I had the guy show me how it worked during our walk through. I was afraid the entire window would fall out if I opened it. :) Then when I leaned out and looked how far up I am from the ground, I have to calculate the risk of running through whatever the emergency is before jumping from that window, knowing something is going to break when I land. We also put extra fire extinguishers in the bedroom and near the fuse panels. Thanks for the video!
Hi Sheri, Thanks for the tips about adding extra fire extinguishers. Please know that running through a real fire is not like what you see on TV. You will burn even being close to a fire. THANK YOU for making this video. We had our camper for 2 years (3 summers) and never opened the emergency window. Getting it ready for winter , I was lubricating the window tracks and wondering about the emergency exit window. I could not get it opened!! Watched your video went back and checked for packing clips( no clips). Got forceful with it and it finally opened. It was just stuck. Cleaned the track lubricated the seals and it wotks perfectly now. I thought to my self, what a panic mode we would have been in during an emergency! THANK YOU!. God bless and safe travels. Dan P.
Wow what a great video! We too, purchased used and had the same issue, the packing clips, when we're tested it last month. Once we removed those we were able to open it right up. Thank you for bringing a great topic into awareness. Love the magazine too!

Mike, very good points in your Emergency Exit Window video. 3 years ago we purchased a new 2021 Jayco SLX 17 ft travel trailer. We have used it many times and have opened all the other windows but never the Exit window. I had quickly tried on occasion and it never opened. So I incorrectly assumed it was a 'one-time' use window to be forcefully kicked open in case of emergency. However, one rainy day we were waiting inside and I wondered why Jayco would supply a window screen for a 'one-time only' window. So I unlatched it and had to push like crazy from several different angles and it finally popped open. Turns out that the window seals must have stuck to the pane unusually well ( great seal, Jayco) when originally installed. Once I had it open I rubbed Vasoline along the rubber seals to avoid sticking. Works great now.
Great video and great point! - I open mine regularly for ventilation - It is the type with the latching push-rod (shown in one of your photos). Luckily I have never had to use it - it is across from one of my doors, so I'd be more apt to use a door at either end of the RV.
Thank you so much! Glad you found the video valuable. Great job multi-purposing your window for ventilation. Let's hope you never have to make that decision! 😉 Thank you for watching our RV Emergency Window video and commenting.

Hi Mike The exit window over the bed looks much easier to than exit windows over a chest of drawers on the side of a 5th wheel. What's your suggestion on exiting the later situation ? I think that a large person would have a problem.

Good Video: Except you should explain that sliding out on your Stomach and Dropping to the ground is the preferred method. But, you should also toss a blanket over the bottom of the window to prevent injuring yourself on the metal Frame! A Fire in an RV can take only a few minutes to totally destroy the RV! That is why it also EXTREMELY important you check your smoke alarms and LP gas detector frequently!

Funny how your video popped up. Our 5th Wheel had an Emergency Window that was installed in the Rear Window, behind the ROOF Ladder! No one could have escaped through that window. A recall replaced the Window to the side Window as an Emergency Escape window. We also carry and Emergency Ladder in our 5th Wheel, to escape out the Bedroom window, since it is quite a Drop to the ground. Safety is NOT an Accident, especially with RV's!
@@OnlyDrones I often wonder what makes a video pop up in someone’s feed! I agree about the ladder for outside. There can be a pretty big drop to the ground! Always have to be planning ahead. Thank you!
I don’t think there is any way to test mine. It is a 1995 motorhome with no levers or instructions. I think you are just supposed to kick it out but not sure.
Hi Fern, Sometimes the stickers that say EMERGENCY EXIT fall off over time. The emergency exit window should have red latches to help identify it and I would guess the back or side window over your bed is an emergency window. If not - I would call Coachmen and inquire about it. You might just have to have one installed to be on the safe side. Let me know if you figure it out or if there is no exit window... Thanks so much for doing this video....so many have never practiced using it. I fastened a small bathroom carpet onto the countertop that can be rolled out the window to protect from the sharp edge of the frame while exiting. I also added struts to the window to keep it fully open. And I removed the valance to increase the useable space for exiting. Darn packing clips were preventing my window from opening too!!

Thanks. We had this problem the other day. The deadbolt on our Class A decided to crap out with us in the rug. Try as we might, we could t get it opened. I tried to open the bedroom emergency exit and couldn’t do it. Must admit that I was afraid the glass would fall out. I ended up climbing out of the drivers’ window, which isn’t really an emergency e it at all. It dawned on me that I would be in deep you know what had it been an actual emergency. After watching your video, I figured it out and we’re in good shape now. Thanks!!

