My take on the Halaena scene with the crickets is that “This one stopped singing” might refer to Laenor being dead. Would explain how Seasmoke that day was standing on business and eventually selected Addam same day delivery
I’ve seen the take that the three crickets represent the three unclaimed dragons. It would be a really weird choice from a storytelling perspective to have Laenor just be dead.

@OystersClamsCockles Dragon bonds don't break until one dies, so when Rhanerya comments "Seasmoke has been restless of late", and Mysaria replies "Maybe he's lonely", and the shot of Rhae's face... that seemed like confirmation Laenor had died off screen. If that's the case, it definitely was too subtle because Laenor Truthers are out there.
I figured it was because one of the singing dragon keepers died

I'm now 99% sure he's wrong but here's one tiny chance that Ross's theory is correct: Alys Rivers is real but she's not the woman Daemon has been talking to who is a ghost. It's a The Usual Suspects-American Psycho plot twist haha.

I believe Daemon is turning a corner with this episode. I agree that in the books he just disappears with nobody knowing what he's up to. But we know what he's up to. He's "dying in this place". And he will emerge a new person and get with the program and return to Rhaenyra's side. He's being shown all his faults and when he hugs his brother and tells him he's here for him now, that is a sign that the old Daemon is leaving (dying) and the new one is emerging. This might be a kind of double entendre.

I'm so glad other people see this. So many people complaining about Daemon's arc, but I'm over here pulling my hair out not getting how they don't recognize the hero's journey troupe.
I think the marble was to say “you won’t be needing this for a while” and Daemon has his own marble to bring to the table.
I have a theory that Simon Strong is aware of Alys’ sorcery
Oh yeah, he shoots a disappointed little glance when informing Daemon that Alys "nursed" old Tully and he promptly died. He knows what is going on.

Velaryons have white hair as well! They share blood with the Targaryens going back to Old Valyria, hence the same hair colour. I’m guessing Alyn just got that gene while Addam did not since I doubt the mother was even highborn

My hope for Daemon is that Alys plays the role of the "ghost" of Christmas past. Even tho we know she's not a ghost, of course. But she still plays the same role of helping Daemon see that all his past motivations only hurt those he loves. And he needs to accept his lot and support the loved ones he has left.

Gotta disagree on the Daemon opinion. We FINALLY saw him come to an understanding that it’s really HIS choices that led everyone to where they’re at. I see this as him realizing that if he had just been there for his brother he would’ve had the love and respect from him that he always wanted and in return he would be the uncontested heir/now king. Reflection on his mistakes that have led to his current state. I love it for his character development.

@@OystersClamsCocklesI think damon is seeing all of the people that he loves the most, and how he hurt them. He craved love from his mother the most and because he never got it, he remained closed off, not realising he had others that loved him, his wife, brother and Rhanearya. His dreams made him face how he never acknowledged that he truly did love them, and also fave how he hurt his loved ones.
Stephen has always been on the queens guard. He was also o n Viserys's kings guard. He went to Dragonstone when Rhaenyra left King's Landing with Leanor. Later Daenon made him kneel to Rhaenyra after Viserys died. At all times he wore the sane kings guard armor.
Both Stephen and Alddam were hesitant about riding the dragon. Allyn even ran through the woods to get away from Seasnoke. Approaching the dragon with confidence isn't a factor. The dragons choose to allow riders for their own personal reasons.
Something different did happen with Daemon this episode. This time he doesn't run away as he always did. He also asked for help and acknowledged his weakened position. He showed that all of the dreams and visions have finally provided him with the growth he needs to support Rhaenyra and his house. If this had happened in one or three episodes the struggle wouldn't be a believable amount of time to work that shit out.
I’ve definitely been operating under the assumption that Velaryons and Targaryens both have white hair because they’re both old Valyrian families. They’re probably distant relatives of the same family right?

This definitely, but Valeryons and Targaryens have been marrying eachother for a couple hundred years at this point, since they're some of the only families of Old Valeryia left.
@@achohelelwhy no doubt. 👍 I do feel that both shows haven't explained the Old Valyria/Dragon connection very well. Anyone with blood ties to Old Valyria can become a dragon rider. The reason Corlis didn't is because his family just prefers the seas.

