  • Seani B’s show on BBC 1Xtra celebrates the best music rooted in Jamaica, from Dancehall to Reggae and beyond. This week it’s purely UK, as he takes to Maida Vale for Black History Month to throw a very special dance, Lovers Rock style.
Including performances from the likes of Carroll Thompson, Michael Gordon, Janet Kay and Victor Romero Evans, as well as some very special guest appearances from Terri Walker, Cherri V and Tanika. This programme delves deep into a genre that helped define British black music in the 1970's.
    www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000...
    2:09 - Carroll Thompson & Terri Walker - I'm So Sorry
5:52 - Victor Romero Evans - At The Club
9:06 - Cherri V - Caught You In A Lie (Louisa Marks cover)
    13:20 - Janet Kay & Tanika - Silly Games
    17:25 - Michael Gordon - Baby I'm Yours

I'm African American but I absolutely love the story of my black British brothers and sisters. I am so in love with this music more so knowing the story of how it evolved out of the struggle of our ancestors who went over to Britain for better opportunity but we're met with racism. This music kept the black people together and created a gateway for black British musical talent.

British government went to the ex colonies " inviting people" over to "rebuild the mother country" after second world War only to treat them as second class citizens.. Racism never finishes. Very covert ways it plays out on the Uk

Some of my friemds from Leeds are Lovers Rock Hall of Fame singers and people as young as 44, I woukd say, knkw these as I do, like the back of theor hand.

The soundtrack of a generation when we all had the same story to tell.
This told of a simpler time when we faced REAL struggle for social acceptance, whilst embracing our heritage.
1st generation born here, whilst juggling a 'back home' upbringing against western ideology...
we were unified by the experiences we faced in a hostile environment and trying to be Twice as good as our caucasian counterparts..
Lovers Rock chronicled our journey through this life and time, dealing with Love, Heartbreak, Uprising and Strength.
Its no surprise it has stood the test of time, as it was music created from within our 'Hearts and Soul'.
Our Music, Our Story, Our History, Our Life.....Blessings and Love
