Wow 60 years that is great! I'm sure you have watched a lot change. Yeah weather can be a bit extreme here in the summer. I would say this summer was pretty brutal compared to last summer being more enjoyable.
Redding's scores on Walk Score: Walk Score: 27/100 "Most errands require a car.", according to the website. Transit Score: 19/100, "Redding has minimal transit." Bike Score: 42/100, "Minimal bike infrastructure." In short, don't fall for this realtor's sale-influenced BS. If you are looking into Upper NorCal for a car-free lifestyle, try Chico instead, or if you can do the North Coast, then Arcata, Eureka or Ukiah. Otherwise, just hightail it south to Sac. or further up north to most big cities in Oregon+Washington.
I’m not sure if you currently live in Redding or where you reside, but with the growth of downtown and significant improvements like the bike share, new walking trails, and electric scooters throughout, it’s becoming a great place to have transport options available more readily. The addition of the public market to downtown Redding will be a great bonus as well.
"You can live here car-free... let me tell you about our private airport and the parking in our public airport" I'd want to hear: how much of the city is in a 10 minute walk of a supermarket, and are the walks safe and attractive? Ditto for elementary schools. How frequent are the buses and how late do they run? Are the bikes primarily recreational, or oriented toward safe biking across the city? Would you let your 10 year old bike to school or a friend's house?
I would worry about the ten year old going on a bike ride even with you in certain places. Homelessness is off the charts in California period. The bike trails frequently become a transit system for the homeless. If you are more away from the city center you can have a recreational bike ride. Simple Redding requires a car for most people. My guess is if this realtor is going on bike ride, her husband is with her. As a 6’4” male I wouldn’t ride after dark by myself.
Born and lived in Redding area for 60yrs , you definitely need a motor vehicle. Weather can get extreme. This isn't Florida.

We do have people migrate in and out of Redding but we do have a lot of SoCal & Bay Area move up
Been to Redding and got a lot of stares when I sat down in the Red Lobster.
Unfortunately Red Lobster is now closed!