My take on Aemond giving Aegon the marble is that was his way of letting Aegon know that he’s in charge now. I took it as a power move.
I think that's the correct read. "Here's your marble. Your spot has been taken."
In GoT, we hear of a riverland host get smashed at the Golden Tooth by the Lannister army in season 1 as the war begins. From the Golden Tooth the Lannisters have a clear path to the Riverlands.
Just thought of this but given how quick Rhaenyra takes off to go see who’s riding Seasmoke does anyone think it’s possible that she initially thinks that it’s Laenor and not a new rider ???

Yeah Laenor is dead for real this time. It’s the only way Addam was able to claim Seasmoke. I get the feeling this is gonna become another “all Targaryens are fireproof” thing though because the show didn’t explain how dragon bonds work.

The book this show is based on explores whether you need Valyrian blood to ride a dragon or not, and it seems the show will raise this question as well. The Velaryons and Targs have inbred so much even until Corlys's own birth that they all pretty much have the same blood at this point. Addam and Alyns mum does not need to be a Targaryen for them to ride dragons.
Oh brother it's going to get confusing. Wonder if Corlys ever tried to ride?

Prediction, I don't think the trio of Criston Cole, Daemon, and Aemond make it to season 3. I think Cole being sent out to battle again could lead to the Ross szn 1 prediction of Daemon ending him..or ser Gwayne if the writers wanna mess with us.

Regarding the hair color difference between Adam and Allen Corus is their dad.But it could be that Allen took on his dad's hair color and his brother took on his mom's hair color happens all the time. Also, Rhaenrays' first set of kids have dark hair, taking after their father. It's all about the blood, not the hair. The hair just denotes purity in the blood line.

I think you both might have called death on Ross's theory too early. What I got from that scene is that; Yes, Alys Rivers is real but she wasn't wandering in Harrenhal because she was tending to the old fellow somewhere else in the Riverlands. So either Alys is a witch and her ghost can be in another place at the same time. Or the ghost claims to be Alys Rivers but is someone else completely. Or I'm just completely wrong ofcourse :)

Both Seasmoke scenes were funnier than they should've been.
I think the pet crickets in gold cages represents her family. The pet cricket that stopped singing, is Aegon who is alive but not "talking".
I don't think Aegon overcomes his tragedy, and miraculously becomes a better man, I think he doesn't survive and remains caged until he dies.
Velaryons totally have the white hair. Don’t forget Corlys’ brother. “Gay-cation” and “KI-SS-ING” 😆🤣 Hilarious episode 😆 oh! I think the Old Town thing is because of ole Beesbury. The old dude that was loyal to VisyT and was like this is treason when they decided to install Aegon and they bashed his head into the table during small council…him… that guy… and his house is pissed and going after Old Town if I understand right. I think they mentioned it after Aemond has his tantrum earlier in the episode.

Rhaenys is an only child so Corlys’ sons are not Targaryens lol. Alyn and Addam are baseborn bastards and their Valyrian blood comes directly from Corlys. A lot of characters have Valyrian blood but don’t have the classic Valyrian features-blond hair, purple eyes. Rhaenys has black hair in the book. Jace, Luke, and Joffrey all have brown hair. Jon Snow has brown hair. A character not looking Valyrian is no indication of their bloodline; dark hair is just dominant to blond when it comes to Valyrians intermixing with everyone else.
Also, Laenor is dead which is why Addam could claim Seasmoke. Dragons can only have one rider at a time and won’t accept a new rider until their old one dies. I really wish the show would establish the lore better so everyone is on the same page. All this hair color and dragon bonding stuff is going to turn into another “Targs are fireproof” thing-also false-because the show doesn’t explain the lore.
Yarp. And then there are the Noble Houses who have Valyrian features but are not Valyrian. Dayne and HighTowers... But that's too much a deep dive for show watchers. I'd imagine this can be painfully confusing for the uninitiated.
Important to keep in mind that GRRM has established there is book lore and then there is show lore. They won't always be the same thing.

