool to get a bit if extra functionality out of my watch. But its just too expensive for what it is. Maybe of it were $100-$125.

I'd love to get one, but for like... $100 at the absolute most. It's a great concept, but mother of Christ, that price. When fucking APPLE can sell you a full-fledged watch for cheaper than that...
Then again, geeky 30-somethings like many of us aren't really the target market.

cool idea and great way to put a mechanical watch on a more technological perspective... but it is much easier to just whip out your phone to read a notification rather than squint at the tiny screen

I'll wait to see what gen 2 is like. I have a dying pebble and the only reason I haven't replaced it is there is yet to be another smart watch that lasts a week and all I use my pebble for is notifications and an alarm. The alarm is nice because it only wakes up me no one else.

Have you tried the Amazfit Bip? It seems similar to the pebble in that regard - very very long battery life and not too overloaded with features (I haven't used it but am interested).

I hate smartwatches. I love to wear my old school classic watches, but taking out my phone to see a message is annoying too. This is the best of both worlds. I want one now!

@@zusurs thank you. Where i live depreciation is almost instant. Specially for sony products, i can get this for half the price in 6 months after release. And I'll have a future classic sony product. I hate big lcd displays. Those early 2000s looking oled display reminds me to the old fossil oled from the late 90s. There's always a crazy guy that will buy that and I'm one of those. I love the looks and the non intrusive display that can keep the looks of my casio C701 or my seiko jumbo chronograph from the 70s.
Edit: i also use LED watches from the 70s. They are unreadable on sunny days, so I'm used to low bright displays.

Hello Techmoan! I just loooove your videos (im a chap from France 😉).
I bought 2 months ago a 45€ smartwatch called the Amazfit bip by Xiaomi. It's main perk is a 45 days autonomy!! Color screen and all.
I REALLY afvise you to try it out.

it's made for the watch manufacturers to extend the life of their old models..! No point in buying a smart strap witch is more expensive than a smart watch ! but if u got an expensive swiss watch, a gold Rolex .. then this is just what you need! I want a gold version of weena pls! :)

  • @Oceansteve

interesting product.. I can see a strong market for a smart watch that would work with a non smart expensive chronograph watch. so this would fit the bill.. but with those down sides, I will pause.

i love that there is a smart watch without heart monitor and so on. i would love a smart watch but only as extention of my smart phone. using some functions, as whatch and for messeges and calls but no heart rate and so on. good for wena that they just have that. but the display is a bit small isn't it

If it got cheaper, and if the pro had all the features it'd be more tempting. I like the idea of having a smartwatch with any watchface you want, since I like traditional watches and I quite like my fitbit

Love the idea, I've got a £300 g-shock I would love to put this strap on but balked at the price. Got a tic watch for £160 that does everything the strap does and more. I would probably get one if it came down to the £100 mark but cant see that happening, it is Sony after all.

This is one of those offbeat Sony products, it is an interesting approach but seems way to expensive for what it is. Your asking the same price for the band as you would a smart watch and display. Once again always informative and a well put together video.

The lack of micro-adjustment would probably kill the idea of me ever getting one of these should they launch in the US. They should definitely consider upgrading to screw in pins and adding the micro-adjustments for what you pay for it. I'd never add something like this to one of my dress watches, but I'd love it have it on my Steinhart OT.
