I was too young to remember Sale of the Century. Glenn Ridge mentioned that this episode will be the final show for 2001 because there's a Test match between NZ and AUstralia at the WACA. I wanted Sale of the Century to come back in 2002, However. Nine decided to screen a new game show, Shafted in the first half of 2002. Sadly, the ratings have suffered and was replaced by reruns of Frasier. Three years later, the show returned in 2005 with a complete overhaul of the program, Temptation: The New Sale of the Century. The 2005 show had new hosts, a new set, a new font. However, there was no warm-up voiceover.
0:17 Pete Smith: Pure excellence, Sheer determination, Incredible Endurance, A celebration of minds and all they mastered put to the ultimate test. Tonight the Quest to find the true champion reaches It’s Climax as we present the Finals of the Masters on Sale Of The Century! Now Ladies And Gentlemen please welcome Glenn Ridge!
Well initially Sale wasn't supposed to be rested at the end of that year, they were supposed to be on a hiatus for the first half of the following year and return with new hosts. Shafted was supposed to run for 6 months but the ratings quickly declined, and was replaced with reruns of Fraser and sales return was left on the back burner for another 3 years . The show returned in 2005 as Temptation the first was badges as Temptation: The New Sale Of The Century.
No joke, before they revealed the price of that laptop I decided to guess what it would be for fun and guessed $2,599 and was shocked that I was right.
I wonder if Glenn, Karina and Pete knew that the show was numbered as they recorded this episode, because apart from a few comments that could be interpreted as them knowing (Karina's "Maybe we'll give the Cashcard away next year?") I imagine that someone watching in November 2001, wouldn't have guessed that this would be the last time the Sale format would be used for 3 1/2 years.

the original plan was that Shafted would air for 6 months then Sale Of The Century would come back with new hosts, a new set, a new format a massive revamp however Shafted ended up flopping in the ratings big time and got negative reviews from fans and critics and was replaced by Frasier however Fraser got very strong ratings that the Sale Of The Century revamp was delayed and wouldn’t come back until 2005 as Temptation.
Interesting that this tournament only lasted 4 episodes and ended on a Thursday... Could of had a two-day final like those celebrity specials for the Friday. Final episode airdate lines up with Wikipedia though.
Unfortunately, I never even saw SOTC after 1999, because I lived in country New South Wales, and Sale was on at 5:30 there, and in 2000, they decided to replace it with something else
I think they replaced it with something called "Extra", and moved Catch Phrase to 5:30. I wasn't really into Catch Phrase, and I enjoyed Wheel of Fortune much more
@@MrShieldsy100 They did that here in regional Queensland to, after 1999 they did'nt show Sale anymore, They ran repeats of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and then Catch Phrase.
This was also aired on the day George Harrison passed away

I forgot that Karina Brown ended as co-host

Maria reminds me of Margaret Meldrew, and David that bloke in American Psychopath.

That's a pity, I don't think they knew this was going to be their last episode ever.
