  • Drought conditions across Tennessee have led to a hay shortage, which in turn could cause a cattle shortage.

    Feel for you. We here in Iowa had a drought for last two years with this year being the first time we had a decent hay crop. Had to make a lot of hard choices last year and the year before. Praying for you and the tough choices you have to make.

    Same here in north Mississippi. 3 and 4 cut hay fields only got 2 cuts. Luckily I've been buying from from my hay guy for a long time. Got my order in early. First year I've ever seen farmers letting their house yards grow up and bailing those.
    Edit. Dont forget about how the old timers done it. There's more than one way.

    Yes. Life is a challenge. Good thing cattle prices are at an historic high. Hay prices were good earlier in the year.

    interseed srw wheat in your hay and let them graze wheat as a cover crop. we would of been in a severe shortage if we hadnt done this.

    Here in Southern Illinois I’ve only got one cutting so far. What I get off second cutting won’t be much. September 8th, 2024.
