  • Eastern Freeway, Mumbai (17 km signal free freeway) is the 2nd largest flyover in the country.. the largest being the one that connects Hyderabad airport to that city. The 4-lane, toll free Eastern Freeway connects Fort in South Mumbai to the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) at Ghatkopar. The freeway will decongest Suman Nagar, Sion, Dadar, Byculla and P D'Mello Road as it will offer a parallel signal-free and pothole-free 20 minute journey. The Freeway is divided in three parts .. (a) the 9.29-km elevated road (b) the 4.3-km road-tunnel-flyover and (c) an elevated 2.5-km flyover from Panjarpol till the Mankhurd-Ghatkopar Link Road (MGLR) via Govandi. The entry point from chembur is at Panjarpol near R K Studios. Thane traffic can join once the Mankhurd-Ghatkopar Link Road (MGLR) via Govandi bridge connects chembur by year end. Special BEST buses C-8 between Mantralaya and Shivaji Nagar, and C-50 between World Trade Centre and Vashi bus depot will run on this expressway soon.

      Sabarish Selvarajan same here. But people are more likely to follow lanes if roads are wide and markings are clear.

    The Eastern Freeway has once again drawn attention to the development potential of the eastern waterfront. There’s enough land to accommodate universities, development and research centers, low-cost housing and create open spaces such as gardens and parks like in New York, London..etc. It’s easy to imagine transforming the godowns into arts centres, performance venues and galleries.

    I love your video and want to see more of india's newly built freeways from a dashboard camera ( like this ) . There are lot many videos of US and European cities and highways but few Indian ones showing a proud resurgent India . We have came a long way through after independence and despite all the flaws our system has , our cities have a unique soul and character . With upcoming super talls , shopping centres , and general urban development , modern Mumbai has started to get in shape .

    Hi Zaid.. Other countries have a superior mechanism to regulate road safety and second im sure you will agree that people are far civilised.. In India, we all reckless drivers who flout the speed limit rule the road. Most of us dangerously overtake at high speed limit and have no concept of lane driving.. This is the major worry for traffic authorities.. that's why speed limit on most of our expressways are below what we see in other emerging countries..

    ya Vilas almost 9 kilometres of the freeway runs through Mumbai Port Trust land. Vilas more than the BOARD its is important that the Mumbai Port Trust shouldn't sell larger part of the land mass to builders who see it as the last exploitable land bank in the city after central mumbai mills. i am sure you know what mess it is in Central Mumbai.. it could have been an oasis of open space, theme parks for general public and low-cost housing, instead it became a crowded mess of glass and concrete.

    Wow smooth ride. I didn't see any shoulders or safety bays on the freeway. If there is an accident, it's going to cause massive jam. Also there seems to be open spaces on the left - i think mostly BPT land. Should have used the opportunity to make it 3-4 lanes. Do you know what's happening to the old BPT road...wasn't that supposed to be put into use as well for everybody ?

    Good video and very good steady driving. However keep the right lane for overtaking only. Very good road for Indian Standards and good signboarding. Very good adherance to lanes by the drivers. And this is the reason why they should NOT allow bikes, 3 wheelers and trucks.
    However the jam at the end of the Freeway causes you to lose all the time you gained on the freeway.

      @riabenson4716 8 лет назад +1

      +EASYTIGER10 They don't have a choice. No one builds pedestrian under or over bridges for them. This is utterly ridiculous. I was so disturbed when I used to watch office goers and school children run for their life across highways in the Indian city I lived mostly in, Bangalore. Other Indian cities are no different. You will find pedestrian crosses at the most irrelevant places in the cities and none where there is a genuine need. Even at most of the city junctions, the signal changes abruptly for vehicular traffic from red to green, without any provision for pedestrians at all. I really hope these builders and especially the Government Departments use their brain. One doesn't need a lot of money to design these things, one just needs a little bit of thought and common sense,

    They must allow bikes and trucks (except during rush hours) on the freeway because bikes can perform the same as cars with maximum fuel economy. And there are many countries in the world which allows bikes to drive on freeway including Germany's autobahn which has no speed limit on many stretches.

    There are rude comments about Indian driving habits here.
    Let me share a few things from my experience in driving in India and in Canada where I now live?
    Insurance rates in Canada are very very STEEP ..you can easily buy a good 2 or 3 year old car in Canada for under $15,000..but a neophyte driver might have to shell out more than $2000 /year for his driving insurance..and since these premiums are linked to your driving record,a" your fault" driving record might cost you very steep.
    People generally are very aware about risks due to injury in a motor vehicle accident and are very cautious about risking their life or limb and one sees none of the adrenaline drive macho posturing that you see in India...
    Over a period of several decades,due to poor regulations and a scant disregard for personal safety or for safety of others using the roads,Indians have been conditioned into very bad habits ...and one can see accidents that are just follies and downright stupidity.
    I hope that things change for the better and the high death toll in India resulting from flawed driving habits,lackadaisical enforcement and no financial disincentives from bad driving ..ALL come down to saner levels??:):):)

      ***** .. First a person can't show ignorance for expressing an Opinion, else you and anyone else in this world would be equally ignorant. Ignorance is when someone has a lack of knowledge an a particular subject which I clearly am not doing in my above comment,. second, deer hits as you say it, are not all that common on American freeways...They are more common on the rural roads in unpopulated area, I am sure in India they have deer as well. and as far as "BAD" weather I think both of our countries have bad whether and I am sure India is more susceptible to heavier rains then most parts of America... Getting back to my point, I merely stated facts based on what I saw in the video, that you guys have people walking on your freeways and the speed limit is 45 to 50MPH which by the general definition of a freeway is not considered a freeway...Possibly an expressway...Not sure if in India the terms Freeway and Expressway are used or if there is other terms that are used to distinguish the difference between a freeway and an expressway. More importantly having people walking on the freeways--Like in this case and comparing that to deer crossing the road is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard...

    • @Xygdl
      @Xygdl 9 лет назад

      +Tera Bera I understand your point, however, you cannot expect THE WHOLE WORLD to adapt to US standards. Every country is different and just because things are a certain way in your country, doesn't mean that it has to be that way everywhere. But it is typical of Americans to think that they're always right, and the rest of the world is wrong.

    • @reallyjustrandom1230
      @reallyjustrandom1230 9 лет назад +1

      +Antonio Cruz I m sorry you took such offense to what I said, very typical of of people who don't understand the English Language. Where do I imply that American are always right and the rest of the world is wrong? If you understood my point then you certainty would not have made such an ignorant statement.

    • @Xygdl
      @Xygdl 9 лет назад

      +Tera Bera I probably overreacted, my bad. I guess my point is, why does everything has to be "Americanized"? You begin by criticizing the speed of 45 to 50; you mentioned - and I quote - " Is there any American Type freeway in India...", I say: why would there be one? It's India; and then you mention the standards for an American freeway, again, why the comparison with your standards? Don't get me wrong, I love your country and its people, believe me, I praise a lot of things about Americans, you guys have made a great country, but nobody's perfect, and Americans sometimes are a little too arrogant.
