Die casting molds are very similar to plastic molds. But the aluminum is much more damaging than plastic when it comes to die performance and durability. Imagine designing a plastics mold that you can mold a engine block or cylinder head. All the moving cores and ejector pins. Now make the mold out of all h13 tool steel and make it extra heavy duty because it's going to be beat to failure. Good luck.