Show canon is he faked his death. ASOIAF lore is that dragons can only bond with one rider at a time. At no point has the lore changed, the writers just didn’t bother to explain it.

Whichever one of you guys(I listen to the podcast) hadn't noticed that Corlis has white hair must be high whenever he watches an episode. Amond was hurting his brother by pressing that marble into his wound. Ranira had to have had sexual thoughts about Allicent to have dove right in like that. I'm a straight woman and no amount of time hugging a woman would arouse me. If Ranira slaps people more often, they'll be less likely to enter her chambers without knocking.

The kiss between Mysaria and Rhaenyra was so random. It being unscripted makes sense. I just don’t see wanting to make out with someone after sharing my most horrible trauma, especially someone I just met, like, two weeks ago. I also definitely didn’t bet on Rhaenyra being the unfaithful one out of her and Daemon.

I got chewed out in my comments for my opinion that Daemons development is lacking, people saying I have no media literacy or concept of storytelling, that all we want is dragon battles, blood, and sex. That couldn’t be further from the truth. I love the slower more conversational, classic game of thrones episodes. But every other character is getting more development than him. And what they ARE showing us does nothing to explain WHY he went from backing Rhaenyras claim to the point of beheading people who besmirch her, to crowning her, to now claiming he is the king and she can “join him if he wants.” And now the visions are just supposed to give him some sort of revelation that he now backs her again and he’s going to go home super content? People say “reliving his trauma is what he needed to come to terms that Rhaenyra is the one who should rule.” As if that is all the explanation we need. Idk it better be worth it in the end
That being said everything else about the episode was 10/10
Your point is valid. I'm a book purist who has read all of George's work. They are dragging this out and we kind of have to get to war for this show to work in four seasons without cutting a lot of bloodshed. All points are valid, but yours is correct.
They can't recreate the slower moments of early thrones because they don't have George's dialogue. But they are doing a better job than D&D.
That being said, I love character work... But I'm supposed to be watching a civil war. Just to match the pace of the source material, there should be a battle every other episode. This isn't an outcry for violence, but this is what this story is and why it was chosen to be portrayed.

I got told I must not have seen GOT if I am criticizing this pacing… (I’ve seen it at least 5 times all the way through and twice all the way to season 8.) makes no sense 😂
@@shaylaortega7647 It seems like everyone kind of forgot that there was a writers strike while this season was in development. Even George went on strike in solidarity and didn't work on this as much. It shows. They made a lot of moving plates work a lot better in season 1 with the proper staff. They portrayed so many years and so much buildup in a way I didn't think was possible. Just to kind of blow it by turning the heat down to three this season.
I will say that even with those problems, it's still a beautiful piece of work. But it could be better and the people saying otherwise are welcome to their opinion (even though it is wrong lol), but they are not allowed to chew someone out for having theirs.
I do believe they will successfully wrap things up and pull the boat into harbor in the last two episodes, but it could have been better. It's still the best thing on TV, but it could be an absolute masterpiece.

The Daemon storyline is dragging this show down. Is Daemon so stupid now that he thinks Simon Strong is poisoning him and doesn’t suspect the witchy woman giving him drinks? And has ANY reason been given as to why he even listens to Alyce at all? His character was WAY better in season 1. I’ll be happy when Otto is back because he’s one of the better characters. Good to see Rheanyra take matters in her own hands to check what’s happening with Seasmoke.
My guess is Daemon is very stubborn and doesn't want to accept that a woman has enough power over him to haunt him with something such as ghosts

HOTD is a snooze fest so far.. chocker block with filler, devoid of any real substance and any action is few and far between. Much like Game of Thrones.. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement.

Little note here, I listened to the writer interview in the official podcast, and she commented on the kissing scene to say Emma D'Arcy improvised the "how" it happened, like, the way Rhaenyra approached Mysaria sort of running to hug her, but the fact that they were going to kiss was definitely in the script beforehand according to this writer.