The plastic clips were just fitted around the window frame, easy to pop off. We are guessing the previous owner's or dealership didn't remove them. Luckily we tried opening it one day and were shocked. That's what made us decide to make this video. Don't want anyone ever caught off guard. Hi.. I have the same type window with the screen over the dresser... Test#1 I'm too fat! Now I have a screen I can't seem to figure out how to reattach! Plus it has a valance around it so I can't see how it connects on top... And yes I use the window for ventilation.. any hints on how to do it would be great... PS manual doesn't cover this... Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this. We were afraid to open the emergency window in fear it wouldn't close right again with being resealed or something. Now we will practice and be ready for emergency escape. Thanks!

If you have a fifth wheel and are in the bedroom and cannot get to the front door to exit it have a folding chain ladder to exit from the bedroom window. I have one because the bedroom area in the fifth wheel is very high and it may be difficult or impossible for some people to jump down. I suggest to practice using it so you are knowledgeable on how to use it in the event on an emergency.
That is a great point about high exit windows. Need to be comfortable getting and landing. Thank you for watching our emergency exit window video and commenting.

Never open it before but we're looking to see if we can put an air conditioner in it. trying that today!!!
there's also an escape hatch door which is lower so it's probably what I would use if I had to so I'm not eliminating the only exit :-)
Hey HTGOOB
How'd it go?!

Hi Larry,
Thanks for sharing your tips!!! Great info!
Those packing clips will definitely slow you down!

Thanks!!
I'm so glad you figured it out before it was a dangerous emergency!! And glad we were able to help! Thanks for watching and commenting D Mills!
Thank you so much. It was hard to open because I am sure it had never been opened in the past. Now I know how it works.
I'm so glad you found this video helpful!!! We really felt it was important to share this subject. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I opened mine to far on my Montana 5th wheeler 2016 and now it is stuck open at 90 degrees. And suggestions to close it?
Hey Mafia Slots,
YIKES!! Have you looked at the manufacturer's website / manual / anything else? Like it LOCKED, or like it got STUCK? Good luck!!!

We got the emergency window open, screen first. Can’t get screen back on. It is a 1850 Coleman lite. Any suggestions. We have tried every which way. There are metal clips Frustrated!

Mike
maybe a stupid question, but how do you remove the clips?
The plastic clips were just fitted around the window frame, easy to pop off. We are guessing the previous owner's or dealership didn't remove them. Luckily we tried opening it one day and were shocked. That's what made us decide to make this video. Don't want anyone ever caught off guard. Thank you for watching our Emergency Exit video and commenting!
My window came off the hinge and how do I get it back on the hinge
Are you unable to reconnect the window to the hinge? You might have to reachout to the manufacturer or a Facebook group of RV owners for the type of RV you have. Sorry for this inconvenience. Thank you for watching our Emergency Exit video and commenting.
What’s the size of the window
Hey Tammie,
We recommend checking out the manufacturer's website for anything we didn't cover in the video to assure you get the most accurate info :)

One of the most important tips ever 👍
That's definitely an important reminder. We have the kind with the middle bottom lever which we can just open for airflow also, and has a screen that would also have to be removed. So we've definitely practiced and have taught our kids as well!
Hey Skeltons!!!
Glad you liked the video and practiced with your emergency window too!!!

Thanks!
demonstrate jumping out the window for us in this video
🤭That actually would've made a great blooper reel! 🤣 Thank you for watching our RV emergency exit video and commenting. We appreciate your support!
Thanks for sharing this. We were afraid to open the emergency window in fear it wouldn't close right again with being resealed or something. Now we will practice and be ready for emergency escape. Thanks!

That is a fair assumption! So glad to hear y'all will be practicing your emergency exit now though!

Glad we could be helpful. Thanks for watching and safe travels!

Thanks, I didn’t know that they swing out. I always thought they would fall off. I will check mine. 👍

Thank you for your video.
What would you do if it was a Fifth Wheel, the escape Window is pretty high off the ground ?
(bedroom is in the front)
(Rope ladder for older people) ?
Thank you
That is a great question! We had a collapsible ladder for my children when they were little. You could hang it from the window sill. I think that could be a possible option. Thank you for bringing that to light! And thanks for watching our Emergency Exit video and commenting.
@@RVBlogger Thank you. 👌🙏
Mike, We have a 2012 Coachmen Prism Class C, 25 ft. with no emergency exit at all that we can see. We are the 2nd owners. There is no information in the manual. Have you ever heard of this and what would you suggest. Thanks
Hi Roland,
Sometimes the stickers that say EMERGENCY EXIT fall off over time. The emergency exit window should have red latches to help identify it and I would guess the back or side window over your bed is an emergency window. If not - I would call Coachmen and inquire about it. You might just have to have one installed to be on the safe side. Let me know if you figure it out or if there is no exit window...

@@rreuss9277 Looks like you may want to contact Coachmen and possibly consider having an emergency exit window installed...
